Design and Cold Tests of Asymmetric Quasioptical Resonators

This paper presents the design and test of asymmetric quasioptical resonators for gyrotron applications, where most of the diffraction output coupling comes from the smaller of two mirrors. A computer code based on scalar diffraction theory is used to calculate the resonator losses and the electric field near the mirrors. Resonators with mirror separations approaching confocal have reduced side lobes in the diffraction patterns, which should allow for better power transmission and focusing. Cold tests have been performed at 94 and 141 GHz to measure the quality factor of the asymmetric resonators as a function of mirror separation and mirror misalignment. Typical resonator parameters include 65 cm mirror separation, 1-3% output coupling and 85% of the losses from the small mirror. A half-symmetric resonator with one flat and one curved mirror has also been investigated. The calculated values of Q are in reasonably good agreement with the cold test measurements.

铸膜液的溶剂体系（溶剂和非溶剂）对不对称膜形态的形成有重要作用。为了探索溶剂和透气性间的关系，本文考虑到了制备ＢＣＡ梯度密度不对称膜的各种溶剂的一系列物理参数，得到了一些定性结果，并指出了更全面、明确、解释两者关系的研究方向。     

Enantiospecific synthesis of isomers of AES, a new environmentally friendly chelating agent

Three four-step enantiospecific syntheses of different diastereomers of AES, a new biodegradable chelating agent, are described. The stereocenters in each of the isomers are accessible from l- and d-malic and aspartic acids.     

Free radical-mediated vinyl amination: a mild, general pyrrolidinyl enamine synthesis

The complete scope of free radical-mediated vinyl amination is described, using 5-exo-trig cyclizations of vinyl radicals to the nitrogen of azomethines. The focus is primarily on N,N-dialkyl enamines since their nucleophilicity renders them the most challenging enamines to synthesize using redox conditions. These studies establish several encouraging precedents for the broader application of this strategy.     

Synthesis of spherical and hemispherical sugar‐containing poly(ornithine) dendrimers

A novel sugar‐containing poly(ornithine) dendrimer is synthesized for possible antigen delivery and related applications. The dendrimer contains an ornithine dendron as interior scaffolding and oligosaccharides on the periphery, which provide an attachment site for a peptide antigen. Maltose or lactose is bound to both hemispherical and spherical poly(ornithine) dendrimer generation 3 (G3) by reductive amination between its reducing end and the peripheral amino group of the dendrimer using a borane‐pyridine complex in a buffer solution at 50 °C. The degree of substitution of sugar is changed by varying the molar ratio of sugar to dendrimer. When the surface of spherical poly(ornithine) dendrimer G3 is modified by binding β‐alanine to the 16 amino groups, highly substituted maltose‐ or lactose‐β‐alanine‐poly(ornithine) dendrimer G3 is obtained in high yield after 7 days of reaction. The structures of these sugar‐containing dendrimers are characterized by NMR and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry analyses. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dihydroboronium derivatives of (S,S)-1,2-bis(t-butylmethylphosphino)ethane as convenient chiral ligand precursors

Dihydroboronium derivatives of (S,S)-1,2-bis(t-butylmethylphosphino)ethane (t-Bu-BisP*) were prepared and used as chiral diphosphine ligand precursors in Rh-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of methyl (Z)-acetamidocinnamate to afford the hydrogenation product in up to 94% enantioselectivity.
