We study the L p -spectrum of the Laplace–Beltrami operator on certain complete locally symmetric spaces with finite volume and arithmetic fundamental group Γ whose universal covering X is a symmetric space of non-compact type. We also show, how the obtained results for locally symmetric spaces can be generalized to manifolds with cusps of rank one.   相似文献

We give a simple proof of a Riemann mapping theorem for domains in a Stein manifold with a spherical boundary. Those boundaries are real hypersurfaces which are locally CR equivalent to the sphere inside complex space. The main observation is that for higher dimensional Stein manifolds, the fundamental group of its boundary coincides with that of its interior.  相似文献

We investigate general Shapiro-Lopatinsky elliptic boundary value problems on manifolds with polycylindrical ends. This is accomplished by compactifying such a manifold to a manifold with corners of in general higher codimension, and we then deal with boundary value problems for cusp differential operators. We introduce an adapted Boutet de Monvel's calculus of pseudodifferential boundary value problems, and construct parametrices for elliptic cusp operators within this calculus. Fredholm solvability and elliptic regularity up to the boundary and up to infinity for boundary value problems on manifolds with polycylindrical ends follows.  相似文献

Film flows down a vertical plane, the so-called falling films, are covered by waves whose lengths are longer than a threshold value corresponding to neutral stability of the waveless flow. On the other hand, experiments also demonstrate existence of the upper threshold wavelength in unstable interval. This phenomenon is explained through careful analysis of dynamical system modelling the wave dynamics in falling films.  相似文献

In recent years differential systems whose solutions evolve on manifolds of matrices have acquired a certain relevance in numerical analysis. A classical example of such a differential system is the well-known Toda flow. This paper is a partial survey of numerical methods recently proposed for approximating the solutions of ordinary differential systems evolving on matrix manifolds. In particular, some results recently obtained by the author jointly with his co-workers will be presented. We will discuss numerical techniques for isospectral and isodynamical flows where the eigenvalues of the solutions are preserved during the evolution and numerical methods for ODEs on the orthogonal group or evolving on a more general quadratic group, like the symplectic or Lorentz group. We mention some results for systems evolving on the Stiefel manifold and also review results for the numerical solution of ODEs evolving on the general linear group of matrices.  相似文献

Cheeger and Gromoll proved that a closed Riemannian manifold of nonnegative Ricci curvature is, up to a finite cover, diffeomorphic to a direct product of a simply connected manifold and a torus. In this paper, we extend this theorem to manifolds of almost nonnegative Ricci curvature.  相似文献
