Dynamic boundary stabilization of a Reissner–Mindlin plate with Timoshenko beam

This paper is concerned with well‐posedness results for a mathematical model for the transversal vibrations of a two‐dimensional hybrid elastic structure consisting of a rectangular Reissner–Mindlin plate with a Timoshenko beam attached to its free edge. The model incorporates linear dynamic feedback controls along the interface between the plate and the beam. Classical semigroup methods are employed to show the unique solvability of the coupled initial‐boundary‐value problem. Two-Frequency Autowave Processes in the Complex Ginzburg–Landau Equation

We study the complex Ginzburg–Landau equation with zero Neumann boundary conditions on a finite interval and establish that this boundary problem (with suitably chosen parameters) has countably many stable two-dimensional self-similar tori. The case of periodic boundary conditions is also investigated.     

Global Smooth Solutions of the Equations of a Viscous,Heat - Conducting,One - Dimensional Gas with Density - Dependent Viscosity

We consider initial boundary value problems for the equations of the one-dimensional motion of a viscous, heat-conducting gas with density-dependent viscosity that decreases (to zero) with decreasing density. We prove that if the viscosity does not decrease to zero too rapidly, then smooth solutions exist globally in time.     

Exact boundary observability for 1‐D quasilinear wave equations

By means of a direct and constructive method based on the theory of semi‐global C² solution, the local exact boundary observability and an implicit duality between the exact boundary controllability and the exact boundary observability are shown for 1‐D quasilinear wave equations with various boundary conditions. A complete boundary integral formulation for compressible Navier–Stokes equations

A complete boundary integral formulation for compressible Navier–Stokes equations with time discretization by operator splitting is developed using the fundamental solutions of the Helmholtz operator equation with different order. The numerical results for wall pressure and wall skin friction of two‐dimensional compressible laminar viscous flow around airfoils are in good agreement with field numerical methods. Plasticity field adjacent to faces of asperities on a rotating roll after initial indentation into a half-space

The plastic deformation field near the horizontal surface of a half space of perfectly plastic material associated with an indenting rotating rigid tooth is studied using slip line theory. The tooth is one of many on a roll surface and indents first into the half-space material and then rotates about the roll center. A slip line field is proposed for the deforming plastic region and a solution scheme is outlined. The emphasis is on determining the shape of the deforming region, especially that of the free surface. The study has a potential application in roughness transfer in metal forming processing.     

Comparison of the boundary theory with the contact rule of phase regions and Gupta’s method

The phase boundary theory and the contact rule of phase regions are compared, and some weaknesses of the latter are manifested. The comparison between the Gupta’s method and the boundary theory method for constructing multicomponent isobaric sections is also presented.     

On existence and regularity of solutions for 2‐D micropolar fluid equations with periodic boundary conditions

In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a global solution for 2‐D micropolar fluid equation with periodic boundary conditions. Then we restrict ourselves to the autonomous case and show the existence of a global attractor. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
