Raw Natural Rubber (NR) quality, rather variable, is controlled according to international standards (ISO2000, etc.). Despite these standards, better characterization of this complex material is still needed to reduce feedstock waste and energy losses in the manufacturing processes. Twenty-four NR samples were studied. Their gel contents were quantified after dissolution in tetrahydrofuran. The rheological properties of the raw NR samples were measured in double-shear geometry. The Cole-Cole plot of the shear moduli (G″ = f(G′)) was used to graphically calculate an h parameter, described as an indicator of the crosslink density of a polymer. The total gel of NR was found to clearly influence the rheological properties of the material at low frequency. This study also showed that the microgel of NR accounted for 46–92% of the total gel, and cannot be neglected when investigating the influence of gel on NR properties. 相似文献

Defenders concerned about protecting multiple targets can either protect them individually (through target hardening), or collectively (through overarching protections such as border security, public health, emergency response, or intelligence). Decision makers may find it relatively straightforward to choose which targets to harden, but are likely to find it more difficult to compare seemingly incommensurate forms of protection - e.g., target hardening, versus a reduction in the likelihood of weapons being smuggled across the border. Unfortunately, little previous research has addressed this question, and fundamental research is needed to provide guidance and practical solution approaches. In this paper, we first develop a model to optimally allocate resources between target hardening and overarching protection, then investigate the factors affecting the relative desirability of target hardening versus overarching protection, and finally apply our model to a case study involving critical assets in Wisconsin. The case study demonstrates the value of our method by showing that the optimal solution obtained using our model is in some cases substantially better than the historical budget allocation. 相似文献

Well‐defined azobenzene‐containing side‐chain liquid crystalline diblock copolymers composed of poly[6‐(4‐methoxy‐azobenzene‐4′‐oxy) hexyl methacrylate] (PMMAZO) and poly(γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) (PBLG) were synthesized by click reaction from alkyne‐ and azide‐functionalized homopolymers. The alkyne‐terminated PMMAZO homopolymers were synthesized by copper‐mediated atom transfer radical polymerization with a bromine‐containing alkyne bifunctional initiator, and the azido‐terminated PBLG homopolymers were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate‐N‐carboxyanhydride in DMF at room temperature using an amine‐containing azide initiator. The thermotropic phase behavior of PMMAZO‐b‐PBLG diblock copolymers in bulk were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry and polarized light microscopy. The PMMAZO‐b‐PBLG diblock copolymers exhibited a smectic phase and a nematic phase when the weight fraction of PMMAZO block was more than 50%. Photoisomerization behavior of PMMAZO‐b‐PBLG diblock copolymers and the corresponding PMMAZO homopolymers in solid film and in solution were investigated using UV–vis. In solution, trans–cis isomerization of diblock copolymers was slower than that of the corresponding PMMAZO homopolymers. Dendron‐like poly(γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate)/linear poly(ε‐caprolactone)/dendron‐like poly(γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) triblock copolymers having 2m + 1 PBLG branches (denoted as PBLG‐Dm‐PCL‐Dm‐PBLG, m = 0, 1, 2, and 3) were for the first time synthesized by utilizing ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and click chemistry. The bifunctional azide‐terminated PCL (N3‐PCL‐N3) was click conjugated with propargyl focal point PAMAM‐typed dendrons Dm to generate Dm‐PCL‐Dm, which was then used as macroinitiator for the ROP of BLG‐NCA monomer to produce the targeted PBLG‐Dm‐PCL‐Dm‐PBLG triblock copolymers. Their molecular structures and physical properties were characterized in detail by FTIR, NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and wide angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD). The crystallinity of the central PCL segment within these copolymers is increasingly suppressed by the flanking PBLG wedges, whereas the PBLG segments gradually changed from a β‐sheet conformation to an α‐helix conformation with the increasing PBLG branches. These triblock copolymers formed thermoreversible organogels in toluene, and the dendritic topology of PBLG wedges controlled their critical gelation concentrations. The self‐assembled structure of organogels was further characterized by means of transmission electron microscopy, WAXD, and small‐angle X‐ray scattering. The fibers with flat ribbon morphology were clearly shown, and the gelation occurred through a self‐assembled nanoribbon mechanism. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A finite volume multigrid procedure for the prediction of laminar natural convection flows is presented, enabling efficient and accurate calculations on very fine grids. The method is fully conservative and uses second-order central differencing for convection and diffusion fluxes. The calculations start on a coarse (typically 10 × 10 control volumes) grid and proceed to finer grids until the desired accuracy or maximum affordable storage is reached. The computing times increase thereby linearly with the number of control volumes. Solutions are presented for the flow in a closed cavity with side walls at different temperatures and insulated top and bottom walls. Rayleigh numbers of 104, 105 and 106 are considered. Grids as fine as 640 × 640 control volumes are used and the results are believed to be accurate to within 0–01%. Second-order monotonic convergence to grid-independent values is observed for all predicted quantities. 相似文献

Styrene butadiene (SBR) and natural rubber (NR) can be used as binding matrices to control the release of zinc (Zn) which is a micro-nutrient for plants. The leaching rate of zinc in an aqueous medium depends on the concentration of zinc sulphate loaded in the two types of rubber used, the temperature of the surrounding environment and the pH of the aqueous medium. Water uptake was increased with increasing concentration of ZnSO4. The sustained release of zinc ions from the investigated formulations was prolonged for over five months. The mechanical properties of the vulcanizates were affected as the concentration of zinc sulphate changed. 相似文献
