An alternative approach was adopted to prepare colloidal crystal with polyhedral building blocks. First, monodisperse polystyrene particles that contained about 30% wt of monomer were obtained by emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization at 38 °C. These monomer-containing particles were used to prepare colloidal crystal on the surface of dispersion, before the spherical particles in the colloidal crystals underwent deformation between two quartz plates at 75 °C for 40 min by interfacial tensions, and finally the deformed particles were frozen through post-polymerization.  相似文献

The complex rheological behaviour of suspensions is very strongly affected by the details of the microstructure and the interparticle forces by which it is controlled. The difficulties involved in characterizing the microstructure, in particular during flow, caused the development of suspension rheology to lag behind that of polymer rheology. Progress in theory, experiments and simulation is rapidly changing the picture, providing opportunities for further significant developments. Possible evolutions in six areas of suspension rheology are discussed here.  相似文献

A completely forward Monte Carlo radiative transfer code has been developed with biasing techniques to efficiently solve the polarized radiative transfer equation for the full Stokes vector. The code has been adapted to accommodate plane parallel/3-D vertically/horizontally inhomogeneous scattering atmospheres in Cartesian geometries. Particular attention has been paid in stochastically treating the propagation, the emission and the scattering through anisotropic media particularly suited for clouds containing perfectly or partially oriented particles. Our modelling is very appealing because all its biasing techniques do not introduce unphysical Stokes vector. Numerical results and comparisons with benchmark tests are presented for verification.  相似文献

We present a comparison of computational results from light scattering by spherical particles with inclusions. The different simulation methods like the T-matrix method, multiple multipole method and the method of separation of variables are presented shortly. We calculate the wavelength dependence of the ratio of the linear polarization degree to extinction (polarizing efficiency) P(λ)/A(λ) from the ultraviolet to near-infrared. The prolate and oblate particles with aspect ratios from a/b=1.1 up to 10 are assumed to be rotating and partially aligned with the mechanism of paramagnetic relaxation (Davis–Greenstein). Size/shape/orientation effects are analyzed. It is found that the wavelength dependence of P(λ)/A(λ) is mainly determined by the particle composition and size whereas the values of P(λ)/A(λ) depend on the particle shape, degree and direction of alignment.  相似文献

Although the discharge flow of spherical materials has been extensively explored, the effect of particle shape on discharge is still poorly understood. The present work explores the two-dimensional discharge flow fields of noncircular particles using the soft-sphere-imbedded pseudo-hard particle model method. Rectangular particles having different aspect ratios (Ra = 1, 1.5, 2–5) and regular polygonal particles having different numbers of sides (Ns = 3–8, 10) are discharged through hopper beds having different orifice widths (Di = 40, 70.77, 99.13, 125.74, 151.13 mm). The discharge rates of differently shaped particles in different beds are consistent with Beverloo’s relation. Moreover, the flow fields are computed and evaluated to study the effects of Ra, Ns, and Di on particle discharge. The characteristics of particle–particle connections in the discharge process are evaluated according to the temporal evolution and spatial distribution of the contact points. Additionally, the effect of the initial packing on the discharge profile is investigated. The findings help clarify the discharge of noncircular particles.  相似文献
