Determination of triclosan in foodstuffs

A reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic (RP-HPLC) method coupled with an ultraviolet detector was developed to determine triclosan which had migrated into foodstuffs from packaging materials. The method includes extraction with hexane, followed by evaporation to dryness and residue re-dissolution in ACN 90%. Chromatographic separation was performed with a Kromasil 100 C18 column (15 cm x 0.4 cm ID, 5 microm particle size) at 30 degrees C and using ACN and water as mobile phases. Regarding recoveries, good results (higher than 83% and lower than 112%) were obtained for the three representative food matrixes selected (orange juice, chicken breast meat, and Gouda cheese).     

Die Kristallstruktur von Na2NiAlF7—ein Beitrag zum Problem der wahren Raumgruppe orthorhombischer Weberite

The Crystal Structure of Na₂NiAlF₇ — a Contribution to the Problem of the True Space Group of Orthorhombic Weberites The X-ray single crystal structure determination of the orthorhombic weberite Na₂NiAlF₇ (a = 707.4(2), b = 1003.8(2), c = 731.5(1) pm; Z = 4) was performed in space group Imma, after all reflections hk0 with h(k) = 2n + 1 could be eliminated, as they proved simulated by Renninger effect and/or λ/2 reflections. The alternative space groups Imm2 resp. I2₁2₁2₁ of former weberite structure determinations thus became obsolete. The refinement using 880 independent reflections ended at wR = 0.0232. The resulting average distances within the framework of octahedra are Ni? F = 197.3, Al? F = 180.4 pm.

A recycling technique for the chromatographic separation of enantiomers and diastereomers on triacetylcellulose

A simple and inexpensive equipment for the optical resolution of enantiomers (and separation of diastereomers) on triacetylcellulose in ethanol at elevated pressure is described. It involves a closed circuit of solvent (pump—column—detector—pump) allowing a continuous chromatography up to 16 cycles without stopping the flow or handling fractions.This useful and versatile method permitting also the determination of enantiomeric purities is illustrated by several examples of centro-, axial- and planarchiral arenes and metallocenes.Herrn Prof. Dr.U. Insoluble eggshell matrix proteins--their peptide mapping and partial characterization by capillary electrophoresis and high-performance liquid chromatography

Avian eggshell matrix proteins were studied by two analytical approaches. Peptide mapping was done by trypsin and pepsin followed by collagenase cleavage; analyses were carried out by capillary electrophoresis and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Comparison of peptide maps obtained by both methods revealed a complex mixture of peptides in the insoluble layers of the eggshell; it was concluded that there are at least three different insoluble protein/peptide layers in the avian eggshell (cuticle, palisade, and mammillary layer). Partial characterization of peptides in each layer was made by HPLC-mass spectrometry analysis. There is an evidence that the eggshell insoluble proteins contain species susceptible to collagenase cleavage, however, the sequences split by this enzyme probably are not those typical for the main triple-helical core of collagenous proteins. It is proposed that the action of collagenase upon eggshell proteins is caused by the side effect of collagenase described previously with synthetic peptides. Some of the proteins present are probably glycosylated. Fatty acid content in the insoluble eggshell layers (after decalcification) was in the range of 2-4% (which reflected both lipid and lipoproteins bound fatty acids). Porphyrin pigments are dominant in the cuticle layer.

There is a model of yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) synthesis presented in this article. The developed model is based on nonlinear reaction–diffusion partial differential equations. The solution was carried out numerically using finite difference techniques. We got dependability curves for diffusion and reaction rates and offered possible method to localize values of diffusion and reaction rate constants precisely enough.AMS subject classification: 35K57, 65M06     

Unraveling the mystery of efficacy in Chinese medicine formula: New approaches and technologies for research on pharmacodynamic substances

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is the key to unlock treasures of Chinese civilization. TCM and its compound play a beneficial role in medical activities to cure diseases, especially in major public health events such as novel coronavirus epidemics across the globe. The chemical composition in Chinese medicine formula is complex and diverse, but their effective substances resemble “mystery boxes”. Revealing their active ingredients and their mechanisms of action has become focal point and difficulty of research for herbalists. Although the existing research methods are numerous and constantly updated iteratively, there is remain a lack of prospective reviews. Hence, this paper provides a comprehensive account of existing new approaches and technologies based on previous studies with an in vitro to in vivo perspective. In addition, the bottlenecks of studies on Chinese medicine formula effective substances are also revealed. Especially, we look ahead to new perspectives, technologies and applications for its future development. This work reviews based on new perspectives to open horizons for the future research. Consequently, herbal compounding pharmaceutical substances study should carry on the essence of TCM while pursuing innovations in the field.

Simultaneous Determination of Aluminum and Iron in High Salt Content Matrices by Adsorptive Stripping Voltammetry. Application to Dialysis Fluids

A new analytical procedure for the simultaneous determination of aluminum(III) and iron(II) in two kinds of dialysis fluids (peritoneal and hemodialysis fluids) by differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetry (DPAdSV) is described. The voltammetric measurements were performed using, as working electrode, a stationary mercury electrode, and a platinum electrode and a Ag|AgCl|KCl_(sat.) electrode as auxiliary and reference electrodes, respectively, employing acetate buffer solutions at different pH as supporting electrolyte. As complexing agents, Solochrome Violet RS, Palatine Chrome Black 6BN, Chromazurol S and Eriochrome Black T were employed. For both elements, the accuracy, expressed as relative recovery R%, was very satisfactory being in the range 94–105%, the precision as repeatability, expressed as relative standard deviation s_r%, was lower than 6%, while the limits of detection were of the order of a few units of μg/L. The analytical voltammetric procedure has been validated by comparison with spectroscopic (graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy, GFAAS) measurements.     

Direct determination of the enantiomeric purity of oxyphenonium using chiral HPLC with post-column extraction detection

Summary A method is described for the determination of the enantiomeric purity (enantiomeric excess) of the anticholinergic drug oxyphenonium. The method for this quaternary ammonium compound is based on the direct HPLC analysis with a chiral stationary phase. Two kinds of 1-acid glycoprotein-bonded phases were used.For the detection a post-column extraction with fluorescence detection of the ion-pair counter ion dimethoxyantracene sulphonate was used.
