Monodisperse magnetizable colloidal silica particles in a stable dispersion have been functionalized with a homogeneous catalyst: a PCP–pincer Pd-complex. In a proof-of-principle experiment we demonstrate the catalytic activity of the colloids in a C–C bond formation reaction. Advantages of the magnetic silica carriers are the large surface-to-volume ratio and the easy recovery by magnetic separation. After magnetic separation, the catalyst-loaded particles are readily redispersed for further use. 相似文献
A technology that could physically remove substances from the blood such as biological, chemical, or radiological toxins could dramatically improve treatment of disease. One method in development proposes to use magnetic-polymer spheres to selectively bind toxins and remove them by magnetic filtration. Although magnetic filtration is a developed technology, the clinical boundary conditions described here require a new filter design. We investigated the removal of toxin-bound magnetic carriers from the blood stream using 2-D FEMLAB simulations. The magnetic separator consisted of a permanent magnet with parallel ferromagnetic prisms on the faces and in contact with a straight tube carrying the magnetic-polymer spheres in suspension. We varied the following parameters: blood flow velocity, the size, and number of ferromagnetic prisms, and the ferromagnetic material in both prisms and magnets. The capture efficiency reached maximum values when the depth of the prisms equaled the diameter of the tubing and the saturation magnetization of the prism material equaled twice that of the magnet. With this design a piece of 2 mm (diameter) tube carrying the fluid resulted in 95% capture of 2.0 μm magnetic-polymer spheres at 10 cm/s flow velocity. 相似文献
We discuss the use of field theory for the exact determination of universal properties in two-dimensional statistical mechanics. After a compact derivation of critical exponents of main universality classes, we turn to the off-critical case, considering systems both on the whole plane and in presence of boundaries. The topics we discuss include magnetism, percolation, phase separation, interfaces, wetting. 相似文献
We report on an elastic neutron scattering study of the charge correlations in La2–xSrx CoO4 with x = 1/3, 0.4 and 0.5. We found that the checkerboard charge ordering correlations present in the x = 0.5 sample persist in the x = 0.4 and 1/3 materials. These checkerboard charge ordering correlations are robust and explain the occurrence of nano‐phase separation in layered cobaltates for Sr‐concentrations away from half‐doping. The half‐integer reflections then arise from the nanometer‐sized hole‐rich regions (blue areas in title figure) instead of the undoped ones (red areas in title figure). The appearance of nano‐phase separation is an important ingredient for understanding the formation of hour‐glass shaped magnetic excitation spectra in La2–xSrx CoO4.

A lattice model of a hetero-polymer with random hydrophilic-hydrophobic charges interacting with the solvent is introduced,
whose continuum counterpart has been proposed by Garel, Leibler and Orland [#!GLO!#]. The transfer matrix technique is used
to study various constrained annealed systems which approximate at various degrees of accuracy the original quenched model.
For highly hydrophobic chains an ordinary -point transition is found from a high temperature swollen phase to a low temperature compact phase. Depending on the type
of constrained averages, at very low temperatures a swollen phase or a coexistence between compact and swollen phases are
found. The results are carefully compared with the corresponding ones obtained in the continuum limit, and various improvements
in the original calculations are discussed.

One important goal of the ILIMA project at FAIR is the study of masses and decay properties of relativistic isomeric beams
stored and cooled in the planned storage-ring complex. A new scheme is described, where a storage-cooler ring is used for
high-resolution mass separation. Experimental results on the separation of the isobaric pair 140Pr-140Ce are presented.

Two biomimetic superhydrophobic polymeric surfaces were obtained by a simple approach under ambient atmosphere. Water and ethanol were used as the nonsolvents in the method of phase separation in different systems. The influences of various factors in the process were investigated. Both of the as-prepared films showed excellent superhydrophobicity, depending on the high contact angle and the low contact angle hysteresis. Moreover, the classic and a new modified Cassie-Baxter relation were used on the polystyrene and poly-α-methyl styrene films to confirm the superhydrophobic performance. 相似文献
This paper applies the exp-function method, which was originally proposed to find new exact travelling wave solutions of nonlinear evolution equations, to the Riccati equation, and some exact solutions of this equation are obtained. Based on the Riccati equation and its exact solutions, we find new and more generalvariable separation solutions with two arbitrary functions of (1+1)-dimensional coupled integrable dispersionless system. As some special examples, some new solutions can degenerate into variable separation solutions reported in open literatures. By choosing suitably two independent variables p(x) and q(t) inour solutions, the annihilation phenomena of the flat-basin soliton, arch-basin soliton, and flat-top soliton are discussed. 相似文献
