An analytical proof of Hardy-like inequalities related to the Dirac operator

We prove some sharp Hardy-type inequalities related to the Dirac operator by elementary, direct methods. Some of these inequalities have been obtained previously using spectral information about the Dirac-Coulomb operator. Our results are stated under optimal conditions on the asymptotics of the potentials near zero and near infinity.     

Synthesis and characterization of poly(vinyl alcohol)‐graft‐[poly(D,L‐lactide)/poly(D,L‐lactide‐co‐glycolide)] hydrogels

Poly(D ,L ‐lactide) and poly(D ,L ‐lactide‐co‐glycolide) with various composition and with one methacrylate and one carboxylate end group were synthesized and grafted onto poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) via the carboxylate group. The graft copolymers were crosslinked via the methacrylate groups using a free radical initiator. The polymer networks were characterized by means of NMR and studied qualitatively by means of IR spectroscopy. The influence of the glycolide content in the polyester grafts and of the number of ester units in the grafts on thermal properties and swellability were studied as well. The high swellability in water is characteristic of all hydrogels. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed a single glass transition temperature that occurs in the range between 51 and 69 °C. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of the networks showed the main loss in weight in the temperature range between 290 and 370 °C. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Extensions of Banach Lie-Poisson spaces

The extension of Banach Lie-Poisson spaces is studied and linked to the extension of a special class of Banach Lie algebras. The case of W∗-algebras is given particular attention. Semidirect products and the extension of the restricted Banach Lie-Poisson space by the Banach Lie-Poisson space of compact operators are given as examples.     

The Hochschild class of the Chern character for semifinite spectral triples

We provide a proof of Connes’ formula for a representative of the Hochschild class of the Chern character for (p,∞)-summable spectral triples. Our proof is valid for all semifinite von Neumann algebras, and all integral p?1. We employ the minimum possible hypotheses on the spectral triples.     

Higher order symplectic RK and RKN methods using perturbed collocation

In this paper, we derive a one-parameter family of symplectic Runge-Kutta-Nyström methods of order 2s-1 and a two-parameter family of symplectic Runge-Kutta methods of order 2s-2.     

High order linear initial-value problems and Schauder bases

In this paper we approximate the solution of a linear initial-value problem, making use of a Schauder basis for certain Banach space associated with such a differential problem. In addition, we apply that results in order to calculate numerically the response from a structure modelled by a three degree-of-freedom mass–damper–spring system.     

Exact groups and Fell bundles

Pseudo-symplectic Runge-Kutta methods

Apart from specific methods amenable to specific problems, symplectic Runge-Kutta methods are necessarily implicit. The aim of this paper is to construct explicit Runge-Kutta methods which mimic symplectic ones as far as the linear growth of the global error is concerned. Such method of orderp have to bepseudo-symplectic of pseudosymplecticness order2p, i.e. to preserve the symplectic form to within ⊗(h ^2p )-terms. Pseudo-symplecticness conditions are then derived and the effective construction of methods discussed. Finally, the performances of the new methods are illustrated on several test problems.     

Depth profiling of latex blends of fluorinated and fluorine‐free acrylates with laser‐induced secondary mass spectrometry

We explored phase separation and self‐assembly of perfluoroalkyl segments at the surface of polymer films obtained from latices of semifluorinated acrylate copolymers and the corresponding latex blends of nonfluorinated and semifluorinated polyacrylates. With laser‐induced secondary mass spectrometry the fluorine distribution was measured after annealing above the minimum film‐forming temperature of the polymers up to a depth of several micrometers. Depth profiles of a semifluorinated acrylate homopolymer and latex blends thereof with fluorine‐free alkylacrylates with 25, 50, and 75 mol % semifluorinated acrylate as well as a copolymer comprised of alkyl acrylate and semifluorinated acrylate (50/50 mol %) were investigated. In the case of latex blends containing both semifluorinated polyacrylates and fluorine‐free or low‐fluorine polymers, self‐assembly accounted for enrichment of the perfluoroalkyl segments at the surface.
