To have a better knowledge of problems occurring with drilling fluids in complex wells, we carried out a detailed rheological analysis of a typical drilling mud at low shear rates using both conventional rheometry and MRI velocimetry. We show the existence of a viscosity bifurcation effect: Below a critical stress value, the mud tends to completely stop flowing, whereas beyond this critical stress, it reaches an apparent shear rate larger than a finite (critical) value, and no stable flows can be obtained between this critical shear rate value and zero. These results are confirmed by MRI velocity profiles, which exhibit a slope break at the interface between the solid and the liquid phases inside the Couette geometry. Moreover, this viscosity bifurcation is a transient phenomenon, the progressive development of which can be observed by MRI. A further examination of MRI data shows that, in the transient regime, the shear rate does not vary monotonously in the rheometer gap and is particularly large along the outer (rough) cylinder, which might be at the origin of the development of a region of constant shear rate in the apparent flow curve. 相似文献

A new method for determining viscosity of liquids is examined. The method employs the principles of vibration and measures the viscous damping due to the motion of a liquid placed in a cylindrical tube. The apparatus and the test liquid are treated as a dynamic system and the measured mechanical impedances are used to calculate energy dissipation due to the viscous damping. The newly designed apparatus is able to generate shear deformations in the liquid without using moving solid surfaces. A harmonic varying force with a frequency close to the resonance frequency of the system is applied through a piston and the resulting velocities of the oscillations generated in the system are measured. Liquids with higher viscosities result in lower velocities due to the higher damping. Analytical equations are provided to relate the viscous damping of the dynamic system to the viscosity of the liquids. The viscosities obtained from the proposed method are in good agreement with the ones obtained from standard rotational viscometry using a cone and plate geometry. 相似文献

Density, electrical conductivity and viscosity of binary liquid mixtures of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, [bmim][NTf2], with γ-butyrolactone (GBL) were measured at temperatures from (293.15 to 323.15) K and at atmospheric pressure over the whole composition range. Excess molar volumes have been calculated from the experimental densities and were fitted with Redlich–Kister polynomial equation. Densities and viscosities were determined for binary mixtures of 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([bmim][BF4]), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][PF6]) or 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide ([bmim][NTf2]) over the entire range of composition. The experimental measurements were carried out at temperatures ranging from 278.15 K to 333.15 K, at atmospheric pressure. The densities and viscosities of the pure ionic liquids and their mixtures with TFE were described successfully by an empirical third-order polynomial and by the Vogel–Fulcher–Tammann equation, respectively. Three novel ligands H4Ln (n = 1–3) and their copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes were prepared and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molar conductivity, 1H NMR, UV/Vis, and IR spectroscopy as well as mass spectrometry. DNA binding properties of the ligands and their complexes were investigated by absorption spectroscopy, ethidium bromide displacement experiments, and viscosity measurements. The experimental results indicate that the new ligands and their complexes can bind to DNA and the binding affinities of the complexes are higher than those of the ligands. In addition, the antioxidant activity of the ligands and complexes was determined by superoxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging methods in vitro, indicating that the complexes exhibit more effective antioxidant activity than the ligands alone. 相似文献

New physical model is presented resulting in a simple formula for the dependence of viscosity η of colloidal liquid solution on the shear rate G applicable to a wide variety of systems including complex natural liquids like petroleum. The principal point of the model is the fractal nature of colloid particle aggregates present in the liquid. Such aggregates are experimentally detected now in non-Newtonian liquids. The model is based on calculation of energy loss on colloidal particle aggregate of fractal structure localized in the flow of liquid with shear rate. We have performed the viscosity measurement experiments which confirmed successfully the developed physical model. Also, we demonstrate experimentally that petroleum colloidal particles and magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles can form composite fractal-like aggregates in natural petroleum materials. Our model can explain both the non-Newtonian properties of petroleum and sensitivity of petroleum viscosity to external magnetic fields. 相似文献

A new apparatus to measure simultaneously the density and viscosity of liquids has been designed and constructed based on the hydrostatic weighing and falling-body principles. The density and viscosity of monoethylene glycol (MEG), diethylene glycol (DEG), and triethylene glycol (TEG) and their binary, (50%MEG + 50%DEG), (50%MEG + 50%TEG), (50%DEG + 50%TEG), and ternary (33.33%MEG + 33.33%DEG + 33.34%TEG) mixtures have been measured over the temperature range from 293 K to 473 K and at atmospheric pressure. The expanded uncertainty of the density, pressure, temperature, and viscosity measurements at the 95% confidence level with a coverage factor of k = 2 is estimated to be 0.15% to 0.30%, 0.05%, 0.06 K, and 1.5% to 2.0% (depending on temperature and pressure ranges), respectively. The theoretically based Arrhenius–Andrade and Vogel–Tamman–Fulcher type equations were used to describe the temperature dependence of measured viscosities for pure polyethylene glycols and their mixtures. 相似文献

制备了一种脂肪酸酯双磺酸盐型双子表面活性剂, 利用粘度法、界面张力法和原子力显微镜研究了疏水缔合聚丙烯酰胺与双子表面活性剂在溶液中的相互作用. 实验结果表明: 疏水缔合聚丙烯酰胺在溶液中能够通过自组装形成疏水微区并发展成网络结构, 疏水微区与表面活性剂在溶液中能形成混合胶束; 当一定量的表面活性剂加入时, 对疏水缔合聚丙烯酰胺的自组装起促进作用, 而过多双子表面活性剂的加入又会对聚合物分子的自组装起抑制作用, 从而显著影响疏水缔合聚丙烯酰胺的溶液性质, 随着表面活性剂浓度的增加, 聚合物溶液粘度先增加、再降低; 同时, 疏水缔合聚丙烯酰胺对双子表面活性剂的界面性能也有较大影响, 聚合物的加入使双子表面活性剂降低油/水界面张力的能力下降, 油/水界面张力达到平衡所需时间延长. 相似文献
