On primitive ideals

We extend two well-known results on primitive ideals in enveloping algebras of semisimple Lie algebras, the Irreducibility theorem for associated varieties and Duflo theorem on primitive ideals, to much wider classes of algebras. Our general version of the Irreducibility Theorem says that if A is a positively filtered associative algebra such that gr A is a commutative Poisson algebra with finitely many symplectic leaves, then the associated variety of any primitive ideal in A is the closure of a single connected symplectic leaf. Our general version of the Duflo theorem says that if A is an algebra with a triangular structure, see § 2, then any primitive ideal in A is the annihilator of a simple highest weight module. Applications to symplectic reflection algebras and Cherednik algebras are discussed.     

Degrevlex Gröbner bases of generic complete intersections

In this paper, we study the Hilbert–Samuel function of a generic standard graded K-algebra

K[X₁,…,X_n]/(g₁,…,g_m)

when refined by an (ℓ)-adic filtration, ℓ being a linear form. From this we obtain a structure theorem which describes the stairs of a generic complete intersection for the degree-reverse-lexicographic order. We show what this means for generic standard (or Gröbner) bases for this order; in particular, we consider an “orderly filling up” conjecture, and we propose a strategy for the standard basis algorithm which could be useful in generic-like cases.     

The spline collocation method for parabolic boundary integral equations on smooth curves

Summary. We consider the spline collocation method for a class of parabolic pseudodifferential operators. We show optimal order convergence results in a large scale of anisotropic Sobolev spaces. The results cover the classical boundary integral equations for the heat equation in the general case where the spatial domain has a smooth boundary in the plane. Our proof is based on a localization technique for which we use our recent results proved for parabolic pseudodifferential operators. For the localization we need also some special spline approximation results in anisotropic Sobolev spaces. A Semigroup Approach to Boundary Feedback Systems

In this paper we convert a (linear abstract) initial boundary value problem into an abstract Cauchy problem on some product space and use semigroup methods to solve it. In particular, we apply spectral theory in order to discuss stability under boundary feedback.     

Two-generator subgroups of soluble groups and their Fitting subgroups

For soluble groups, the Fitting length is bounded by a function of the maximum order of the Fitting subgroups of 2-generator subgroups.     

The genus fields of Kummer function fields

In this paper, we give a definition of genus field of function field with one variable over finite fields. And we explicitly describe the genus fields of Kummer function fields. For quadratic function fields case, our results are analogous to the genus fields of quadratic number fields.     

Support problem for the intermediate Jacobians of l-adic representations

We consider the support problem of Erdös in the context of l-adic representations of the absolute Galois group of a number field. Main applications of the results of the paper concern Galois cohomology of the Tate module of abelian varieties with real and complex multiplications, the algebraic K-theory groups of number fields and the integral homology of the general linear group of rings of integers. We answer the question of Corrales-Rodrigáñez and Schoof concerning the support problem for higher dimensional abelian varieties.     

Growth of Betti numbers

We discuss growth rates of Betti numbers in a family of coverings of a compact cell complex X, when the corresponding L² Betti number of X is zero. We show that the Betti numbers are bounded by a function, sub-linear in the order of the covering. If the appropriate Novikov-Shubin invariant of X is positive, the rate bounds are improved. For well behaved families (such as congruence covers of symmetric spaces), if the L² spectrum of X? has a gap at zero then the growth rate is bounded by the order of the covering raised to a power less than one.
