Electro-optically active polymer–liquid crystal composites based on ferroelectric liquid crystals and stretched porous polyethylene films were developed. The alignment of ferroelectric liquid crystals incorporated into the porous polyethylene films with average porous diameter of around 200 nm was observed and studied. It was shown experimentally that these samples containing ferroelectric liquid crystals are flexible electro-optical films exhibiting a saturation electric field near 2·10Vm?1 and a response time of about 30 μs under the action of the saturation field. A simple theoretical model of ferroelectric liquid crystal molecules' complete reorientation in electric fields inside pores of the films has been proposed and confirmed experimentally.  相似文献

The synthesis, mesomorphic and physical properties of 14 homologous series of laterally fluorinated 4?-alkyl-4-isothiocyanatoterphenyls were described. Influence of the number of fluorine atoms and their position in the terphenyl core on the phase transition temperatures, nematic range, dielectric and optic anisotropy as well as bulk viscosity were discussed. The compounds with the most optimal properties for formulation of nematic mixtures were selected, and mixture examples with low viscosity and medium or high birefringence were presented.  相似文献

An alignment film derived from a photopolymerized self‐assembled film may be used to orient nematic liquid crystals after irradiating the film with linearly polarized UV (LPUV). A photosensitive cationic amphiphile was first synthesized containing two double bonds and which could be polymerized by UV. A layer‐by‐layer self‐assembled multilayer film was next prepared in an aqueous solution of the cationic amphiphile and poly(sodium 4‐styrenesulphonate); the UV‐Vis spectra showed that each layer of the LBL multilayer film was uniform. When the film was irradiated by LPUV, the photosensitive double bonds underwent [2+2] cycloaddition along the vector direction of LPUV. The polarized UV‐Vis absorption spectra also provided evidence that the film was anisotropic, i.e. the photopolymerization was along a certain direction. The anisotropic film was used as an alignment layer for nematic liquid crystals, and observations under a polarizing microscope indicated that the alignment of the liquid crystals was good, as expected, and that the orientation direction of the liquid crystals was always perpendicular to the electric vector of the irradiating LPUV.  相似文献

Two series of non‐symmetric banana‐shaped compounds, both with one alkyl and one alkenyl terminal tail, have been synthesized and studied. Both series were compared with the corresponding series with two saturated terminal alkyl tails. All the compounds have a bent central 1,3‐phenylene bis(4‐benzoyloxy)benzoate core; their mesophases were characterized by polarizing optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X‐ray diffraction and switching current response experiments. In all four series one of the terminal tails is varied from OC8H17 to OC16H33. The other terminal tails are OC11H23, O(CH2)9CH?=?CH2, OC10H21 and O(CH2)8CH?=?CH2. The short‐tailed compounds show monotropic or enantiotropic B1 phases and the long‐tailed compounds the B2 phase. The introduction of one terminal vinyl group slightly lowers the transition temperatures. The introduction of a second terminal vinyl group further suppresses the liquid crystalline properties. All compounds with B2 phases have layer spacings that suggest a tilt of ~45° of the bent molecules in the layers, and their switching behaviour is antiferroelectric.  相似文献

An image analysis technique in conjunction with polarising optical microscopy (POM) is proposed for assessment of the thermo-optical properties of homogeneously aligned chiral ester liquid crystals of the type ((S)-(-)-2-methylbutyl 4′-(4″-n-alkanoyloxybenzoyloxy) biphenyl-4-carboxylates, where n?=?16 or 18. Chiral ester textures are recorded as a function of temperature using POM provided with a hot-stage and a high-resolution colour camera. Temperature-dependent optical parameters, or thermo-optical properties such as optical transmission, degree of polarisation, absorption coefficient and birefringence are computed for chiral esters by analysing the texture of samples using MATLAB software. This is a simple experimental technique for observing how the optical parameters of liquid crystals change with temperature.  相似文献

Graphene oxide (GO) particles in aqueous dispersions can form liquid crystal (LC) phases at extremely low concentrations due to the extremely high aspect ratio of the flakes and noticeably, they possess an extremely large Kerr coefficient attractive for low power consumption electro‐optic devices. Reduced graphene does not easily form LC phases in water due to its hydrophobic nature but here we show that stable dispersions of reduced graphene oxide can be realized with surfactants and that they exhibit birefringence upon shearing as well as under application of electric fields. The performance of the system is largely superior to GO LC possessing longer time stability and drastically improved electro‐optic properties with an induced birefringence twice as large at the same field strength thanks to the almost recovery of graphene properties upon reduction. 针对偶氮基光敏分子存在放热速率慢和温度难以控制的难点,在分子结构设计基础上,采用氧化偶合法制备了具有固-液相变功能的4,4′-对-二正己基偶氮苯(AZO-L6).由于分子间作用力较低,偶氮苯分子呈现低熔、快异构化的特点,在发生反-顺异构化转变时大幅降低分子的熔点.固-液相变过程实现了光热能和相变焓的存储,在结构回复时同时放出储存的能量(231.8 kJ/kg),并将相变偶氮苯应用于可穿戴聚合物复合织物中.结果显示储能后的相变偶氮苯分子在蓝光(440 nm)刺激下在60 s内可将材料温度提升0.8℃,获得了具有自加热功能的可穿戴复合织物,为探索多功能自保温可穿戴装置提供了研究思路.  相似文献

Principal role of substrate types on the nonlinear optical properties of Au NP was investigated. Third harmonic generation (THG) studies were carried out for Au NP deposited on the Al-doped ZnO (AuNP/AZO) and Ga-doped ZnO (AuNP/GZO) substrates at fundamental wavelength of 20 ns Er:glass laser (generating at 1540 nm wavelength) during photostimulation by the 532 nm 15 ns laser pulses. Sizes of Au NP were 5 nm, 10 nm, 20 nm, and 30 nm. The output signal was registered at 513 nm. The photoinduced power density was increased from 0 up to 800 MW/cm2. So in our work we explore the role of the substrate on the optically stimulated non-linear optical properties during simultaneous photo stimulation near the inter-band transition. The results were studied depending on the type of substrate and the sizes of the deposited nanoparticles. The analysis was done within a framework of interaction between the photoinduced light and SPR wavelengths. Control of the photoinduced temperature was done.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Two series of novel side-chain liquid crystal (LC) polysiloxanes grafted with chiral liquid crystalline dimers containing cholesteryl mesogens were synthesised. The chemical structure and LC properties of comonomers and polymers were characterised by FTIR, 1H-NMR, DSC, TGA, POM and XRD. M1 and M2 were chiral nematic (N*) dimers, and M3 was an achiral LC monomer displaying nematic mesophase in a narrow mesomorphic temperature range, while the copolymers exhibited N* mesophase whose mesomorphic temperature ranges were much wider than those of the comonomers. Moreover, the glass transition temperatures and isotropization temperatures of the polymers all decreased with decreasing the dimer components. Reflection spectra showed that Pa series tend to attain wide-band selective reflection at long wavelengths, while Pb series were more potential at short wavelengths with narrow bandwidths. Decreasing the dimer components led the wavelength of the selective reflection to blue shift, which was an abnormal phenomenon in chiral mixture system.  相似文献
