Reversible charge transfer in solids; binary approximation

A common theory of reversible charge transfer (RCT) kinetics for low and high excitation power with the use of the conditional concentration of acceptors is presented. A comparison with recently published RCT theory is given. The results are similar or identical only in restricted or fractal spaces of low dimension, and in the case of low concentration of acceptors, i.e. in all the cases when the conditions of the binary approximation are fulfilled. The deviation from the binary approximation results in a physically incorrect picture, the cause being due to the different space averaging procedure. The probability of the donor's cation state is an increasing function of the concentration of the acceptor and of the characteristic parameters of the rate constants. Received 26 May 1999     

Hemivariational Inequalities with a general growth condition: Existence and Approximation

The article deals with the existence and the approximation of nontrivial solutions to a general hemivariational inequality where the potential corresponding to the nonlinear term admits a superquadratic growth. Finally, convergence results for Galerkin type approximation are established. Since the usual techniques based on coerciveness assumptions fail in this case, one makes use of nonsmooth variational arguments. Our approach allows to cover in a unifying way the superlinear and sublinear situations. Improvements and completions of previous results are obtained.     

The determination of the plate count for large molecules under reversed-phase gradient conditions

The true performance of HPLC columns in the gradient separation of macromolecules can be assessed by measuring the true plate count, if we know the retention factor of the analyte at the point of elution. We are demonstrating in this short communication how this can accomplished in a straightforward fashion. The procedure used here is a significant simplification over previous approaches, and enables the chromatographer to do so without complex algebra or additional experiments.

N-(4-硝基苯基)马来酰亚胺分子结构、光谱和热力学性质的理论研究

N-(4-硝基苯基)马来酰亚胺是一种新合成的NPMI类化合物，在B3LYP/6-311++G**水平对N-(4-硝基苯基)马来酰亚胺分子进行几何结构优化和频率、热力学性质计算，得到它的红外光谱、拉曼光谱和不同温度下的热力学性质。结果显示，该分子中两个C=O与五元环在同一个平面内，苯环上硝基中的N-O与六元环也在同一个平面内，五元环与六元环呈129.6的二面角，整个分子不具有对称性；热容、熵、焓等热力学性质与温度之间存在很好的函数关系式。     

MEASURING OPTIMAL CONNECTIONS IN LARGE NETWORKS: A NEW ALGORITHM AND ITS APPLICATIONS

Researchers have identified several problems in measuring the strongest path connecting pairs of actors in valued graphs. To address these problems, it has been proposed that average path value be used to indicate optimal connections between dyads. However, a lack of proper computer algorithm and its implementation has hindered a wide-range application of the proposed solution. In this paper we develop a computer algorithm and fully implement it with four JAVA programs, which are available on request. These programs produce an optimal connection matrix, which is subsequently inputted into UCINET for further multidimensional scaling and clustering analysis. We demonstrate this procedure with a data matrix containing 38 organizations in information technology. We discuss the methodological implications of the application of our algorithm to future social network studies.     

The dynamics of Japanese and American interpersonal events: Behavioral settings versus personality traits

Psychologists and sociologists have had a long and keen interest in whether situations or personality traist are the predominant determinants of behavior. This affect control study and two earlier ones (Smith et al., 1994, 2001) are consistent with recent psychological research indicating that East Asians are more influenced by situational influences and less by internal dispositions than Americans. This implies that Japanese are less likely than Americans to invoke correspondence biases like the fundamental attribution error. The results argue for a gendered Generalized Other in Japan. Still, the Japanese setting equations share fundamental commonalities with their American cousins such as relatively large stability and behavioral morality effects.
