Prior decisions and experiences about mathematics of students in bridging courses

We report on the survey responses of 51 students attending mathematics bridging courses at a major Australian university, investigating what mathematics, if any, these students had studied in the senior years of schooling and what factors affected their decisions about the level of mathematics chosen. Quantitative findings are augmented by qualitative responses to open-ended questions in the survey as well as excerpts from follow-up emails. The findings show that the major reasons for students taking lower levels of mathematics in senior year(s), or dropping mathematics, include finding enough time for non-mathematics subjects, confidence in mathematical capability, advice and maximizing potential ranking for university admission.     

Classroom note: A simple proof of an interesting Fibonacci generalization

It is reasonably well known that the ratios of consecutive terms of a Fibonacci series converge to the golden ratio. This note presents a simple, complete proof of an interesting generalization of this result to a whole family of ‘precious metal ratios’.     

Dynamic allocation of investments promotes cooperation in spatial public goods game

In this paper, we introduce a dynamic allocation investment mechanism into the spatial public goods game. In the model, if a cooperator i$i$ collects more payoffs from one group centered on the player j$j$ in the last round, he will put more investments to the group in the next round. The intensity of investment is controlled by a tunable parameter α$\alpha$. Simulation results show that the emergence of cooperation is remarkably promoted, and a larger α$\alpha$ induces a higher cooperation level. These interesting phenomena are then extensively explained by pairwise investments, average payoffs and evolution snapshots.     

Power-law decay of the view times of scientific courses on YouTube

The temporal power-law decay is one class of interesting decay processes, usually indicating a long-time correlation and benefiting for a system to perform functions in various time-scales. In this work, I collect the data of the view times versus lectures of some scientific courses on YouTube, according to some special principles. These data can reflect the dynamical property of the spontaneous learning behavior, influenced by the decay of learning interest. The view times versus lectures show an obviously power-law decay process. The power approximates to 1, a universal constant. This finding brings the learning process into the interesting power-law family. It will be of interest in the fields of the human dynamics, psychology and education.     

大学物理理论课与实验课的现状 问题与整合

针对目前高校物理教学的现状和问题,结合对本校现状的调查,分析了理论课与实验课脱节等问题的成因,并提出了相应的整合措施.     

An M/G/1 unreliable retrial queue with two phases of service and Bernoulli admission mechanism

This paper deals with the steady state behaviour of an M^X/G/1 retrial queue with an additional second phase of optional service and unreliable server where breakdowns occur randomly at any instant while serving the customers. Further concept of Bernoulli admission mechanism is also introduced in the model. This model generalizes both the classical M^X/G/1 retrial queue subject to random breakdown and Bernoulli admission mechanism as well as M^X/G/1 queue with second optional service and unreliable server. We carry out an extensive analysis of this model.     

新课程高考化学选考题学生答题的初步调查与思考——基于新课标全国卷

通过调查与思考,得出新课程高考选考题学生选择及作答的结果与学校开设选修课程模块、试题的难易程度、学生作答时间多少、学生的学习能力等4个因素相关。建议学校应在开足选修课程模块的前提下,赋予学生表现出其主体的选择性,从而切合新课程选修多模块的设计思路及新课程改革的核心理念"一切为了每一位学生的发展"。     

信息化网络环境下高职应用型课程翻转课堂的教学设计与实施——以“中药制剂检验技术”为例

以"中药制剂检验技术"课程为例,在课前、课内、课后3个阶段,从理论和实践的角度探讨了如何利用N-CLASS网络平台构建和实施高职药品检验类课程的翻转课堂。结果表明,在药品检测类课程中,利用信息技术构建的翻转课堂不仅能够激发学生学习的主动性和学习兴趣,同时也培养了独立学习和协作学习的能力,明显提升了教学效果。     

Evolution of cooperation in the spatial public goods game with the third-order reputation evaluation

In this letter, in order to deeply explore the role of individual reputation in the evolutionary game dynamics, we present a new third-order reputation evaluation model to discuss the evolution of cooperation in the spatial public goods game. In the current model, we should not only consider the strategy (cooperation, C or defection, D) of a focal player, but also take his own reputation and his opponent's reputation status into account. Among them, the individual reputation will be divided into being good and bad according to the specified threshold, and the good player will be endowed with the more influential strategy transfer ability, which further helps to create the clusters of cooperative and good players within the population and then fosters the cooperation. A large plethora of experimental simulation results indicate that four rules under the third-order reputation mechanism can lead to the promotion of cooperation when compared to the traditional public goods game model. The current work is conductive to a better understanding of the persistence and emergence of collective cooperation in real-world systems.
