Expedient synthesis of villosin and its isomer (E)-labda-8(17),12,14-trien-15(16)-olide

The synthesis of the title compounds has been achieved in concise, highly regiocontrolled fashion from commercially available (+)-sclareolide. In addition, we offer evidence that the structure of a newly reported natural product from Zingiber ottensii is incorrect.

采用有限元方法对大型钢结构人行景观天桥进行了静力学、温度应力、动力学模态和初步的抗震能力分析,并就桥自重作用下的最大竖向位移和实际观测结果进行了比较,两者是一致的.计算结果表明:人行景观天桥在常规、温度极值改变和多遇地震荷载作用等多种工况下,现有的设计方案具有足够的强度、刚度和抗震能力.     

On the classification of all self-dual additive codes over GF(4) of length up to 12

We consider additive codes over GF(4) that are self-dual with respect to the Hermitian trace inner product. Such codes have a well-known interpretation as quantum codes and correspond to isotropic systems. It has also been shown that these codes can be represented as graphs, and that two codes are equivalent if and only if the corresponding graphs are equivalent with respect to local complementation and graph isomorphism. We use these facts to classify all codes of length up to 12, where previously only all codes of length up to 9 were known. We also classify all extremal Type II codes of length 14. Finally, we find that the smallest Type I and Type II codes with trivial automorphism group have length 9 and 12, respectively.     

A Model for Spacetime: The Role of Interpretation in Some Grothendieck Topoi

We analyse the proposition that the spacetime structure is modified at short distances or at high energies due to weakening of classical logic. The logic assigned to the regions of spacetime is intuitionistic logic of some topoi. Several cases of special topoi are considered. The quantum mechanical effects can be generated by such semi-classical spacetimes. The issues of: background independence and general relativity covariance, field theoretic renormalization of divergent expressions, the existence and definition of path integral measures, are briefly discussed in the proposal. The connection with some problems in foundations of mathematics and differential topology are also discussed.     

Preparation and Mechanical Properties of Fe3Al Nanostructured Intermetallics

Nanostructured Fe₃Al intermetallic compounds were produced by using hydrogen arc plasma method. The transmission electron microscopy experiments showed that the average particle size of the as-synthesized was about 40-nm. The change in hardness of Fe₃Al nanostructured intermetallic compounds with annealing temperatures was observed and evaluated.     

Density functional theory investigation of the structure of SO2 and SO3 on Cu(1 1 1) and Ni(1 1 1)

Density functional theory (DFT) slab calculations, mainly using the generalised gradient approximation, have been used to investigate the minimum energy structures of molecular SO₂ and SO₃ on Cu(1 1 1) and Ni(1 1 1) surfaces. On Ni(1 1 1) the optimal local adsorption structures are in close agreement with experimental results for both molecular species obtained using the X-ray standing wavefield technique, although for adsorbed SO₂ the energetic difference between two alternative lateral positions of the lying-down molecule on the surface is marginally significant. On Cu(1 1 1) the results for adsorbed SO₂, in particular, were sensitive to the DFT functional used in the calculations, but in all cases failed to reproduce the experimentally-established preference for adsorption with the molecular plane perpendicular to the surface. This result is discussed in the context of previously published DFT results for these species adsorbed on Cu(1 0 0). The optimal geometry found for SO₃ on Cu(1 1 1) is similar to that on Ni(1 1 1), providing agreement with experiment regarding the molecular orientation but not the adsorption site.     

Persistence and stability for a two-species ratio-dependent predator-prey system with distributed time delay

A two-species ratio-dependent predator-prey model with distributed time delay is investigated. It is shown that the system is persistent under some appropriate conditions, and sufficient conditions are obtained for both the local and global stability of the positive equilibrium of the system.     

Analysis of Static Simulated Annealing Algorithms

Generalized hill climbing (GHC) algorithms provide a framework for modeling local search algorithms to address intractable discrete optimization problems. This paper introduces a measure for determining the expected number of iterations to visit a predetermined objective function level, given that an inferior objective function level has been reached in a finite number of iterations. A variation of simulated annealing (SA), termed static simulated annealing (S²A), is analyzed using this measure. S²A uses a fixed cooling schedule during the algorithm execution. Though S²A is probably nonconvergent, its finite-time performance can be assessed using the finite-time performance measure defined in this paper.     

DESIGN OF A NOVEL 2-D UNIPLANAR CRLH-TL STRUCTURE

A novel uniplanar 2-D composite right/left-handed transmission line (CRLH-TL) structure is proposed based on a general transmission line theory and the way to increase the relative operating bandwidth in the left-handed (LH) region and lower the LH operating frequency is illustrated. In addition, a new method to extract parameters and calculate the Bloch impedance of the structure is presented. Numerical results of the dispersion as well as the extracted parameters are given, which are calculated based on full-wave simulation. The present 2-D uniplanar CRLH-TL structure is applicable to 2-D left-handed materials in lower and wider LH frequency range.
