We consider in this paper spectral and pseudospectral approximations using Hermite functions for PDEs on the whole line. We first develop some basic approximation results associated with the projections and interpolations in the spaces spanned by Hermite functions. These results play important roles in the analysis of the related spectral and pseudospectral methods. We then consider, as an example of applications, spectral and pseudospectral approximations of the Dirac equation using Hermite functions. In particular, these schemes preserve the essential conservation property of the Dirac equation. We also present some numerical results which illustrate the effectiveness of these methods.  相似文献

We study a system of quasilinear equations describing one-dimensional flow of a viscous compressible heat-conducting medium with a nonmonotone state function and mass force. The large-time behavior of solutions is considered for arbitrarily large initial data. In spite of possible nonuniqueness and discontinuity of the stationary solution, we prove L2-stabilization for the stress and heat flux as t → ∞ along with corresponding global energy estimates for them. The new method of proof utilizes a combination of energy type equalities for the stress and heat flux. Consequently, H1-stabilization of the velocity and temperature along with global estimates for their derivatives are valid as well.  相似文献

We present a detailed proof of the existence-theorem for noncommutative spectral sections (see the noncommutative spectral flow, unpublished preprint, 1997). We apply this result to various index-theoretic situations, extending to the noncommutative context results of Booss–Wojciechowski, Melrose–Piazza and Dai–Zhang. In particular, we prove a variational formula, in K*(Cr*(Γ)), for the index classes associated to 1-parameter family of Dirac operators on a Γ-covering with boundary; this formula involves a noncommutative spectral flow for the boundary family. Next, we establish an additivity result, in K*(Cr*(Γ)), for the index class defined by a Dirac-type operator associated to a closed manifold M and a map r:MBΓ when we assume that M is the union along a hypersurface F of two manifolds with boundary M=M+ F M. Finally, we prove a defect formula for the signature-index classes of two cut-and-paste equivalent pairs (M1,r1:M1BΓ) and (M2,r2:M2BΓ), where
M1=M+ (F1) M, M2=M+ (F2) M
and φjDiff(F). The formula involves the noncommutative spectral flow of a suitable 1-parameter family of twisted signature operators on F. We give applications to the problem of cut-and-paste invariance of Novikov's higher signatures on closed oriented manifolds.  相似文献

The isomonodromy deformation method is applied to the scaling limits in the linear N×N matrix equations with rational coefficients to obtain the deformation equations for the algebraic curves that describe the local behavior of the reduced versions for the relevant isomonodromy deformation equations. The approach is illustrated by the study of the algebraic curve associated with the n-large asymptotics in the sequence of the biorthogonal polynomials with cubic potentials.  相似文献

Scattered data collected at sample points may be used to determine simple functions to best fit the data. An ideal choice for these simple functions is bivariate splines. Triangulation of the sample points creates partitions over which the bivariate splines may be defined. But the optimality of the approximation is dependent on the choice of triangulation. An algorithm, referred to as an Edge Swapping Algorithm, has been developed to transform an arbitrary triangulation of the sample points into an optimal triangulation for representation of the scattered data. A Matlab package has been completed that implements this algorithm for any triangulation on a given set of sample points.  相似文献

We introduce a new spectral sequence called the p-chain spectral sequence which converges to the (co-)homology of a contravariant C-space with coefficients in a covariant C-spectrum for a small category C. It is different from the corresponding Atiyah–Hirzebruch-type spectral sequence. It can be used in combination with the Isomorphism Conjectures of Baum and Connes and Farrell and Jones to compute algebraic K- and L-groups of group rings and topological K-groups of reduced group C*-algebras.  相似文献

Sci., in press), which studies the critical exponent problem of a semilinear damped wave equation in the one-dimensional half space, to the general N-dimensional half space case. Using stochastic integration theory in topological vector spaces general formulas for the Hellinger processes are derived. Feynman–Kac type formulas are obtained for the related Hellinger integrals in terms of the Hellinger processes and the geometric mean measures.
