Right distributive quasigroups on algebraic varieties

In this paper we develop a structure theory of algebraic right distributive quasigroups which correspond to closed and connected conjugacy classes generating algebraic Fischer groups (in the sense of [6]) such that the mappingx x ^–1 ax, fora , is an automorphism of (as variety). We also give examples of algebraic Fischer groups where this does not happen. It becomes clear that the class of algebraic right distributive quasigroups has nice properties concerning subquasigroups, normal subquasigroups and direct product.We give a complete classification of one- and two-dimensional as well as of minimal algebraic right distributive quasigroups.     

New elliptic potentials

We construct all tangential covers as zeroes of a particular set of polynomials. The resulting pointed curves give rise, through the Krichever dictionary, to elliptic KP solitons. We then give a criterion to detect the so-called hyperelliptic-tangential covers, which give rise to elliptic KdV solitons. Finally we construct new examples of the latter covers and write down the corresponding (doubly periodic finite-gap) source potentials.Dedicated to the memory of J.-L. Verdier     

Relations on the period mapping giving extensions of mixed hodge structures on compact Riemann surfaces

We consider a period map from Teichmüller space to , which is a real vector bundle over the Siegel upper half space. This map lifts the Torelli map. We study the action of the mapping class group on this period map. We show that the period map from Teichmüller space modulo the Johnson kernel is generically injective. We derive relations that the quadratic periods must satisfy. These identities are generalizations of the symmetry of the Riemann period matrix. Using these higher bilinear relations, we show that the period map factors through a translation of the subbundle and is completely determined by the purely holomorphic quadratic periods. We apply this result to strengthen some theorems in the literature. One application is that the quadratic periods, along with the abelian periods, determine a generic marked compact Riemann surface up to an element of the kernel of Johnson's homomorphism. Another application is that we compute the cocycle that exhibits the mapping class group modulo the Johnson kernel as an extension of the group SP _g () by the group .     

Norm-graphs and bipartite turán numbers

For everyt>1 and positiven we construct explicit examples of graphsG with |V (G)|=n, |E(G)|c _t ·n ^2–1/t which do not contain a complete bipartite graghK _t,t !+1 This establishes the exact order of magnitude of the Turán numbers ex (n, K _t,s ) for any fixedt and allst!+1, improving over the previous probabilistic lower bounds for such pairs (t, s). Zero cycles on conic fibrations and a conjecture of Bloch

Let X be a smooth projective surface over a number field k. Let (CH₀(X)) denote the Chow group of zero-cyles modulo rational equivalence on X. Let CH₀(X) be the subgroup of CH ₀(X) consisting of classes which vanish when going over to an arbitrary completion of k. Bloch put forward a conjecture asserting that this group is isomorphic to the Tate-Shafarevich group of a certain Galois module atttached to X. In this paper, we disprove this general conjecture. We produce a conic bundle X over an elliptic curve, for which the group (CH₀(X) is not zero, but the Galois-theoretic Tate-Shafarevich group vanishes.     

14N遥测核四极共振中的偏离共振效应

本文对遥测NQR谱中的偏离共振效应作了较详细地研究,发现¹⁴N谱线的强度随偏离共振效应而变化。当偏离共振强度与射频场强度接近时,测得的谱线强度最大。该效应可用来增强¹⁴N遥测NQR谱仪的灵敏度。上述实验现象在理论上采用脉冲的激发带宽方法作了解释和讨论。

Modular curves and Poncelet polygons

Rigidity of harmonic maps of maximum rank

Thehomotopical rank of a mapf:M →N is, by definition, min{dimg(M) ¦g homotopic tof}. We give upper bounds for this invariant whenM is compact Kähler andN is a compact discrete quotient of a classical symmetric space, e.g., the space of positive definite matrices. In many cases the upper bound is sharp and is attained by geodesic immersions of locally hermitian symmetric spaces. An example is constructed (Section 9) to show that there do, in addition, exist harmonic maps of quite a different character. A byproduct is construction of an algebraic surface with large and interesting fundamental group. Finally, a criterion for lifting harmonic maps to holomorphic ones is given, as is a factorization theorem for representations of the fundamental group of a compact Kähler manifold. The technique for the main result is a combination of harmonic map theory, algebra, and combinatorics; it follows the path pioneered by Siu in his ridigity theorem and later extended by Sampson.
