Many theoretical and experimental studies have been developed to characterize the spectral response of an optical fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in axial strain fields in recent years. However, comparatively few works were devoted to the evolution of the spectrum when a FBG is subjected to non-uniform transverse load. In this paper, the effects of distributed birefringence on FBG under non-uniform transverse load are analyzed and a numerical simulation based on the piecewise-uniform approach is also discussed to simulate the responses of FBG under some typical non-uniform transverse strain fields. Experiment was carried out using different loads applied at different locations of the FBG. Good agreements between experimental results and numerical simulations have been obtained.  相似文献

We have investigated the generation of the 40-GHz double-sideband optical millimeter (mm)-wave with signal carried only by its optical carrier via an embedded LiNbO3 Mach-Zehnder modulator (LN-MZM). Since the optical carrier and its two first-order sidebands are dominant and their powers are well balanced, the first-order harmonic in the photocurrent gets maximal. As the optical mm-wave signal is transmitted along the fiber, there is no code outline distortion because the signal is only modulated on the optical carrier. Although the first-order harmonic shows the periodical fading effect when the optical mm-wave signal is transmitted along the fiber, its degradation on the radio-over-fiber link can be avoided by adjusting the position of the fading nodes via varying the main MZM bias voltage, and the signal still keeps much good eye diagram even after 50-km fiber transmission. The experimental results prove our theory.  相似文献

We present an all-fiber sensor for simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain. The sensing head is formed by introducing a fiber Bragg grating into a high-birefringence fiber loop mirror that acts as a Mach-Zehnder interferometer for temperature and strain discrimination. A sensing resolution of ±1 °C in temperature and ±21 με in strain has been experimentally achieved over a temperature range of 60 °C and strain range of 600 με.  相似文献

In this paper, a new heuristic approach based on chaos genetic algorithm and modified transfer matrix method is presented to demodulate the fiber Bragg grating strain sensors. To facilitate accurate calculation of the grating reflected intensity spectrum, the modified transfer matrix approach is applied. The motivation for using the spline smooth function scheme is to provide nice approximation of strain profiles from a scattered data set and overcome the difficulty of calculating the strain gradients in local period function of the modified T-matrix formulation for the piecewise constant strain field assumption. The chaos genetic algorithm is developed to improve the performance of GA and optimize the data of control nodes of the spline smooth function, and more valuably, the reconstructed strain profile is continuous with discretionary spatial resolution. The proposed method is verified through numerical example reconstructions of Bragg grating sensor simulated strain profile cases.  相似文献

Optical interconnection between vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) and PIN on fiber-embedded printed circuit board (PCB) was studied in this paper. The whole project was introduced, and the technics by traditional manufacture machine of PCB was described in detail. Model of direct coupling structure between optical transceiver and fiber was analyzed by geometrical optics, and alignment tolerances were given. Performance parameters were tested. It was shown that the advantages of this method were low insertion loss, small size, big throughput, and compatible with traditional technics. It also could have a great application in fabrication of fiber interconnection backplane.  相似文献

In the sinusoidal phase modulating interferometer technique, the high-speed CCD is necessary to detect the interference signals. The reason of ordinary CCD's low frame rate was analyzed, and a novel high-speed image sensing technique with adjustable frame rate based on an ordinary CCD was proposed. And the principle of the image sensor was analyzed. When the maximum frequency and channel bandwidth were constant, a custom high-speed sensor was designed by using the ordinary CCD under the control of the special driving circuit. The frame rate of the ordinary CCD has been enhanced by controlling the number of pixels of every frame; therefore, the ordinary of CCD can be used as the high frame rate image sensor with small amount of pixels. The multi-output high-speed image sensor has the deficiencies of low accuracy, and high cost, while the high-speed image senor with small number of pixels by using this technique can overcome theses faults. The light intensity varying with time was measured by using the image sensor. The frame rate was up to 1600 frame per second (f/s), and the size of every frame and the frame rate were adjustable. The correlation coefficient between the measurement result and the standard values were higher than 0.98026, and the relative error was lower than 0.53%. The experimental results show that this sensor is fit to the measurements of sinusoidal phase modulating interferometer technique.  相似文献

A novel fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor for the measurement of high temperature is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The interrogation system of the sensor system is simple, low cost but effective. The sensor head is comprised of one FBG and two metal rods. The lengths of the rods are different from each other. The coefficients of thermal expansion of the rods are also different from each other. The FBG will be strained by the sensor head when the temperature to be measured changes. The temperature is measured basis of the wavelength shifts of the FBG induced by strain. A dynamic range of 0–800 °C and a resolution of 1 °C have been obtained by the sensor system. The experiment results agree with theoretical analyses.  相似文献

Crossed waveguide is widely used in optical devices, whose excess loss has a strong impact on multi-turn optical waveguide ring resonator and resonator integrated optic gyro. The resonance curve of the ring resonator is sharply dependent on the loss within the resonator. This paper presents how to get excess loss of the crossed waveguides nondestructively through the comparison of the resonance characteristics between one-turn and multi-turn optical waveguide ring resonators.  相似文献

The split-step Fourier method is used to study the energy switching characteristics of fiber nonlinear directional couplers with the third-order dispersion. The effects of the third-order dispersion increases with the third-order dispersion coefficient and input power and result in pulse shift and energy decreases. The reliability and the expected lifetime of optical fibers used in telecommunication technologies are closely related to the chemical environment action on the silica network. To ensure the long-term mechanical strength of the optical fibers, a polymer coating was applied onto the fiber surface during fiber fabrication. This external coating is vital to ensure a long optical fiber lifetime. Its protective action includes several functions, such as to protect glass fiber from any external damage, to limit chemical attack, in particular that of water, and finally to ensure fatigue protection and bending insensitivity, especially during handling and in-service installation. Since the mechanical strength of the fiber is controlled by its surface characteristics, we propose a new method for increasing fiber strength.The silica optical fibers used were 125 μm in diameter, with a 62.5 μm thick epoxy-acrylate coating. Fibers were rolled up around two similar cylinders. Using a screw, these cylinders moved away from one another and thus subjected the fibers to stretching. Submitted to this mechanical loading, the distended fibers were plunged into hot water at 65 or 85 °C and aged for several days. Then, the fibers were removed from the water and various weights were suspended on the fiber ends. Thus, the fibers were subjected to a tensile loading in static fatigue for several days. Just before fiber rupture, the fibers were unloaded and subjected to dynamic tensile tests at different velocities.Result analysis proved that the aging in hot water increased the fiber strength. The Weibull's diagram study shows a bimodal dispersion of defects on the fiber surface and the important role of polymer coating.  相似文献
