Development of perpendicular magnetic recording is summarized along with learning from the research study. The early stage of perpendicular recording was conducted with the research philosophy of complementarity between perpendicular and horizontal recordings. Although present production of the perpendicular recording HDDs exceeds 600 million per year, development of perpendicular recording experienced the valley of death in the 1990s. The difficult period was overcome by the collaboration system of industrial and academic communities. The research on perpendicular recording brought about development of new research model as well as the historical view of the development of technology and innovation. The huge influence of perpendicular recording on society also taught us the relationship between science and technology with culture and civilization. 相似文献

Student engagement in classroom activities is usually described as a function of factors such as human needs, affect, intention, motivation, interests, identity, and others. We take a different approach and develop a framework that models classroom engagement as a function of students’ conceptual competence in the specific content (e.g., the mathematics of motion) of an activity. The framework uses a spatial metaphor—i.e., the classroom activity as a territory through which students move—as a way to both capture common engagement-related dynamics and as a communicative device. In this formulation, then, students’ engaged participation can be understood in terms of the nature of the “regions” and overall “topography” of the activity territory, and how much student movement such a territory affords. We offer the framework not in competition with other instructional design approaches, but rather as an additional tool to aid in the analysis and conduct of engaging classroom activities. 相似文献

The effect of different alternative techniques to the traditional aging on lees on the low molecular weight phenolic compounds of red wines was study as well as their evolution during the aging in oak wood barrels for six months. The study was carried out with Tempranillo red grapes from two consecutive vintages. A novel cell electrofusion microfluidic chip using discrete coplanar vertical sidewall electrodes has been designed, fabricated, and tested. The device contains a serpentine-shaped microchannel with 22 500 pairs of vertical sidewall microelectrodes patterned on two opposing vertical sidewalls of the microchannel. The adjacent microelectrodes on each sidewall are separated by coplanar SiO(2) -Polysilicon-SiO(2) /silicon. This design of coplanar discrete vertical sidewall electrodes eliminates the "dead area" present in previous designs using continuous three-dimensional (3D) protruding sidewall electrodes, and generates uniform electric field along the height of the microchannel, leading to a lower voltage required for cell fusion compared to designs using 2D thin-film electrodes. This device is tested to fuse NIH3T3 cells under a low voltage (~9 V). Almost 100% cells are aligned to the edge of the discrete microelectrodes, and cell-cell pairing efficiency reaches 70%. The electrofusion efficiency is above 40% of the total cells loaded into the device, which is much higher than traditional fusion methods and existing microfluidic devices using continuous 3D protruding sidewall microelectrodes. 相似文献

Inverse opal monolithic flow‐through structures of conducting polymer (CP) were achieved in microfluidic channels for lab‐on‐a‐chip (LOC) applications. In order to achieve the uniformly porous monolith, polystyrene (PS) colloidal crystal (CC) templates were fabricated in microfluidic channels. Consequently, an inverse opal polyaniline (PANI) structure was achieved on‐chip, through a two‐step process involving the electrochemical growth of PANI and subsequent removal of the template. In this work the effect of CP electropolymerisation time on these structures is discussed. It was found that growth time is critical in achieving an ordered structure with well‐defined flow‐through pores. This is significant as these optimised porous structures will allow for maximising the surface area of the monolith and will also result in well‐defined flow profiles through the microchannel. 相似文献

A novel technique in controlling the size of SiO2 nano‐particles in the preparation of Nafion/SiO2 composite membranes via in situ sol–gel method, as well as the effects of nano‐particle size on membrane properties and cell performance, is reported in this paper. Nafion/SiO2 composite membranes containing SiO2 nano‐particles with four different diameters (5 ± 0.5, 7 ± 0.5, 10 ± 1, and 15 ± 2 nm) are fabricated by altering the reactant concentrations during in situ sol–gel reaction. Sequentially, size effects of SiO2 nano‐particles on membrane properties and cell performance are investigated by SEM/EDAX, TEM, TGA, mechanical tensile, and single cell tests, etc. The results suggest that 10 nm is a critical diameter for SiO2 incorporated into Nafion matrix, exhibiting desirable physico‐chemical properties for operation at elevated temperature and low humidity. At 110°C and 59% RH, the output voltage of the cell equipped with Nafion/SiO2 (10 nm) obtains an output voltage of 0.625 V at 600 mA/cm2, which is 50 mV higher than that of unmodified Nafion. A new strategy was explored to generate pure gold cluster ions, Aun+/?, from gold films deposited on solid substrates via a matrix‐assisted laser ablation technique. The gold films deposited on SiO2‐particle‐assembled photonic crystals were demonstrated to be the most ideal compared with the films deposited on various glass slides. Dropped with a matrix of 2‐(4‐hydroxyphenylazo) benzoic acid and bombarded by nitrogen pulse laser (355 nm), they could release a series of Aun+ with n more than 110 or Aun? with n more than 60 according to the data obtained by inline time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry. The gold‐deposited photonic crystal substrates could be stored at room temperature for at least 6 months. The method is hence steady and convenient in use. A two-regional five-dimensional model describing the development of income, capital stock and money stock, which was introduced by Asada in (2004) [2] is analysed. Sufficient conditions for the existence of two pairs of purely imaginary eigenvalues and the last one being negative in the linear approximation matrix of the model are found. Formulae for the calculation of the coefficients in the bifurcation equation of the model are derived. The theorem on the existence of invariant tori is presented.
