The emulsifier-free emulsion copolymerization of α-methylstyrene (AMS) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) in the presence of functional monomer acrylic acid (AA) was carried out in batch process, giving birth to sub-100 nm nanoparticles. The kinetics of polymerization was investigated. The morphology and size of particles were monitored by TEM. The influences of the functional monomer AA concentration, initiator ammonium persulfate (APS) concentration, and polymerization temperature were studied. It was found that AMS caused a drastic decrease in both the rate of polymerization and the average degree of polymerization. The activation energy calculated from Arrhenius plot turned out to be 83.6 kJ/mol. 相似文献

The equilibrium topology of an aqueous Janus emulsion of two oils, O1 and O2, with water, W, [(O1+O2)/W], is numerically evaluated with the following realistic interfacial tensions (γ): γO2/W=5 mN m−1, γO1/O2=1 mN m−1, and γO1/W varies within the range 4–5 mN m−1, which is the limiting range for stable Janus drop topology. The relative significance of the two independently pivotal factors for the topology is evaluated, that is, the local equilibrium at the line of contact between the three liquids and the volume fraction of the two dispersed liquids within the drop. The results reveal a dominant effect of the local equilibrium on the fraction of the O2 drop surface that is covered by O1. In contrast, for a constant volume of O2, the impact of the interfacial tension balance on the limit of the coverage is modest for an infinite volume of O1. Interestingly, when the O1 volume exceeds this value, an emulsion inversion occurs, and the O1 portion of the (O1+O2)/W topology becomes a continuous phase, generating a (W+O2)/O1 Janus configuration. 相似文献

In this work, the calcium phosphate nanoparticles have been produced by new reverse micro emulsion method containing β‐cyclodextrin, poly(oxyethylene)5 nonyl phenol ether and cyclohexane. Scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, fourier transform infrared spectroscope and X‐ray diffraction were used to characterize the particles. The sizes of the nanoparticles were identified between 70‐80 nm. In conclusion, these results suggested that the developed reverse micro emulsion system based nanoparticles seem to be a promising formulation for calcium phosphate nanoparticles synthesis and it has immense potential in delivery of drugs and vaccines. 相似文献

A kind of emulsifier-free latex (FL) was successfully synthesized from styrene (St) and butyl acrylate (BA) with 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid (AMPS) as a reactive emulsifier. The particle size of latex particles, stability against electrolytes, minimum film forming temperature (MFT) and water contact angle (CA) were evaluated and compared with a conventional latex (CL). Test results show that FL has larger particle size, better stability against electrolytes and lower MFT value compared with CL; higher AMPS content leads to smaller particle size and smaller water CA. 相似文献

The purpose of this work is to study the self-assembling of some synthesized thiol surfactants namely (mercaptopropane-, mercaptohexane-, mercaptooctane-, and mercaptodecane sodium sulfonate) on the fabricated gold nanoparticles. The self-assembling of these surfactants on gold nanoparticles characterized using different techniques such as FTIR spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Spectroscopic evidence suggests that the synthesized thiol surfactants have been attached to the gold nanoparticles. The effect of self-assembling of these surfactants on the size of the gold nanoparticles was studied using TEM images. The growth of the gold nanoparticles was investigated with respect to the increase of alkyl chain in the synthesized thiol surfactants. The results show that the stabilization of gold nanoparticles was affected by the increase in alkyl chain length of these surfactants. The effect of gold nanoparticles on the interfacial tension and the emulsion stability of these surfactants with crude oil was studied. 相似文献

There have been few studies on the factors that determine the overall appearance of emulsions. Optical properties are quite important in determining the perceived quality of emulsion-based products. The overall appearance of an emulsion is determined by the way that it interacts with electromagnetic radiation in the visible region of the spectrum, for example, reflection, transmission, adsorption, and scattering. These interactions are principally determined by the characteristics of emulsion droplets (size, concentration, and refractive index). The present study aims at characterizing the optical properties and rheological behaviors of water-in-oil emulsions, especially macroemulsions. There is a decrease in the absorbance spectra as increasing glycerin ratio in aqueous phase because the difference of refractive index between oil phase and aqueous phase decreased, which improved the transparency of water-in-oil emulsion. The absorbance of linear and branched surfactant emulsions were smaller than that of alkyl modified branched surfactant emulsion. Moreover the transparency of emulsions prepared with linear and branched surfactants was much clearer than that of alkyl modified branched surfactant emulsion. The absorbance spectra also showed that low polar oil attributed to the more transparent emulsion, compared with high polar or nonpolar oil. However, these kinds of oils were not helpful to prepare transparent emulsion because the appearance of these emulsions was translucent or opaque, even if polyols in aqueous phase was 30 wt%. 相似文献

Synthesized sodium N-pamitoyl amino acids were evaluated for surface and antimicrobial properties and compared with sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). Emulsion stability of the amino acid surfactants and calcium tolerance of the sodium N-palmitoyl isoleucine were better as compared to SLS. Wetting ability and foaming properties of the palmitic acid-based surfactants were inferior to SLS. N-Acyl amino acids exhibited better antibacterial activity compared to sodium salts of N-acyl amino acids and standard compounds against Staphylococcus aureus MLS-16 and Bacillus subtilis. These studies revealed that the palmitoyl amino acid surfactants can be exploited in household, skin care formulations, and industrial applications. 相似文献

Use of synthetic pesticides has resulted into health hazards, ecological imbalance, resistance in pests and environmental pollution.1 Neem oil is natural pesticide and has excellent insecticidal properties. Hence, attempts are being made to develop neem oil emulsions to be used as pesticide. Surfactants like castor‐oil based, nonyl phenol‐based, sodium lauryl sulphate, and calcium alkyl benzene sulphonate were tried to develop stable emulsions. Neem extract based emulsifiable concentrates were prepared by using methanol. Stability of emulsion as a function of type of surfactants, hydrophile‐lipophile balance (HLB) of surfactants and hardness of water was studied. The stability of 30 heavy crude oil emulsions was studied in a parallel-plate laboratory coalescer (DC field). Particularly, viscous responses and their influence on the emulsion stability measurements were investigated. In addition to highlighting previous results from the same experimental setup and discussing these based on recent experience, new results at different temperatures and volume fractions of water were presented. A new semi-empirical model for the characteristic time of the destabilization process was presented. The electrical forces were modelled with a point-dipole approximation and the hydrodynamic resistance to droplet transport was modelled with an empirical term including the logarithmic viscosity of the oil phase. The new model clearly performed much better than the previous model, particularly for very viscous crude oils. Studies of the performance of industrial electrocoalescers have showed that simple electrostatic theory can potentially explain complex separation phenomena when the resistance to the coalescence step is reduced by an efficient demulsifier. The ultimate goal is to build a model for both the laboratory setup and the industrial coalescer so that laboratory experiments can be used to predict the behavior of the industrial process. 相似文献

Experimental results indicated the contact angles in the drops of Janus emulsions formed in a one-step mixing process to be invariant within a significant range the oil volume ratios, similar to the results from microfluidics emulsification. Since this result points to a connection between the kinetically formed emulsions and the local equilibrium topology of emulsion drops, the effect of interfacial tensions on the morphology of Janus emulsions was estimated from the equilibrium interfacial tensions at the line of contact. Realistic values of the tensions revealed the limited range of these to obtain Janus drops and also offered correlation between the equilibrium entities and the curvature of the interface between the two oils. 相似文献
