STEREOSELECTIVE REACTIONS OF CHIRAL AMINES WITH RACEMIC CHLOROPHOSPHINES

Racemic chlorophosphines react stereoselectively with chiral l-phenylethylamines or amino acid esters to give diastereomerically enriched aminophosphines 3, which were isolated as diastereomerically pure crystalline borane complexes. Oxidation, thionation, the reaction with methyl iodide provide optically active derivatives of aminophosphines. (R,S)- and (S,S)-stereomers of phosphinic acid amides were separated by crystallization and a flash-chromatography. The stereochemical properties of phosphorus acid amides were investigated. The mechanism of asymmetric induction at the trivalent phosphorus atom was rationalized.     

Diasteroselective Addition of Monoand Bis-Silylphosphines to Chiral Aldehydes

Abstract

The addition of silylphosphines to chiral aldehydes proceeds with high diastereoselectivity to give optically pure tertiary α -trimethylsiloxyalkylphosphines. The diastereomeric excesses of the addition products were achieved to 90–100%. The reaction of bis(trimethylsilyl)phenylphosphine with the acetonide of (R)-glyceraldehyde provides diastereomerically enriched tertiary bis(glyceryl)phosphines.     

New and Practical Synthesis of Montelukast Sodium,an Antiasthmatic Drug

Abstract

A new and practical synthesis of montelukast sodium, an antiasthmatic drug, is described. The key steps are the synthesis of nitrile derivative 4 by chiral reduction of keto ester 9 using (?)-DIP-Cl, synthesis of vinylquinoline framework 16 by Wittig reaction, and Heck coupling of nitrile 4 with vinylquinoline 16. The method is operationally simple and suitable for the industrial production of the drug substance.

Intramolecular Ketone-Olefin Radical Cyclization with Low-Valent Titanium Reagent: Synthesis of Benzopyrans

A novel protocol for intramolecular ketyl-olefin radical cyclization with low-valent titanium reagent is outlined. It allows the formation of the benzopyran nucleus from ortho-allyloxy propiophenones as the sole product in moderate yields via intramolecular radical cyclization.     

Synthesis of Novel Chiral Ionic Liquid and Its Application in Reduction of Prochiral Ketones to the Corresponding Chiral Alcohols Using NaBH4

A novel chiral ionic liquid (CIL) based on nicotinium salt has been synthesized and used as an efficient asymmetric chiral catalyst for reduction of acetophenone derivatives with NaBH₄ in methanol at room temperature. The optically active alcohols were obtained in low to moderate enantiomeric excess in a short reaction time.     

Efficient Synthesis of the Cyanofluoromethylated Ketones: Michael Reaction of the Cyanofluoromethyl Anion Species to Unsaturated Ketones

Abstract

Synthesis of cyanofluoromethylated ketones is discussed. The Michael addition of α‐cyano‐α‐fluoromethyl anion species to α,β‐unsaturated ketones is investigated.     

Radical Cyclization Route to the Stereoselective Synthesis of (+)‐trans‐Cognac Lactone and (+)‐trans‐Aerangis Lactone

Stereoselective total synthesis of two chiral lactones, (+)‐trans‐cognac lactone (1b) and (+)‐trans‐aerangis lactone (2c), has been achieved from the same intermediate using a radical‐based cyclization route.     

Numerical analysis of nematic liquid crystal alignment on asymmetric surface grating structures

The influence of an asymmetric periodic grooved cell surface on the 2D static director configuration of a nematic liquid crystal has been investigated. The minimum in the Frank-Oseen free energy was solved numerically with the Rapini-Papoular form of the surface anchoring energy at the nematic-grating interface. Results are presented for the variation of pretilt angle in the tilted bulk director field as a function of the surface groove depth, pitch and asymmetry and the bulk parameters. The simulations demonstrate the existence of two energetically degenerate high and low pretilted bulk alignment configurations. The pretilt values in these two regimes and also for the low tilt regime with finite surface anchoring are consistent with experimental results. An effective increase in the resolution of the model is obtained by using an irregular grid to describe the surface profile.
