 A dielectric imaging technique with a scanning dielectric microscope was applied to polystyrene microcapsules in an aqueous environment to study the electrical properties of individual ones. The dielectric images obtained over a frequency range from 10 kHz to 10 MHz showed frequency dependence, which indicated dielectric dispersion (or relaxation) due to interfacial polarization or the build up of charge on the boundaries between the microcapsule shell and the aqueous phases. The dielectric dispersion was analyzed based on an equivalent electrical circuit model and a shell-sphere model in which a spherical core is covered with an insulating shell. Sulfonated polystyrene latex particles were prepared by a two-stage shot-growth emulsion polymerization process in the absence of emulsifier. Sodium styrene sulfonate (NaSS) was used as an ionic co-monomer to produce a series of latex particles with the same particle size but with different surface charge densities. The electrophoretic mobility of this functionalized model colloid was studied in the presence of various types of inorganic electrolytes. The e curves of these latexes exhibit a pronounced maximum at high electrolyte concentrations: 5·10–2 M for 11 electrolytes and 10–2 M for 21 and 12 electrolytes. When a 31 electrolyte (LaCl3) was used, the electrophoretic mobility changed to positive values at high concentration due to the specific adsorption of lanthanum species. The experimental results for the electrokinetic characterization of these sulfonated polystyrene model colloids suggest that the surface of the particles is covered by a layer of oligomers or polymer chains which shift the shear plane toward the bulk solution, increasing the anomalous surface conductance of the polystyrene microsphere-electrolyte solution interface.  相似文献

A new fluorinated polystyrene bearing a p-sulbstiuted perfluoro[1-(2-fluorosulfonylethoxy)]ethyl group was synthesized via one-electron oxidation of polystyrene by perfluoro[2-(2-fluorosulfonylethoxy)]propionyl peroxide at different peroxide to polystyrene molar ratios.The yield of perfluoroalkylation decreases with the increase of the reactant molar ratio.The modified polymer has been characterized by various techniques:the ring pefluoro[1-(2-fluorosulfonylethoxy)]ethylation has been proved by FT-IR and ^19FNMR;the X-ray photoelectron spectra(XPS) show the maximum binding energy of F18,O18,C18(two kinds of carbon atoms,namely C-H and C-F)and S2p,respectively; desulfonylation of the fluorinated polystyrene appearing at 217℃ has been found by its thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).The determinations of contact angle,refractive index and glass transition temperature of the modified polymer have disclosed that when the contact angle increases with the increase of the molar ratio,the refractive index and glass transition temperature decrease.The polydispersity values indicate that the degradation of the polymer chains did not occur during the reaction.  相似文献

Amphoteric polystyrene latex colloids were prepared by the emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization of styrene. Two co-monomers, methacrylic acid (MA) (anionic) and dimethyl aminoethyl methacrylate (DMAM) (cationic) were used to promote the amphoteric nature of the resultant surfaces. Parameters such as particle size and the isoelectric point (IEP) were measured as a function of polymerization recipe. Particle size decreased with increasing initiator concentration according to the equation: log [d w]=–0.67 log [I] + 0.316 whered w is the weight average particle diameter andI is the concentration of initiator (potassium persulphate).The particle size also decreased with increasing temperature, increasing pH and addition of surfactant. Particle size was unaffected by the methacrylic acid content. The isoelectric point pH was decreased on decreasing initiator concentration and on increasing methacrylic acid content.The polymerization pathway was deduced to involve the cationic DMAM during the initiation phase and to involve the anionic MA as well as styrene, during the growth stage. A full polymerization pathway involving the formation of oligomeric DMAM micelles was postulated.  相似文献

磺化聚苯乙烯(SPS)/聚吡咯(PPy)复合膜是通过毗咯单体在SPS基体中原位聚合方法制成的.用FTIR研究SPS/PPy复合膜分子间的相互作用,特别是SPS中SO3阴离子在1200cm-1不对称伸缩振动港带的分裂,说明了聚吡咯是以阳离子的形式作用于SPS中SO3阴离子上,产生强的离子-离子相互作用.同时还研究了在复合过程中,引起SPS基体的微区结构与性能的变化.SPS由于吡咯单体的胀入和聚合,导致了SPS微相分离,复合膜在动态力学性能测试中出现了两个Tg转变,分别在124和145℃.  相似文献

The syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) δ form was crystallized from mixtures with different compositions of p‐chlorotoluene–chlorobenzene (p‐CT–CB) and p‐chlorotoluene–1,1,2‐trichloroethane (p‐CT–TCE). The presence of the δ form and TTGG helical conformation was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) analyses. In sPS/p‐CT–CB and sPS/p‐CT–TCE δ‐form membranes, the relative absorbance (RA) of the p‐chlorotoluene (p‐CT) solvent peak was very high even at very low concentrations of p‐CT in comparison with the RA of higher concentrations of chlorobenzene (CB) or 1,1,2‐trichloroethane (TCE) in the mixtures. However, the RAs of both CB and TCE solvent peaks decreased with decreasing concentrations of CB and TCE in the mixtures. A negligible decrease in the RA of the TTGG helical content was observed with a decreasing concentration of CB or TCE. The WAXD results showed that the 2θ peak positions of the [010] and [ 10] planes of the sPS/p‐CT–CB and sPS/p‐CT–TCE δ‐form membranes appeared in the same position and were almost equal to those of the sPS–p‐CT δ‐form membrane. The mesophases of the sPS–p‐CT [p‐CT (A‐M)] and sPS–TCE [TCE (A‐M)] membranes were used for the sorption studies with different concentrations of various solvents. The sorption amount of aromatic solvents by both p‐CT (A‐M) and TCE (A‐M) mesophase membranes was higher than that of aliphatic solvents, regardless of the size, shape, and nature of the molecular cavity. The 2θ peak of the [010] plane of the sPS membranes slowly approached the original δ‐form value when the sPS mesophase membranes were immersed in various solvents of different concentrations for 48 h. The shifting of the 2θ peak of the [010] plane to the original δ form depended on the nature and concentration of the immersion solvents. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of molecular chirality in thermotropic mesomorphic H-bonded polymeric systems has not really been investigated so far. Therefore, five new chiral mesogenic diamides have been prepared and described. Besides more ordered mesophases, the enantiomers exhibit a chiral nematic polymorphism detected by microcalorimetry and probably corresponding to different modes of chiral coiling to give these singular twisted nematic phases.  相似文献

The surface grafting of attapulgite (ATP) with polystyrene (PS) was established via a simultaneous reverse and normal initiation atom transfer radical polymerization (SR&NIATRP). 4‐(chloromethyl)phenyltrimethoxysilane (CMPTMS) chemical bounded on the surface of ATP (ATP‐Cl, Cl‐I) was prepared via one‐step self‐assembly. SR&NI ATRP of styrene was conducted using CuCl2 complex tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine (Me6‐TREN) as the catalytic system, initiated by 2,2‐azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) and ATP‐Cl. FT‐IR, XRD, XPS, TGA and TEM data were consistent with the grafting of benzyl chloride groups and PS chains on ATP surface. The controllability of polymerization was investigated by the kinetics behavior under different molar ratio of AIBN and CuCl2. The obtained polymer possessed a uniform distribution of molecular weights with a lower polydispersity index of 1.2~1.4. The relationship between polymerization on the surface of ATP and in solution was discussed in detail based on TGA data of hybrid particles and GPC trace of free polymer in solution. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
