In this paper we study the steady state deflection and reverse snapping phenomenon of a spinning non-flat disk. Both the initial and the deformed shapes of the disk are allowed to have axisymmetrical and unsymmetrical components. For the analysis of a rotating axisymmetrical disk, we conclude that there is no need to include the unsymmetrical assumed modes in the solution because all the unsymmetrical steady state deformations are unstable. In addition, the stability of the axisymmetrical positions will not be affected by the inclusion of the unsymmetrical assumed modes. In the case when the initial shape of the disk contains a dominant axisymmetrical component and a smaller unsymmetrical component, attention is focused on the effect of this unsymmetrical component on the overall deformation and stability of the spinning disk. It is found that the unsymmetrical component with one nodal diameter tends to slightly defer the occurrence of the reverse snapping phenomenon. On the other hand, all other unsymmetrical components with more than one nodal diameter tend to reduce dramatically the reverse snapping speed. Experiment is conducted on a non-flat brass disk containing an axisymmetrical component and an unsymmetrical component with two nodal diameters. Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the oceans is one of the largest dynamic reservoirs of carbon on earth, comparable in size to the atmospheric reservoir of carbon (as CO2) in the atmosphere, or to the amount of carbon in all terrestrial and aquatic biota. The concerted efforts of earth scientists, atmospheric scientists, and biologists who study global biogeochemical cycles and the earth's climate have yielded a rather detailed understanding of carbon in the atmosphere and in biota. Marine dissolved organic matter (DOM) is far less well characterized, principally because it exists as a highly diluted mixture of perhaps millions of organic compounds in a highly saline aqueous solution. Prior to 2007, only around 1/3 of marine DOM was typically recovered from seawater for research purposes, regardless of the method of isolation. In 2007, reverse osmosis (RO) and electrodialysis (ED) were coupled to achieve recoveries of 64–93% of marine DOM. The level of residual salts in the concentrated samples, however, still precluded the characterization of marine DOM by solid-state NMR, mass spectrometry, or even elemental analysis. This paper describes a major improvement to the RO/ED method, in which pulsed ED is used (at sea) to reach roughly 100-fold greater removal of salts compared to non-pulsed ED while maintaining comparable recoveries of DOM. 相似文献

A number of global optimisation algorithms rely on the value of the Lipschitz constant of the objective function. In this paper we present a stochastic method for estimating the Lipschitz constant. We show that the largest slope in a fixed size sample of slopes has an approximate Reverse Weibull distribution. Such a distribution is fitted to the largest slopes and the location parameter used as an estimator of the Lipschitz constant. Numerical results are presented. 相似文献

The growth kinetics for AgI nanoparticles formed in the solutions of water/AOT reverse micelles in n-hexane, n-octane, n-decane, and n-dodecane were investigated. In small micelles, the rate of nanoparticles growth was found to be independent of the type of solvent, while in large micelles the growth rate grew with increasing length of solvent molecules. Clusters combine the advantages of organic molecules and inorganic nanomaterials, which are promising alternatives for optoelectronic applications. Nonetheless, recently emerged cluster light-emitting diodes require further excited state optimization of cluster emitters, especially to reduce population of the cluster-centered triplet quenching state (3CC). Here we report that redox-active ligands enhance reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) of Cu4I4 cluster for triplet-to-singlet conversion, and thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) host can provide an external RISC channel. It indicates that the complementarity between TADF host and cluster in RISC transitions gives rise to 100 % triplet conversion efficiency and complete singlet exciton convergence, rendering 100-fold increased singlet radiation rate constant and tenfold decreased triplet non-radiation rate constant. We achieve a photoluminescence quantum yield of 99 % and a record external quantum efficiency of 29.4 %. 相似文献

This paper describes a systematic study of biofouling in reverse osmosis process using model bacteria of Pseudomonas fluorescens and employing a sodium chloride tracer response technique for fouling characterization. It was found that the growth of biofilm at constant flux following initial bacteria colonization of the membrane surface increased with imposed flux. The rationale was that biofilm growth was nutrient dependent, where the nutrient availability at the membrane wall was controlled by the magnitude of concentration polarization, which is driven by flux. The salt tracer response showed that the biofouling comprised a hydraulic resistance and induced an enhanced osmotic pressure phenomenon; known as the biofilm enhanced osmotic pressure (BEOP) effect [M. Herzberg, M. Elimelech, Biofouling of reverse osmosis membranes: role of biofilm-enhanced osmotic pressure, Journal of Membrane Science 295 (2007) 11–20], due to hindered back diffusion of solutes through the tortuous path of the heterogeneous structure of the biofilm.
