Centurion — a revolutionary irradiator

The facility characteristics for irradiation of red meat and poultry differ significantly from those of medical disposables. This paper presents the results of the market requirement definition which resulted in an innovative conceptual design. The process and the “state of the art tools” used to bring this abstract idea into a proof of concept are presented.     

Compact diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 intracavity-doubled red laser at 671 nm

A design of diode-pumped high efficiency Nd:YVO₄/LBO laser with a compact linear cavity was reported. Employing a type-II noncritical phase-matched LBO crystal, we generated 520 mW of 671 nm in single transverse mode at 6 W of incident pump power, the optical conversion efficiency being 8.7%.     

The cultural Red King effect

Why do minority groups tend to be discriminated against when it comes to situations of bargaining and resource division? In this article, I explore an explanation for this disadvantage that appeals solely to the dynamics of social interaction between minority and majority groups—the cultural Red King effect (Bruner, 2017). As I show, in agent-based models of bargaining between groups, the minority group will tend to get less as a direct result of the fact that they frequently interact with majority group members, while majority group members meet them only rarely. This effect is strengthened by certain psychological phenomenon—risk aversion and in-group preference—is robust on network models, and is strengthened in cases where preexisting norms are discriminatory. I will also discuss how this effect unifies previous results on the impacts of institutional memory on bargaining between groups.     

Insight into Amyloid Formation Using Congo Red as the Electrochemical Probe

The amyloid‐β (Aβ) aggregation pathway is an important target for the discovery of drugs that can prevent or delay the onset of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The electrochemistry of Congo Red (CR) represents a particularly promising tool for screening of Aβ‐binding therapeutics in a rapid and cost‐effective format. The results of the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) measurements were confirmed using simultaneous UV‐vis analysis of the same incubated Aβ samples. The early changes in the electrochemical signals were attributed to the interaction of the Aβ oligomers with CR. The electrochemical approach, in principle, allowed monitoring small molecule‐Aβ interactions on the time scale of aggregation.

《红楼梦》以大观园为核心场景,以贾宝玉为主人公,以宝黛之恋为贯穿全书的红线。本文从大观园、贾宝玉和宝黛之恋三个意象层面探讨《红楼梦》的美学意蕴。《红楼梦》在虚实交融的叙事中,以极切实又极奇幻的笔法,展示了一出以贾宝玉为中心意象的凄美而炽烈的人生戏剧。在熔铸多元文化精神的前提下,对庄子哲学的生命精神的阐发,是《红楼梦》的美学意蕴之真谛。本文认为,阅读《红楼梦》,解析贾宝玉,都须从反面−即庄子哲学的“无用之用”−着眼。这无用之用,就是自我生命的真实和自由,扩大讲,就是世界的生机和无限。     

Benzothiadiazole-based dyes that emit red light in solution,solid, and liquid state

In this paper, we report the preparation and red-light-emitting behavior of benzothiadiazole–tris(alkyloxy)phenylethene dyes. In solution, we observed an efficient red light emission with high fluorescence quantum yields (up to 0.78). With increase in solvent polarity, the emission bands shifted to longer wavelengths accompanied by a large Stokes shift of up to 152 nm. A moderate fluorescence quantum yield of 0.52 could be achieved even in the polar solvent dimethylformamide. Red light emission with good fluorescence quantum yields (up to 0.50) was also observed in the bulk solid, liquid, and film state.     

Bestimmung von Arsen in Blei und Bleilegierungen

Zusammenfassung Es wird ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung von g/g- bis mg/g-Gehalten Arsen in Blei und Bleilegierungen beschrieben. Das Arsen wird dazu mit NaBH₄ als AsH₃ aus der Probenlösung ausgetrieben und atomabsorptions-spektrometrisch in einer geheizten Quarzküvette bestimmt. Durch geeignete Arbeitsbedingungen werden Störungen durch die Matrix ausgeschaltet. Für den gesamten Arbeitsbereich beträgt die relative Standardabweichung etwa 3% (N=12); die Nachweisgrenze (3 -Grenze) wurde zu 0,1 g/g As ermittelt.

Determination of arsenic in lead and lead alloys

Summary A method is described for the determination of g/g to mg/g concentrations of As in lead and lead alloys. For that purpose arsenic is blown out from the sample solutions as AsH₃ by use of NaBH₄ and determined by AAS in a heated quartz cuvette. Using suitable conditions disturbances caused by the matrix are eliminated. The relative standard deviation over the whole working range is about 3% (N=12); the detection limit (3 ) was found to be 0.1 g/g As.

     

Application de la Spectroscopie Infra Rouge à L'étude du Comportement Thermique de la Cellulose Partie I.

In this work, we describe and evaluate the use of the Fourier transform infra red (FTIR) spectroscopy in DRIFT mode (diffuse reflectance infra red Fourier transform) in an environmental device to follow the functional evolution of cellulose during thermal treatments. The potentialities (and difficulties) of the technic are given. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

盆地红层嵌岩桩荷载传递性状试验研究

湘浏盆地内广泛分布着内陆湖相沉积的白垩系至第三系红层软岩,具有成岩差、易风化崩解等特性,其嵌岩桩的实际工作性状与《建筑桩基技术规范》（JGJ94-94）规定不尽相同。为研究红层嵌岩桩的承载性能、桩身轴力传递规律、桩侧阻力和端阻力的发挥性状,对４根人工挖孔灌注桩进行了单桩静力载荷试验,分别采用滑动测微计和应变计来测试桩身轴力的变化。结果表明,红层嵌岩桩表现为端承摩擦桩特性,Q-s曲线呈缓变型;桩身轴力传递规律和桩侧阻力的发挥与覆盖层厚度、桩长、桩周土性质密切相关;由于红层具有较强的结构性,发挥极限侧阻所需位移仅为2~6mm,测试得到的极限侧阻力远高于规范值,表现出强化效应,使得红层嵌岩桩具有相当大的承载能力,但端阻力和侧阻力并非同步发挥。设计时应采用承载力和变形控制,参数取值应符合桩的荷载传递规律。     

红粘土的微结构及其概化模型

本文论述红粘土的物质组成和微结构特征,在此基础上提出了红粘土微结构的概化模型,并根据这种模型对红粘土的工程特性进行了探讨。
