Further Highly Oxygenated Guaiane Lactones from the South China Sea Gorgonian Menella sp.

Four new highly oxygenated guaiane lactones, 1‐epimenverin B ( 1 ), menverin F ( 2 ), 1‐deoxymenverin F ( 3 ), and menverin G ( 4 ), together with the two known related analogues menverins B ( 5 ) and C ( 6 ), were isolated from the South China Sea gorgonian Menella sp. Their structures and relative configuration were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data and by comparison with those of known related compounds.     

Two New Guaiane Sesquiterpenes from the Fruits of Daucus carota

Two new sesquiterpenes, 11‐(acetyloxy)torilolone ( 1 ) and 1β‐hydroxytorilolone ( 2 ) were obtained from the fruits of Daucus carota. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of various spectroscopic analyses and chemical evidence.     

Synthesis and crystal structure of a new methooytrichloro derivative of achillin

A new trichlorometoxy derivative of achillin was isolated from the mixture of chlorination products of achillin in MeOH. The structure of this product was established by X-ray diffraction analysis. This confirmed the previously proposed stereochemistry for the molecules of other two products of this reaction.     

Selective Formation of a Vicinal Dinitro Derivative via Nitrosochlorination of the Sesquiterpene Lactone Achillin

Bubbling gaseous nitrosylchloride through a chloroform solution of the guaianolide achillin produces very slowly but selectively 1,10-dihydro-1,10-dinitroachillin. This product rapidly, quantitatively, and irreversibly isomerizes into the dinitrocarboxylic acid with retention of the guaian carbon skeleton upon dissolution in pyridine. The structures of the new compounds were found by x-ray structural analysis     

NMR and x-ray conformational study of artemisiifolin and three other related germacranolides

From an acetone extract of Staehelina dubia, large quantities of the previously known germacranolide artemisiifolin were isolated. The conformations of the 10-membered germacra-1(10)E,4Z-diene ring system of this compound and those of its derivatives 11,13-dihydroartemisiifolin, isabelin and 6alpha-hydroxy-15-oxogermacra-1(10)E,4Z,11(13)-trien-12,8alpha-olide were studied by NMR spectroscopic methods. Low-energy conformations were obtained by quantum mechanical calculations. An x-ray diffraction analysis of artemisiifolin established that, in the crystalline state, it possesses a unique conformation that corresponds to the majority one existing in acetone-d6 solution.     

Synthesis of 11-hydroxydrim-8(9)-en-7-one and 11,12-dihydroxydrim-8(9)-en-7-one from drim-8(9)-en-7-one

A synthetic route to 11-hydroxydrim-8(9)-en-7-one and 11,12-hydroxydrim-8(9)-en-7-one, valuable key intermediates for the preparation of naturally occurring biologically active drimanic sesquiterpenoids, starting from easily available drim-8(9)-en-7-one was developed. 11-Hydroxydrim-8(9)-en-7-one was obtained by peracidic oxidation of the enol acetate of drim-8(9)-en-7-one. 11,12-Dihydroxydrim-8(9)-en-7-one was synthesized from drim-8(9)-en-7-one by two routes, namely, by a five-step procedurevia 11-hydroxydrim-8(9)-en-7-one and by bromination of drim-8(9)-en-7-one with NBS to give 11,12-dibromodrim-8(9)-en-7-one followed by its acetoxylation and deacetylation. 15-O-Deacetylrhaposerin and rhaserin -- new components of a lactone mixture from Rhaponticum serratuloides

As part of our continuing studies of lactones from the aerial part of the plant Rhaponticum serratuloides, 15-O-deacetylrhaposerin and new guaianolide called rhaserin were isolated along with the well-known loliolide. The configuration of the C(17) asymmetric center in 15-O-deacetylrhaposerin was established by X-ray diffraction analysis. The molecular structure of rhaserin was determined based on the data from ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy (including 2D NMR spectroscopy) of this lactone and its 4,15-O-isopropylidene derivative.     

Migration of the O-acetyl group in the acetonation of guaianolide rhaposerin

Acetonation of rhaposerin is accompanied by migration of the O-acetyl group. Acetonation of 15-O-deacetylrhaposerin afforded isomeric O-isopropylidene derivatives containing five- and six-membered rings.     

Two Eremophilane-type Sesquiterpenoids from the Rhizomes of Ligularia veitchiana（Hemsl.） Greenm

Two eremophilane-type sesquiterpenoids from the rhizomes of Ligularia veitchiana(Hemsl.) Greenm were isolated and determined as 10α,11-endoperoxide-1(2)-en-7α-hydroeremophilane(1) and 1(10)-en-2-oxo-7α-isopropanol-eremophilane(2).Compound 1 was a new compound and compound 2 was a new natural product.The structures of the two compounds were established by means of spectral methods including 1H NMR,13C NMR,2D NMR and MS.
