The purpose of this paper is to describe a method to determine whether a bivariate polynomial with rational coefficients is irreducible when regarded as an element in , the ring of polynomials with coefficients from the field of Laurent series in with rational coefficients. This is achieved by computing certain associated Puiseux expansions, and as a result, a polynomial-time complexity bound for the number of bit operations required to perform this irreducibility test is computed.

A novel technique for collimation testing with a circular Dammann grating is proposed. When the beam under test is incident on a one-order circular Dammann grating with limited aperture, double-humped radial rings will be generated at the back focal plane of a focusing lens. If the beam is collimated, the separation between the two rings will reach its minimal, otherwise the two rings will be apart from each other. Therefore, the degree of collimation of the tested beam can be estimated from the separation. The principle and experimental results of the method are presented. Owing to the simplicity and low cost of the method, it is a promising method for quickly checking the collimation of a laser beam. 相似文献

Many proficiency tests are operated with a consensus value derived from the participants’ results. Apart from technical issues,
one of the reasons often mentioned is that proficiency tests operated with consensus values would be cheaper than those using
reference values obtained from a priori characterisation measurements. The economy of a proficiency test must of course be balanced by the need of the participants,
and the quality of the comparison in general. The proficiency tests selected in this study had both a reference value and
a consensus value, one of which was used for assessing the performance of the participating laboratories. In this work, both
a technical and an economical assessment of how the comparisons were operated is made. From the evaluation, it follows that
usually the use of consensus values does not necessarily reduce the costs of a proficiency test. However, frequently it may
be observed that the quality of the assessment of the laboratories is better with a reference value.

We report on the novel application of nanoscratch characterization to provide insight into the plasticity mechanisms responsible for the behaviour of composites. Accordingly, we conduct deformation characterization with nanoscratch testing (DCNT) to study the deformation behaviour of two B4C reinforced ultrafine grained Al alloy tri-modal composites with average B4C particle sizes of ~1–6?μm and ~500?nm, respectively. The assessment of the performance of learners by means of benchmark experiments is an established exercise. In practice, benchmark studies are a tool to compare the performance of several competing algorithms for a certain learning problem. Cross-validation or resampling techniques are commonly used to derive point estimates of the performances which are compared to identify algorithms with good properties. For several benchmarking problems, test procedures taking the variability of those point estimates into account have been suggested. Most of the recently proposed inference procedures are based on special variance estimators for the cross-validated performance. We introduce a theoretical framework for inference problems in benchmark experiments and show that standard statistical test procedures can be used to test for differences in the performances. The theory is based on well-defined distributions of performance measures which can be compared with established tests. To demonstrate the usefulness in practice, the theoretical results are applied to regression and classification benchmark studies based on artificial and real world data. 相似文献
