聚电解质-磺化聚砜溶液的光散射

本文采用激光小角光散射法,测定了聚电解质-磺化聚砜(钠盐),在分别舍有NaNO_3、LiNO_3、LiCl、NaBr和NaI的DMF中各试样的表现分子量。结果表明,在含有0.07N NaNO_3的DMF中,磺化聚砜的表观分子量接近于试样的真实分子量。     

Subphthalocyanines as narrow band red-light emitting materials

A series of new light emitting subphthalocyanines, lower homologues of phthalocyanines, were synthesized having color points covering the red-orange region of the visible spectrum. Additionally, they were found to be of potential use as narrow band emitters for red-light emitting diodes.     

Automatic sugar analysis in the beet industry. Part I: Parameter optimization of a reversed phase HPLC carbohydrate determination

An evaluation of the most commonly used HPLC system (reversed phase octadecyl sillica gel) was undertaken in order to determine the level of certain carbohydrates in molasses produced in the refining of sugar beet. Chromatographic parameters and purification operations prior to analysis are discussed in order to develop an analytical method permitting automation of sugar determination. A Zorbax ODS column (250 × 9.4 mm), water elution, and light scattering detection allow easy determination of glucose + fructose, sucrose, and raffinose in molasses using an internal standard (maltose).     

A Structural Basis of Light Energy and Electron Transfer in Biology (Nobel Lecture)

Aspects of intramolecular light energy and electron transfer are discussed for three protein cofactor complexes whose three-dimensional structures have been elucidated by X-ray crystallography: the light harvesting phycobilisomes of cyanobacteria, the reaction center of purple bacteria, and the blue multi-copper oxidases. A wealth of functional data is available for these systems which allows specific correlations to be made between structure and function and general conclusions to be drawn about light energy and electron transfer in biological materials.     

Characterization of proteins separated by displacement chromatography using low angle laser light scattering photometry

Summary -Lactoglobulin A and B (-LACT) were separated by displacement chromatography (DSC) on an ionexchange column using dextran sulfate as the displacer. A LALLS photometer and a UV detector, in series, were used to determine the molecular weight (MW) of the proteins, on-line. The results indicate that both, -LACT A and B, were present as dimers in the buffer used for the mobile phase. The MWs of the proteins were about 6–8% higher than the theoretical MW of a dimer (37,000). Additional control studies have shown the presence of a high molecular weight species in both the proteins, which could possibly be an aggregate. This species was observed in the LALLS signal but was nearly absent in the UV signal. Our work has demonstrated the feasibility of interfacing LALLS with displacement chromatography for detecting impurities or aggregates which may be difficult to detect by conventional detectors used for chromatography.

An improved method for determination of light hydrocarbons in stabilized crude oil

Summary This paper reports a quick, and simple method for quantitative determination of C₂ to C₆ hydrocarbons in stabilized crude oil without using a back flush system. A mixture of crude oil and internal standard is injected into a GC equipped with a 6 meter length of fused silica capillary as a guard column. The light hydrocarbons are separated individually up to the last peak of the hexane group with the heavier components trapped in the guard column. The total analysis time for each sample is 15 minutes. The base line is table for up to 15 consecutive analyses. The guard column and the injector port are then reconditioned by simply heating them for one hour at 300 °C.     

Performance of a sound card as data acquisition system and a lock-in emulated by software in capillary electrophoresis

The performance of fluorescence detectors in capillary electrophoresis is maximized when the excitation light intensity is modulated in time with optimal frequencies. This is especially true when photomultiplier tubes are used to detect the fluorescent light. The photomultiplier tube amplified raw output signal can in principle be captured directly by a personal computer sound card (PCSC) and processed by a lock-in emulated by software. This possibility is demonstrated in the present work and the performance of this new setup is compared with a traditional data acquisition system. The results obtained with this “PCSC and lock-in emulated by software” were of the same quality or even better compared to that obtained by conventional time integrators (Boxcars) and data acquisition boards. With PCSC the limits of detection (LOD) found for both naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde-derivatized tyrosine and alanine were 3.3 and 3.5 fmol (injection of 5 nL of samples at 0.66 and 0.70 μmol/L), respectively. This is at least three times better compared to conventional systems when light emitting diodes (LEDs) are used as the excitation source in fluorescence detectors. The PCSC linear response range was also larger compared to conventional data acquisition boards. This scheme showed to be a practical and convenient alternative of data acquisition and signal processing for detection systems used in capillary electrophoresis.
