Spontaneous Surgery on the Borromean Rings

We study the cone-manifolds whose singular sets are obtained by orbifold and spontaneous surgeries on components of the Borromean rings. We establish existence of geometric structures on these manifolds. For manifolds with hyperbolic structure we obtain an integral representation for volumes.     

A New Family of Cyclic Difference Sets with Singer Parameters in Characteristic Three

We construct a new family of cyclic difference sets with parameters ((3 ^d – 1)/2, (3 ^{d – 1} – 1)/2, (3 ^{d – 2} – 1)/2) for each odd d. The difference sets are constructed with certain maps that form Jacobi sums. These new difference sets are similar to Maschietti's hyperoval difference sets, of the Segre type, in characteristic two. We conclude by calculating the 3-ranks of the new difference sets.     

The p-Blocks of the Mackey Algebra

Let p be a prime number. This paper describes the primitive idempotents and prime spectrum of the crossed Burnside algebra of a finite group over a p-local ring. The main application is a formula for the block idempotents of the p-local Mackey algebra of the group, in terms of the corresponding bloks of the group algebra.     

关于AP-内射环的一个注记

本文的主要目的是讨论AP-内射环中的两个问题:(1)环R是正则的当且仅当R是左AP-内射的左PP-环;(2)如果R是左AP-内射环,那么R是内射环当且仅当R是弱内射环.因此我们推广了内射环的一些结果,与此同时我们还取得了一些新的结果.     

On Gouvêa's conjecture in the unobstructed case

In this article, for a residual modular representation defined over an arbitrary finite field, Gouvêa's conjecture which says that the universal deformation ring is isomorphic to a certain Hecke algebra is proven in the unobstructed case.

基于电荷的不连续性,对处于外磁场中的介观双环系统进行量子化.假设系统在电荷表象中具有变换的对称性,通过求解电流和Hamilton算符的本征值方程,给出介观金属环互感系统中的量子电流和能谱关系;分析和研究了介观金属环中量子电流和能谱的性质.结果表明,持续电流和量子能谱不仅与外磁场、介观双环参数有关,而且还明显地依赖于电荷的量子化性质.     

Present and future experiments with stored exotic nuclei at relativistic energies

Pioneering experiments with stored and cooled exotic nuclei at relativistic energies have been performed using the combination of the fragment separator FRS with the storage-cooler ring ESR. Exotic nuclei created in peripheral collisions are spatially separated in-flight and injected into the storage ring for high-precision mass and unique lifetime measurements. Lifetimes of stored bare and few-electron nuclei have been measured to study the influence of the electron density on the β decay. This condition, relevant for stellar plasma, can now be systematically investigated in the laboratory for the first time. Characteristic experiments of the present FRS-ESR system are presented and perspectives for a next-generation facility are briefly outlined. Received: 1 May 2001 / Accepted: 4 December 2001     

Aharonov–Bohm effect in non-uniform crater-like quantum dot with double rim

We study electron energies in a double concentric quantum ring with anisotropy in the rims heights in the presence of the external magnetic field applied along the symmetry axis. To this end, we consider a model in which the thickness grows linearly from the axis up to the inner rim with a slope different from one between the inner and the outer rims. The anisotropy in the rims heights originated by the presence in the structure of various valleys we simulate by periodic dependence of the slope on the radial direction. We show that the wave functions of the electron confined in such structure can be found analytically if the slopes in all radial directions are the same, and by using a simple exact diagonalization procedure otherwise. The behavior of the electron energies as functions of the magnetic field, rings radii and rims heights, as well as the number of the valleys and their depths is consistently described with our formalism. The entanglement of the states with different radial and orbital quantum numbers, the period and the amplitude of the Aharonov–Bohm oscillations are very sensible to any variations of the rims heights.
