A sex-age-structured population model with density dependence in the conversion of reproductive potentials into zygotes and in first year survivorship is described. The model has two equilibria; the smallest is mathematically unstable, and the origin and the larger equilibrium are locally stable. The population can thus go extinct for certain initial states, or if the two equilibria coincide. The ratio between the two equilibria can be regarded as a measure of the risk of extinction, since it is related to the chance that detrimental environmental conditions will cause the population to enter the region of attraction of the origin. In simple monoecious models, recovery to former levels is only possible provided that the population is not driven to extinction before harvesting effort is reduced. Ratios between the two unexploited equilibria, and between the stable unexploited equilibrium and the recruitment level at which the two equilibria coincide are given solely in terms of the degree of density dependence in the model. I show that the harvesting strategy which maximizes the equilibrium yield has a four age form, involving harvesting of at most two male and two female age classes. Out of ten commercial Pacific groundfish species, knife-edge selectivity sustainable yields of eight are at least 90% of ultimate sustainable yield (USY). With no effort restrictions, the range of lengths at first capture which achieve more than 60% of USY is narrow. When one of the sexes is not harvested, sustainable yield is between 20% and 80% of USY, but lowest when females are not harvested.  相似文献

Quantitative analysis of steroids and their metabolites in urine samples calls for increased speed of sample clean-up, of the derivatization procedure, and of separation. A fast procedure for sample pretreatment, which can be performed within 8 hours, is introduced and evaluated. It is shown that use of fast pretreatment in combination with narrow bore columns, which are compatible with existing instrumentation, can considerably increase, laboratory throughput. The effect of different sample introduction techniques (e.g. splitless, on-column, and moving needle) on column efficiency and resolution is demonstrated and discussed.  相似文献

Previous reports from our laboratory have shown that thyroid hormones induce changes in the fluidity and permeability of phospholipid bilayers and modify the transmembrane dipolar organization according to their iodine content. The interactions of T2, T3, and T4 with a model membrane of dilauroylphosphatidylcholine in the liquid‐crystalline phase were analyzed by confocal Raman spectroscopy. Insights into the nature of the hormone effects on the membrane properties, as well as the structural adaptations of the hormones in response to the lipid environment were derived from the spectral changes. The series of progressive iodine substituents on the ring‐β allowed us to correlate the hormone effects according to the number and the orientation of the iodine atoms. Polypropylene hollow fibers as the adsorbent were directly filled into a polyetheretherketone tube for in‐tube solid‐phase microextraction. The surface properties of hollow fibers were characterized by a scanning electron microscope. Combined with high performance liquid chromatography, the extraction tube showed good extraction performance for five environmental estrogen hormones. To achieve high analytical sensitivity, four important factors containing sampling volume, sampling rate, content of organic solvent in sample, and desorption time were investigated. Under the optimum conditions, an online analysis method was established with wide linear range (0.03–20 µg/L), good correlation coefficients (≥0.9998), low limits of detection (0.01–0.05 µg/L), low limits of quantitation (0.03–0.16 µg/L), and high enrichment factors (1087–2738). Relative standard deviations (n = 3) for intraday (≤3.6%) and interday (≤5.1%) tests proved the stable extraction performance of the material. Durability and chemical stability of the extraction tube were also investigated, relative standard deviations of all analytes were less than 5.8% (n = 3), demonstrating the satisfactory stability. Finally, the method was successfully applied to detect estrogens in real samples.  相似文献
