Prevalence of voice problems in teachers   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Teachers are frequently cited as experiencing a high rate of vocal dysfunction (1–7). Despite considerable research in the area of voice problems in teachers, the prevalence of voice disorders in this group is unknown. This study investigated the prevalence of self-reported voice problems in teachers using a mail survey of a simple random sample of 1168 state school teachers (preschool-Grade 12) in South Australia. As part of the survey, teachers were asked to report voice problems for the day of the survey, during the current teaching year, and during their careers. The response rate was 75%, with 16% of teachers reporting voice problems on the day of the survey, 20% reporting problems during the current teaching year, and 19% reporting problems at some time during their career. Females were twice as likely as males to report voice problems. These findings clearly indicate a need for further investigation of the causes of vocal dysfunction in teachers and for the development of educational programs aimed at preventing voice problems in this group of professional voice users.  相似文献

How to take the student as the center and the OBE (Outcomes-based Education) concept as the guide to comprehensively cultivate students' professional ability and professional quality has become an important content of applied undergraduate teaching reform. Taking "Modern Cosmetics Science and Technology" course as an example, an online and offline blended teaching implementation mode based on product development skills and literacy was constructed. It includes diversified teaching methods, immersive learning atmosphere, PBL (Problem-Based Learning) product projects, special anchors, and technical expert status conversion. If students are to develop mathematical proficiency, then mathematics teaching must both change and improve. In an effort to provide site-based professional development addressing the mathematical content and pedagogical demands that teachers encounter in reality of public schooling, many school districts are turning to elementary mathematics coaches. Knowledgeable coaches can have a significant positive impact on teachers, yet this study documents substantial variance in the amount of coaching delivered and in the nature of activity that coaches undertake within schools. Coaches are frequently responsive to the needs of individual teachers. If this support is primarily marked by shared teaching or provision of instructional materials, it may not transform either instruction or teacher knowledge. Similarly if coaches assume duties that primarily address an administrator’s needs, they will have less time to enhance a school’s mathematics program. Coaches need to engage teachers in fundamental dialogue about mathematical content, mathematical learning, and student understanding. It may be that this dialogue and the effectiveness of a coach’s work with individual teachers would benefit from a coach’s concurrent work with grade-level teams. When a coach leads a grade-level team through discussion of targeted goals and approaches, the coach may facilitate individual teacher learning while building collective learning. When coupled with the support of a principal, this partnership may foster instructional change across a school.  相似文献

Vocal fold hemorrhage can represent a disastrous and potentially career ending injury to a singer or professional voice user. The risk factors of vocal fold hemorrhage, including laryngeal trauma, phonotrauma, aspirin and nonsteroidal antiinflammatories, and hormonal imbalances are well known. We present a case of an opera singer who developed recurrent vocal fold hemorrhage associated with coumadin anticoagulation therapy. This case highlights the importance of the risk of vocal fold hemorrhage to professional singers and professional voice users and offers an alternative to long-term coumadin therapy in this select population.  相似文献

Respiratory and glottal efficiency measures were collected from a pool of 40 classically trained singers with normal larynges. All singers had ?3 years of formal classical voice training and were active professional solo classical singers. Mean flow rates were obtained from all subjects to assess glottal efficiency. Additionally, maximum phonation times and phonation quotients were obtained from a subset of the singers. Pulmonary function test data on forced expiratory volume, forced vital capacity, and forced expiratory flow were obtained for all subjects. Results were compared with published normal values, not specifically derived from trained singers, used commonly in voice laboratoires. Differences were found, suggesting the need for separate normative data to be used for evaluation of the vocal athlete.  相似文献

To effectively solve the problem of insufficient engineering ability in the experimental teaching of pharmaceutical engineering major, the engineering integrated experimental device was designed and developed based on the idea of "one main body and two wings". On the basis of this device, the "virtual and real combination, online and offline" laboratory teaching project of production simulation and unit operation engineering simulation for anti-cough drug levodropropizine was implemented. In this paper, we contrast two mathematical arguments that occurred during an algebra lesson to illustrate the importance of relevant framings in the ensuing arguments. The lesson is taken from a graduate course for elementary teachers who are enrolled in a mathematics specialist program. We use constructs associated with enthnography of argumentation to characterize the framings for warrants and backings that supported the ensuing arguments. Our findings suggest that teachers fully participated in argumentations that were framed by problem situations that were familiar to them, ones that were couched in elementary, fundamental mathematical ideas, and that these types of argumentations were arguably more productive in terms of opportunities for learning.  相似文献

Short-term administration of corticosteriods is sometimes indicated for professional voice users experiencing laryngeal edema and/or inflammation. Unfortunately, no data are available to document the effectiveness of these medications to improve phonatory parameters. We present a case report of a 32-year-old male professional singer with vocal fold edema experiencing imminent vocal demands who was prescribed a 6-day course (dose-pack) of oral methyl prednisolone. Endoscopic and stroboscopic evaluations were completed premedication and postmedication, and acoustic measures of phonatory function were obtained premedication, 3 days during the dose cycle, 5 days during the dose cycle, and 1 day postmedication. Postmedication results revealed an increase in fundamental frequency (F0) and large decreases in jitter, shimmer, long-term frequency, and amplitude variability. These corresponded with patient and evaluator perceptual measures of improved voice, and with endoscopic observations of reduced edema. The benefits and risks of corticosteroid therapy are discussed, specific to their use in the professional voice population.  相似文献

Respiratory behavior is generally considered important to voice function, the assumption being that it affects the voice source. Accurate and consistent control of the voice source is particularly important in professional operatic singing. An erratic behavior of a factor influencing voice production is incompatible with a well-controlled vocal behavior. We analyzed the consistency of inhalatory breathing patterns during singing in five professional operatic singers, using the same material as in a previous investigation of phonatory breathing patterns. Rib cage (RC) and abdominal wall (AW) movements were recorded by respiratory inductive plethysmography. Consistency was analyzed in terms of the mean correlation between three takes of ten musical phrases. Results revealed a high consistency in lung volume (LV) change and RC movements in all singers and in AW movements in three singers. Consistency across different phrases was slightly lower. The results are compatible with the idea that inhalatory behavior is important to voice source in singing. A high correlation between LV change and RC movement was found in all singers and between LV change and AW movement in three. The contribution to LV change from RC was greater than that from AW in all singers.  相似文献
