High-performance liquid chromatographic analysis of free long chain fatty acids produced during lipolysis by anaerobic digestor sludge

The development of sample extraction techniques in conjunction with application of a modified version of an established HPLC technique allowed the rapid estimation of concentrations of long chain fatty acids (LCFA) produced by the lipolytic activity of bacteria in anaerobic digestor sludges or experiments using the sludges as inocula. It was established that free long chain fatty acids will preferentially partition into certain phases in the sludge or experimental cultures. These data, and application of the developed techniques for monitoring of LCFA, may lead to the avoidance of toxicity and failure of full-scale anaerobic digestors treating high lipid content waste in the future.     

AROMATIC AND HETEROCYCLIC NITRILES AND THEIR POLYMERS ⅩⅦ. THE POLYMERIZATION KINETICS OF CYANOPYRIDINES AND CHARACTERIZATION OF THE FORMED POLYMER*

The polymerization rates of three cyanopyridines catalyzed by cuprous chloride-zinc system are measured, and the structure of the formed polymer is also determined. Compared with aromatic nitrile, cyanopyridines polymerize faster and form polyconjugated polymer with skeleton—(C=N)—_n instead of triazine structure. This chain-polymer possesses semiconductive property, and can be converted into conductive material by thermal treatment. In addition, the polymerization kinetics of 3-cyanopyridine catalyzed by 3-cyanopyridinium perchlorate is investigated. It is found that the polymerization rate is directly proportional to the concentrations of monomer and catalyst, and the activation energy of the polymerization is 103.1 KJ/mol.     

Esterification of C1−C8 carboxylic acids to n-butyl esters in aqueous solutions for their gas chromatographic analysis

Summary The esterification of C₁–C₈ fatty acid in aqueous solutions and in the presence of sulfuric or hydrochloric acid and with n-butanol is described. It has been established that the esterification can be used for the quantitative determination of these fatty acids in the concentration ratio range of [H₂O]/[n-BuOH]=0.01–5.3. In the concentration ratio range of 0.01–0.8 the water present does not interfere. In the concentration range of above 0.8 anhydrous sodium sulfate is used for binding the water, in the amount of [Na₂SO₄.anh.]/[H₂O]0.2.     

A new approach to β-amino acids: biotransformation of N-protected β-amino nitriles

A number of novel N-protected β-amino nitriles were prepared as substrates for two nitrile-converting microorganisms, Rhodococcus sp. R312 and Rhodococcus erythropolis NCIMB 11540. The respective biotransformation products, β-amino acids, are known to be pharmacological very potent compounds.     

羧酸铜催化反应的研究——Ⅰ.羧酸铜催化醛肟转变为睛

本文报道了在多种羧酸铜催化下,醛肟在含有氰基的溶剂中(如CH_3CN、CH_3OCH_2CH_2CN等),均可脱水转变成相应的腈。反应条件温和,产率较高。具有不同空间和电性效应取代基的羧酸铜对反应的产率影响不大。实验中还发现溶剂乙腈参与了上述反应。     

Synthesis and characterization of new soluble poly（aryl ether nitrile）s containing phthalazinone moiety

A series of novel poly（aryl ether nitrile）s containing phthalazinone moiety were synthesized by the nucleophilic displacement reaction of bisphenol-like monomers （I） with 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile. The inherent viscosities ranged from 0.46 to 1.07 dL g^-1. The glass transition temperatures were in the range of 277-295℃, and the temperatures for 10% weight loss in nitrogen atmosphere were found between 495 and 527 ℃. The structures of these resultant polymers were confirmed by FT-IR and 1^H NMR. Moreover, the properties of poly（aryl ether nitrile）s including solubility and crystallinity were also studied.     

AROMATIC AND HETEROCYCLIC DINITRILES AND THEIR POLYMERS ⅪⅤ. STUDY ON THE CATALYSTS OF THE POLYMERIZATION OF AROMATIC NITRILES*

Various catalysts for the polymerization ot aromatic nitriles were investigated. It was found that Lewis acid-metal is a preferable catalyst system for the polymerization of aromatic nitriles, and the polymerization rate is about 10 times faster than Lewis acid alone. The polymerization rate of benzonitrile catalyzed by Lewis acid and different metals was measured, and the activity of metals was in the following decreasing order ,magnesium, zinc, sodium, calcium. Furthermore, the polymerization of benzonitrile catalyzed by different Lewis acid and zinc was also investigated.     

Characterization and purification of fatty acid methyl esters from the liver oil of the deep sea shark (Centrophorus squamosus) by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and countercurrent chromatography

Summary In the course of our studies on the location of marine products, we have directed our attention to the saponifiable fraction of the liver oil from the deep sea shark (Centrophorus squamosus). Different analytical and preparative techniques, such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), countercurrent chromatography (CCC), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry [GC-MS, electron impact (EI) and positive-ion chemical ionization (PCI)] were used. These methods allowed us to characterize, after various derivatizations, most of the fatty acids formed after the saponification of the oil, and to purify two of them, namely: docosahexaenoic acid (DHA or 226) and docosamonoenoic acid (DMA or 221).     

Determination of particulate fatty acids as P-bromophenacyl- or phenylphenacylesters using HPLC

Summary A method for the determination of fatty acids of the molecular weight range of propionic to erucic acid is reported. The acids are converted to either p-bromophenacyl-or p-phenylphenacylesters and the esters are separated by HPLC and detected by UV-absorption. Twentytwo esters, including saturated, monoolefinic and polyunsaturated ones were separated within one HPLC-run. The detection limit is about 5 pmol per fatty acid. The application of the method to particulate material is described.
