Using “pure” natural hematite selected from a high silica Nigerian hematitic ore, oleate adsorption densities at the hematite–water interface were determined in the presence of various inorganic ions (anions and cations) of different charges and at varying concentrations. Adsorption density was determined using electrical conductivity measurements. The specific surface area of the hematite particles was determined using the method of adsorption of paranitrophenol in aqueous solution. Inorganic ions in solution depressed oleate adsorption at the aqueous hematite surface. The charge of the ion proved to be the dominant factor determining the depression of oleate adsorption. Ionic strength also was an influence, up to a limiting value at which monolayer oleate coverage of the hematite surface occurred. The inorganic ions in solution are considered to function through nonspecific adsorption in the diffuse region of the electric double layer.  相似文献

A new branched-pore adsorption model has been developed using an external mass transfer coefficient, K f, an effective diffusivity, D eff, a lumped micropore diffusion rate parameter, K b, and the fraction of macropores, f, to describe sorption kinetic data from initial adsorbent-adsorbate contact to the long-term adsorption phase. This model has been applied to an environmental pollution problem—the removal of two dyes, Acid Blue 80 (AB80) and Acid Red 114 (AR114), by sorption on activated carbon. A computer program has been used to generate theoretical concentration-time curves and the four mass transfer kinetic parameters adjusted so that the model achieves a close fit to the experimental data. The best fit values of the parameters have been determined for different initial dye concentrations and carbon masses. Since the model is specifically applicable to fixed constant values of these four parameters, a further and key application of this project is to see if single constant values of these parameters can be used to describe all the experimental concentration-time decay curves for one dye-carbon system.The error analysis and best fit approach to modeling the decay curves for both dye systems show that the correlation between experimental and theoretical data is good for the fixed values of the four fitted parameters. A significantly better fit of the model predictions is obtained when K f, K b and f are maintained constant but D eff is varied. This indicates that the surface diffusivity may vary as a function of surface coverage.  相似文献

Studies on the iron passivation by organic acid anions in aqueous solutions are briefly reviewed. It is shown that the passivation can be caused only by their adsorption, retarding both the iron dissolution and the formation of oxide films. Earlier, it had been believed that oxide films play a dominant role in the iron passivation in neutral solutions. The recent viewpoint is that such nonoxide iron passivation can occur in solutions of salts of not only aromatic amino acids (sodium phenylantranilate and its substitutes), but other carboxylic acids as well. An important role of chemisorption and hydrophobic properties of anions for the formation of adsorption passive films is emphasized. n–electron valence state perturbation theory (NEVPT) is a form of multireference perturbation theory where all the zero-order wave functions are of multireference nature, being generated as eigenfunctions of a two–electron model Hamiltonian. The absence of intruder states makes NEVPT an interesting choice for the calculation of electronically excited states. The interaction of ibuprofen [2-(4-isobutylphenyl)propionic acid] with the surface of carbon and oxide adsorbents was investigated. The significant role of wide pores during the adsorption of ibuprofen on carbon adsorbents in the presence of protein molecules was demonstrated. At low concentrations ibuprofen is adsorbed on the surface of hydrophilic and hydrophobic adsorbents in the form of a monomer, but the contribution from the adsorbed dimer increases with increase in its concentration.  相似文献

In order to understand the patterns of the adsorption equilibrium of Cr (III) on activated carbon, the adsorption process was studied by two different ways: classical batch experiments on commercial Norit and Merck activated carbons and their oxidized forms in a wide range of pHs; and extended time-based tests at the same pH values on the same adsorbents. This approach allowed us to understand the role of texture, chemical carbon surface functionality and experimental conditions (initial pH of the solution, contact time and adsorbate/adsorbent ratio) on the effectiveness of Cr (III) removal. The adsorption process of Cr (III) at (24 ± 1C) on Merck and Norit activated carbons and their oxidized forms were studied at pH values between 1.5 and 5 (either adjusted or buffered). Chromium concentration was fixed at 200 ppm. The carbon loading ranged from 1.2 to 20 g/l. The carbon/Cr (III) solution contact time was varied from 0.5–1 month to 5 months, to ensure that the saturation of the carbon level was reached. According to the data obtained, the presence of carboxylic groups on carbon surface seems to enhance Cr (III) uptake at initial pH of the solution in the range between 2 and 4. Depending on the nature of the adsorbent surface chemistry, the contact time to reach equilibrium may range from 3 to 5 months. There is an optimum carbon loading which limits the Cr (III) uptake/removal at given pH value. In order to understand the adsorption process, an ion exchange, surface complex and surface precipitation were considered. Adsorbents synthesized by grafting of titania onto mesoporous silica gel surfaces at different temperatures were studied by means of nitrogen adsorption–desorption and water desorption. The pore size distribution f(Rp) of titania/silica gel depends on the titania concentration (CTiO2) and the temperature of titania synthesis. Nonuniformity of TiO2 phase is maximal at a low CTiO2 value (3.2 wt.% anatase deposited at 473 K), and two peaks of the fractal dimension distribution f(D) are observed at such a concentration of titania, but at larger CTiO2 values, only one f(D) peak is seen. More ordered filling of pores and adsorption sites by nitrogen, reflecting in the shape of adsorption energy distributions f(E) at different pressures of adsorbate, is observed for adsorbent with titania (rutile+anatase) grafted on silica gel at a higher temperature (673 K).  相似文献

采用XAFS方法研究浸渍法制备并于低温焙烧的CuO/γ-Al2O3催化剂的局域结构.对于CuO负载量小于单层分散阈值的CuO/γ-Al2O3(0.4 mmol/100 m2),结果表明,CuO物种是以层状分散的孤立原子簇存在于γ-Al2O3载体表面,其第一近邻Cu-O配位环境的结构与晶态CuO的相似,键长和配位数分别为0.195 nm和4.对于CuO负载量等于单层分散阈值的CuO/γ-Al2O3(0.8 mmol/100 m2),已有少量的CuO纳米颗粒生成.对于CuO负载量大于单层分散阈值的CuO/γ-Al2O3(1.2 mmol/100 m2),其结构与多晶CuO的相近.基于CuO在γ-Al2O3载体上的三种不同分散状态的结构特点,我们提出了CuO/γ-Al2O3催化剂的结构模型.  相似文献

Poly(p-chloromethylstyrene-ethyleneglycoldimethacrylate) polymeric microbeads, poly(p-CMS-EGDMA), were synthesized and 1,5,9,13-tetrathiacyclohexadecane-3,11-diol (S4HD) was attached chemically onto the polymeric microbeads. Characterization of all microbeads was done by Fourier transform-infrared spectrometry (FT-IR) and elemental analyzer. The amount of attached 1,5,9,13-tetrathiacyclohexadecane-3,11-diol to the polymer was found to be 2.23 mmol g−1 polymers. The ligand attached microbeads, poly(p-CMS-EGDMA-S4HD), were used to examine the adsorption capacity of Pb(II), Cd(II), Hg(II) and Cr(II) ions for recovery, pre-concentration and the matrix elimination by changing the pH and the initial metal ion concentrations and also adsorption kinetics of the studied metal ions was determined. Pre-concentration factors for the studied toxic metal ions were found to be more than 500-fold and recovery was between 92 and 106%. In the drinking, lake, tap and sea-water samples from water lands, ultra-trace toxic metal ion concentrations were determined easily by using ligand modified microbeads after pre-concentration because of the high pre-concentration factor and easily matrix elimination using ligand modified microbeads. Reference sea-water material was used for the validation of the method and it was found that recovery, pre-concentration and the matrix elimination were performed perfectly. For the desorption of the toxic metal ions, 3 M HCl containing 0.8 M thiourea was used and desorption ratio was obtained more than 96%.  相似文献
