Mechanical properties of hybrid PMMA composites reinforced with UHMWPE fiber and nano‐titanium dioxide (2, 4, 6, and 8 wt%) was investigated. In this work, the effect of UHMWPE fiber surface treatment on tensile, flexural, and impact properties of PMMA composites was studied. The fiber loadings were varied from 0% to 20%. The addition of UHMWPE fiber had caused a decline in the tensile strength of the PMMA composite. Results revealed that the presence of titanium dioxide on the surface treated UHMWPE fiber has further enhanced the efficiency of stress transfer from the matrix to the fiber thus improved the interfacial adhesion between the UHMWPE fiber and PMMA matrix.  相似文献

In this paper, the wear performance of an ultra‐high molecular weight polyethylene composites filled with wood fiber were studied using a pin‐on‐disc method. The effects of surface treatment of wood fiber and sliding load and on the friction and wear of the wood fiber/UHMWPE composite are reported. The test results showed that the sliding load is an important controlling factor; its effect is diminished when the wood fiber is modified.  相似文献

The current work presents the characterization and comparison of the mechanical response of three different industrial forms of polyethylene. Specifically, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), and cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) were tested in compression as a function of temperature (−75 to 100°C) and strain-rate (10−4 to 2,600 s−1). The responses of UHMWPE and PEX are very similar, whereas HDPE exhibits some differences. The HDPE samples display a significantly higher yield stress followed by a flat flow behavior. Conversely UHMWPE and PEX both exhibit significant strain hardening after yield. The temperature and strain-rate dependence are captured by simple linear and logarithmic fits over the full range of conditions investigated. The yield behavior is presented in terms of an empirical mapping function that is extended to analytically solve for the mapping constant. The power-law dependence on strain-rate observed in some polymers is explained using this mapping function.  相似文献

通过三元共聚将马来酸酐活性基团引入大分子链中,制备了两个系列的反应性高分子抗菌剂poly(DMAEMA-BC/AAm/MAn)和poly(DMAEMA-DB/AAm/MAn),并用FT-IR对合成的反应性高分子抗菌剂进行了结构表征,用酸碱滴定法测定了其酸值,通过平板活菌计数法测定了反应性高分子抗菌剂的抗菌活性,并表征了它们的抗菌活性对抗菌时间与浓度的依赖关系。通过热整理工艺将三元共聚物与棉织物反应,制得抗菌织物。之后,通过改良振荡烧瓶法测定了抗菌整理后棉织物的抗菌效果,并进一步考察了织物抗菌效果的耐洗性。研究结果表明,少量的马来酸酐(单体摩尔比5%)有助于提高共聚单体的反应活性,共聚物中含少量马来酸酐时,抗菌活性增强。用马来酸酐单体摩尔比5~35%的poly(DMAEMA-BC/AAm/MAn)或5~25%的poly(DMAEMA-DB/AAm/MAn)整理的抗菌织物均具有良好的抗菌效果,且前者经过100次水洗,后者经200次水洗后,仍表现良好的抗菌效果。  相似文献

The use of a hindered phenol to trap free trimethylaluminum (TMA) in methylaluminoxane (MAO) solutions has been reported to improve the performance of single‐site, homogeneous catalysts for olefin polymerization. In the present study, with the help of rheological analyses, we have investigated and compared the molecular weight, molecular weight distribution and entanglement density of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene synthesized with a single‐site catalyst activated by MAO and phenol‐modified MAO. While the number average molecular weight (Mn) of the obtained polymers remains the same for both activations, a higher yield and a higher entanglement density are found in the initial stages of polymerization on using phenol‐modified MAO as the cocatalyst. These results suggest that on using the phenol‐modified MAO as activator, a higher number of active sites are obtained. The electrospinning method has been employed to fabricate ultrafine nanofibers of ultrahigh‐molecular‐weight polyethylene for the first time with a mixture of solvents of different dielectric constants and conductivities. The possibility of producing highly oriented nanofibers from ultrahigh‐molecular‐weight polymers suggests new ways of fabricating ultrastrong, porous, and single‐component nanocomposite fibers with improved properties. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper described the synthesis of copolymer emulsions of fluorine and siloxane‐containing acrylates for water‐repellent cotton fabrics coatings. Chemical composition, morphology structure, and properties of the latex copolymers were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Effects of water‐repellent functional monomers (Rf) on surface morphology, water contact angle, and water‐repellent properties of the coated fabric surface were also studied. The results indicated that Rf greatly influenced molecular mass distribution of the latex copolymers, the molecular aggregation states and orientation of Rf on the coated fabric surface, and water‐repellency of coated cotton fabrics. Microindentation hardness testing was applied to five types of highly-crosslinked ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylenes (UHMWPEs) for total joint replacements. UHMWPE's were crosslinked using the same total radiation dose (75 kGy; γ-radiation) either by the standard, single-step irradiation (one-step crosslinking) or by the newer, several-step irradiation (sequential crosslinking). Each irradiation step was followed by thermal treatment (annealing at 110 °C or remelting at 150 °C) in an inert atmosphere. We showed that: (i) the micromechanical properties were determined by the last thermal treatment step, while the number of irradiation cycles was insignificant and (ii) the values of microhardness, microcreep and microplasticity from the microindentation experiments were in excellent agreement with the changes of UHMWPE structure, characterized by IR and DSC. Statistical evaluation of the results, the agreement with theoretical predictions and the comparison with previous studies on similar systems demonstrated that microindentation was a reliable and sensitive method of UHMWPE characterization.  相似文献
