Polymerizable benzophenone derivatives for labeling vinyl acetate‐butylacrylate latex particles

We describe the synthesis and characterization of three new polymerizable benzophenone derivatives [2‐acryloxy‐5‐methyl benzophenone ( 8 ), 4′‐dimethylamino‐2‐acryloxy‐5‐methyl benzophenone ( 9 ), and 4′‐dimethylamino‐2‐(β‐acryloxyethyl)oxy‐5‐methyl benzophenone ( 10 )]. We show that these monomers can successfully be incorporated into vinyl acetate (VAc) copolymer latex particles. These particles were prepared by semicontinuous emulsion polymerization and mini‐emulsion polymerization of VAc with butylacrylate (BA) for VAc/BA = 4/1 by weight. The two monomers 9 and 10 bearing the 4′‐dimethylamino group satisfy the important spectroscopic criteria required of a dye to serve as an acceptor chromophore for nonradiative energy transfer from phenanthrene (Phe) as the donor. Their UV absorption spectra suggest significant overlap with the emission spectrum of Phe, which can be incorporated into P(VAc‐co‐BA) latex through copolymerization with 9‐acryloxymethyl Phe ( 2 ). In addition, these chromophores provide a window in their absorption spectra for excitation of the Phe chromophore at 300 nm. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Tandem reactions of α-diazo ketones with macrocyclic olefins: diastereoselective synthesis of oxanorbornane fused macrocyclic lactones

Tandem cyclization-cycloaddition reactions of α-diazo ketones with macrocyclic olefins in the presence of rhodium(II) acetate catalyst led to the oxanorbornane fused macrocyclic di- or tetralactone ring systems in moderate yield. This forms the first example of 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions with a macrocyclic olefin as a dipolarophile, affording a variety of new oxanorbornane fused macrocycles with diastereoselectivity.     

羟丙基醋酸纤维素的合成及其膜的反渗透性

研究了羟丙基纤维素和羟丙基醋酸纤维素的合成。制备羟丙基纤维素的较佳反应温度为40℃左右和2小时或稍长,羟丙基含量随环氧丙烷浓度的增加而增加。在制备羟丙基醋酸纤维素时,随羟丙基含量的增加,所需醋化和水解的时间减少。以甘油-正丙醇或磷酸为添加剂,丙酮为溶剂经30～60s蒸发后制得了羟丙基醋酸纤维素反渗透膜。后者在20kg/cm~2下对氯化钠脱盐率可达95～98％,水通量1.0～2.1mL/cm~2·h,其使用温度上限比醋酸纤维素反渗透膜提高10℃以上。     

Construction of a pyrido[4,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis>]pyrimidine system on the basis of <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-cyanobenzamidine and diethyl acetone-1,3-dicarboxylate

Nickel acetate promoted reaction of diethyl acetone-1,3-dicarboxylate with N-cyanobenzamidine led to ethyl 4-amino-6-ethoxycarbonylmethyl-2-phenylpyrimidine-5-carboxylate, upon treatment of which with RNH₂, the corresponding 6-(carbamoylmethyl)pyrimidines were obtained. Cyclization of the latter upon treatment with MeONa afforded 6-R-4-amino-7-hydroxy-2-phenylpyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidin-5(6H)-ones. Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. Polymerization behavior of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyl methacrylate: A monomer carrying a hindered amine group

Copolymers of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyl methacrylate (TPMA) with styrene (S) and with methyl methacrylate (MMA) were synthesized using AIBN as initiator. S–TPMA copolymers from feed ranging from 0.10–0.80 mole fractions TPMA and MMA-TPMA copolymers from feed of 0.04–0.85 mole fractions TPMA were used in the determination of monomer reactivity ratios r₁, r₂. Four different methods were employed in the calculations of r₁ and r₂ and all calculated results were in good agreement with each other. The structure of S–TPMA copolymers was inferred to be of an alternating nature while that of MMA–TPMA copolymers was random. Both copolymers are potential hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) and are expected to be less extractable from, and more compatible with, polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) base polymers.     

Preparation of light-stable micelles with azo dyes from a nonamphiphilic random block copolymer

Light-stable micelles with azo dyes were prepared by micelle formation of a nonamphiphilic diblock copolymer containing azobenzene and UV absorbent at ca. 1 mol% as the unit ratios. The nonamphiphilic block copolymer consists of two different kinds of random copolymer blocks: poly[4-(phenylazophenoxymethyl)styrene-co-vinylphenol] (P(AS-co-VPh)) and poly[4-(2-hydroxybenzophenoxymethyl)styrene-co-styrene] (P(HBS-co-St)). This random block copolymer, P(AS-co-VPh)-b-P(HBS-co-St) formed the micelles in the presence of 1,4-butanediamine (BDA) through hydrogen bond cross-linking between the VPh units via BDA. The micelles had the azobenzene moieties at the cores and the UV absorbents at the coronas. The micelles showed a small color difference in color fading experiments, in comparison with the unimers and with micelles having no UV absorbent at the coronas. It is significant that the diblock copolymer forms the micelles and has the UV absorbents at the coronas to suppress the color fading. Furthermore, the chain length of ,-diamines had no effect on the hydrodynamic radius of the micelles, but affected the aggregation number and the cmc.     

Synthesis of Fullerene-Acrylamide Copolymer Nanoball and Its Lubrication Properties

A novel fuUerene-acrylamide copolymer was synthesized via radical polymerization. It is soluble in polar solvents such as water, dimethyl sulfoxide etc. The product was characterized by FTIR, UV-Vis and GPC. TEM analysis shows that the average particle diameter is about 46 nm. Four-ball tests show that the addition of a certain concentration of the fullerene copolymer to base stock (2 wt% triethanolamine and 0.5 wt% OPZ aqueous solution) can effectively raise the load-carrying capacity (PB value) and the antiwear ability. SEM analysis shows that the addition results in reducing diameter of wear scar and decreasing wear.     

含规整聚环氧乙烷枝链的聚硅氧烷的合成及表征

以萘钾为引发剂，二甲基亚砜为溶剂制备了以烯丙基为末端基的聚环氧乙烷大单体，并利用末端双键的硅氢化反应合成了相对分子质量规整的聚环氧乙烷接枝聚硅氧烷的共聚物。产物经萃取精制后，用ＩＲ、￣１ＨＮＭＲ等方法进行了表征。     

Development of a novel potentiometric titration method for determination of polypropylene degradation

In this study, a novel potentiometric titration of hydroperoxide in degraded polypropylene (PP) is proposed. This titration is quite sensitive compared with the conventional ones such as UV and manual titrations, and its detection limit was about 2 meq/kg. The sensitivity was equal to that of molecular weight measurement by GPC for the degraded PP and, in addition, the volatilization behavior of the hydroperoxide could be detected. This titration was found to be very effective for the determination of PP degradation.
