First systematic investigation of C-H...Cl hydrogen bonding using inorganic supramolecular synthons: lamellar, stitched stair-case, linked-ladder, and helical structures

Using a group of six neutral M(II)Cl(2)-containing coordination compounds as building blocks, the first systematic investigation of C-H...Cl hydrogen-bonding interactions was performed. Single-crystal X-ray structural analyses of four new compounds (pseudo-tetrahedral Co(II) and Zn(II); distorted trigonal bipyramidal Zn(II)) authenticate the metal coordination geometry. To provide a unified view of the presence of noncovalent interactions in this class of compounds, we have re-examined the packing diagram of two previously reported compounds (a distorted square-pyramidal Cu(II) complex and a trans-octahedral Co(II) complex). The organic ligands of our choice comprise bidentate/tridentate pyrazolylmethylpyridines and an unsymmetrical tridentate pyridylalkylamine. This systematic investigation has allowed us to demonstrate the existence of versatile C-H...Cl(2)M interactions and to report the successful application of such units as inorganic supramolecular synthons. Additional noncovalent interactions such as C-H...O and O-H...Cl hydrogen bonding and pi-pi stacking interactions have also been identified. Formation of novel supramolecular architectures has been revealed: 2D lamellar (p-cyclophane) and 3D lamellar, 3D "stitched staircase" (due to additional hydrogen-bonding interactions by water tetramers, with an average O-O bond length in the tetramer unit of 2.926 A, acting as "molecular clips" between staircases), 3D linked ladder, and single-stranded 1D helix.

As a necessary basic theory course for undergraduates majoring in chemistry, materials, pharmacy, chemical engineering, and biology, physical chemistry plays an important role in cultivating talents to meet the needs of social and economic development. Over the years, the teaching team of physical chemistry of East China University of Science and Technology has carried out the curriculum reform and innovation persistently based on "Team building as the foundation, resource building as the root, mode innovation as the soul, ability training as the origin". This paper will summarize our thinking and experience in striving for the first-class course from the aspects of first-class team construction, first-class resource construction, teaching connotation innovation, teaching mode exploration, and extract the experience that can be used as reference by teaching peers.     

新工科视阈下石油化工类高校应用化学专业课程体系重构

Taking a typical local and industry-orientated applied chemistry major as an example with focusing on the major changes in the form and content of the petrochemical industry, the way to reform the core curriculum system and teaching contents is presented. Based on the changing tendency of refinement of the petrochemical industry, a complete curriculum system with distinctive industry characteristics is set up according to the principles of the emerging engineering education (3E) with several reasonable suggestions. A new model for the construction of a 3E major in chemistry-related majors is suggested. It is a good reference for the construction of curriculum systems for other local and industry-orientated colleges who want to make 3E reform.     

Education by Teaching Analytical Chemistry in Romania

Calix[4]arene-based ditopic receptor for dicarboxylates

Shape-selective recognition for the dicarboxylates in DMSO can be attained by a new calix[4]arene-based receptor 1 having two urea groups. Biologically active chorismate selectively bound in 1 over its dehydrated derivative. Molecular mechanics calculations gave a plausible explanation for the selective binding.     

Nature of weak inter-and intramolecular interactions in crystals 6. Intramolecular O—H...O bond in enol forms of (phosphoryl)acylacetonitriles

The nature of the intramolecular O—H...O bond was studied and its energy was estimated by X-ray diffraction analysis and quantum-chemical calculations (B3LYP/6-311G**) of (diphenylphosphoryl)acylacetonitriles. The influence of the nature of the substituents at the double bond in the H-bonded ring and the crystal packing effects on the hydrogen bond were investigated. 离线超临界流体萃取和气相色谱/质谱联用对实验室内空气中气相有机污染物的测试

通过团体吸附剂富集，再用超临界ＣＯ２脱附后用气相色谱及质谱技术对实验室内空气中气相有机污染物进行了考察。文中对采样和萃取条件进行了优化，并与热脱附所得结果做了比较。结果表明在２２ＭＰａ，８０℃时，用甲醇改性的超临界ＣＯ２进行萃取的结果优于热脱附法。该法鉴定出气相有机污染物中５２个组分，占色谱峰总面积的９９．６％。     

Parallel synthesis of multi-branched oligosaccharides related to elicitor active pentasaccharide in rice cell based on orthogonal deprotection and glycosylation strategy

We describe a parallel and efficient synthesis of multi-branched oligosaccharides 3a-g based upon the structure of the phytoalexin elicitor active branched pentasaccharide 2. One-pot sequential orthogonal deprotection of tetrasaccharide 5 with three different protecting groups provided each of seven glycosyl acceptors 4a-g. Glycosylation of the acceptors 4a-g, followed by deprotection provided branched oligosaccharides 3a-g. All the reaction processes from scaffold 5 to 3a-g except for final hydrogenolysis were achieved utilizing an automated synthesizer in a parallel fashion.     

A new color of the synthetic chameleon methoxyallene: synthesis of trifluoromethyl-substituted pyridinol derivatives: an unusual reaction mechanism, a remarkable crystal packing, and first palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions

Addition of lithiated methoxyallene to pivalonitrile afforded after aqueous workup the expected iminoallene 1 in excellent yield. Treatment of this intermediate with silver nitrate accomplished the desired cyclization to the electron-rich pyrrole derivative 2 in moderate yield. Surprisingly, trifluoroacetic acid converted iminoallene 1 to a mixture of enamide 3 and trifluoromethyl-substituted pyridinol 4 (together with its tautomer 5). A plausible mechanism proposed for this intriguing transformation involves addition of trifluoroacetate to the central allene carbon atom of an allenyl iminium intermediate as crucial step. Enamide 3 is converted to pyridinol 4 by an intramolecular aldol-type process. A practical direct synthesis of trifluoromethyl-substituted pyridinols 4, 10, 11, and 12 starting from typical nitriles and methoxyallene was established. Pyridinol 10 shows an interesting crystal packing with three molecules in the elementary cell and a remarkable helical supramolecular arrangement. Trifluoromethyl-substituted pyridinol 4 was converted to the corresponding pyridyl nonaflate 13, which is an excellent precursor for palladium-catalyzed reactions leading to pyridine derivatives 14-16 in good to excellent yields. The new synthesis of trifluoromethyl-substituted pyridines disclosed here demonstrates a novel reactivity pattern of lithiated methoxyallene which is incorporated into the products as the unusual tripolar synthon B.     

Organic molecular beam deposition of oligophenyls on Au111: A study by X-ray absorption spectroscopy.

Near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy has been applied to reveal the molecular arrangement of ultrathin oligophenyl films [p-quaterphenyl (4P) and p-hexaphenyl (6P)] on Au(111). In the half-monolayer films the molecules lie flat on the surface but still have a considerable inter-ring twist of 30 degrees -40 degrees , similar to the gas-phase conformation. In the saturated monolayer film the second half of the molecules is side-tilted by an angle of less than 66 degrees with respect to the surface. This arrangement is already similar to that in bulk net planes of thicker films parallel to the surface, that is, the 4P(211) and 6P(21-3) planes, respectively.
