A first-principles study of surface and subsurface H on and in Ni(1 1 1): diffusional properties and coverage-dependent behavior

Periodic, self-consistent, density functional theory (GGA-PW91) calculations are performed for both surface and subsurface atomic hydrogen on and in Ni(1 1 1). At a low coverage (θ=0.25 ML), the binding energies (BEs) of a hydrogen atom in surface fcc, subsurface octahedral (first layer), and subsurface octahedral (second layer) sites are −2.89, −2.18, and −2.11 eV, respectively. The activation energy barriers for hydrogen diffusion from the surface to the first subsurface layer and from the first to the second subsurface layer are estimated to be 0.88 and 0.52 eV, respectively. In the entire coverage range studied, hydrogen occupies surface fcc and hcp sites and subsurface octahedral sites. In addition, the magnitude of the BE per hydrogen atom and the magnetization of the nickel slabs both decrease as hydrogen coverage increases. Vibrational frequencies of hydrogen at various surface and subsurface sites are calculated and are in reasonable agreement with experimental data. A phase stability calculation with a 2 × 2 surface unit cell shows that a p(2 × 2)-2H overlayer structure (θ=0.5 ML) and a p(1 × 1)-1H structure (θ=1.0 ML) are stable at low hydrogen pressures, in agreement with numerous experimental results. A very large increase in pressure is required to populate subsurface sites. After such an increase occurs, the first subsurface layer is filled completely.

本文运用遗传算法，根据河北省１９８５—１９９０年春节期间每小时用电量的统计数字，建立了非线性回归模型（Ｇｏｍｐｅｒｔｄｚ），结果表明，遗传算法性能良好，可望成为电力系统各种非线性模型辨识的有效手段。

本文以秦彩俑表面色彩为研究对象,通过光照实验与色彩变化的色度测量,分析了光照引起彩俑颜料色变的规律,为秦彩俑这一大型重点文物的色彩保护提供了科学理论依据.

Traces of functions with a dominating mixed derivative in ℝ<Superscript>3</Superscript>

We investigate traces of functions, belonging to a class of functions with dominating mixed smoothness in ℝ³, with respect to planes in oblique position. In comparison with the classical theory for isotropic spaces a few new phenomenona occur. We shall present two different approaches. One is based on the use of the Fourier transform and restricted to p = 2. The other one is applicable in the general case of Besov-Lizorkin-Triebel spaces and based on atomic decompositions.     

A model of adsorption at liquid-solid interface involving association in the bulk phase

A model of monolayer adsorption of binary liquid mixtures on homogeneous and heterogeneous solid surfaces involving association of one component in the bulk phase is discussed. Suitable model calculations, illustrating association and heterogeneity effects, have been performed according to an equation derived for adsorption excess. This equation has been examined by using the experimental data of adsorption of alcohols from benzene andn-heptane on silica gel.

Adsorptionsmodell für die Grenzfläche Feststoff-Flüssigkeit unter Berücksichtigung der Assoziation in der Flüssigkeitsphase

Zusammenfassung Es wird ein Adsorptionsmodell binärer, flüssiger Mischungen an homogenen und heterogenen Oberflächen von Feststoffen unter Beachtung der Assoziation eines der Bestandteile in der Flüssigkeitsphase diskutiert. Mit der aus dem Oberflächenüberschuß abgeleiteten Gleichung wurden entsprechende Modellberechnungen durchgeführt, die die mit Assoziation und Heterogenität verbundenen Effekte illustrieren. Die Gleichung wurde für die experimentellen Daten der Alkoholadsorption aus Benzol undn-Heptan an Kieselgel überprüft.

     

Palladacycles in catalysis - a critical survey

The application of palladacycles as catalysts for cross-coupling and similar reactions is reviewed. In the majority of cases palladacycles are likely to serve as a source of highly active but unstable zero-valent palladium species. In this respect the palladacycles resemble the so-called phosphine-free catalysts. The advantages and limitations of palladacycle catalysts are discussed.     

Tribological properties of ormosil coatings

Transparent plastics are not scratch resistant. The damage leads to a loss of optical properties. Coatings prepared using either tetraethoxysilane or colloidal silica particles embedded in glymo is a way to avoid these disadvantages. Tribological experiments are carried out to better understand the surface modification due to a sliding friction. It is shown that the wear track is not directly related to usual mechanical properties such as Young's modulus and the hardness of the coating. The different stages leading to material loss are discussed in term of particle removal and debris circulation (accumulation or elimination) through the friction track. The mechanical properties of the film combined with the film to substrate adhesion are expected to play an important role as it can be deduced from results obtained as a function of the coating composition.
