Optical properties of highly planar diketopyrrolopyrrole derivatives fixed by coordinate bonds

Diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) derivatives bearing 2-pyridyl groups were synthesized, which could serve as anionic N,N′-chelate ligands consisting of two nitrogen atoms of the lactam moieties and the pyridyl groups. Coordination of the DPP ligand to boron and platinum yielded the corresponding DPP complexes. Their crystal structures exhibited coplanar structures between the DPP core and the 2-pyridyl groups, which indicated extended π-conjugation. The maximum absorption wavelength of the DPP complexes was longer than that of the corresponding DPP ligands. The choice of the introduced element affects the optical properties of the DPP complexes; the platinum complex has a longer absorption wavelength than the boron complex. The theoretical calculation revealed that these absorptions can be attributed to the π–π* transition. The introduction of the coordinating elements predominantly lowers the band gap. In addition, the substituent on the 2-pyridyl group can also modulate the energy levels.     

Dopamine derivatives from the insect Polyrhachis dives as inhibitors of ROCK1/2 and stimulators of neural stem cell proliferation

Polyrhachis dives is consumed as an insect food in some regions of China. In this study, new dopamine derivatives, (+)-polyrhadopamine A (1a) and (−)-polyrhadopamine A (1b), (+)-polyrhadopamine B (2a) and (−)-polyrhadopamine B (2b), and polyrhadopamines C–E (3–5), were isolated from this species. The structures and stereochemistry of these substances were assigned by using spectroscopic and computational methods. Compounds 1a, 1b, 2a, and 2b are dimeric N-acetyldopamine derivatives, 3 is a dopamine analog containing an unusual sulfone group, and 4 and 5 possess a rare benzo[d]thiazole moiety. The functions of these substances as ROCK1/2 inhibitors, neural stem cell (NSCs) proliferation stimulators, immunosuppressive, and anti-inflammatory agents were determined.     

Design,synthesis, and characterization of fullerene–peptide–steroid covalent hybrids

The present study reports the synthesis, spectral characterization, self-assembly properties, and preliminary in vitro study of antioxidant capacity of two triple covalent hybrids consisting of fullerene C₆₀, peptide, and steroidal moiety. Previously synthesized fulleropyrrolidinic acid and pregnenolone were connected by peptide linker using a multistep DCC/DMAP and/or EDC/HOBT esterification/amidation procedure. The hybrids were characterized by comparative analysis of spectroscopic data obtained from FTIR, UV–vis, HRMS, and extensive NMR experiments (¹H, ¹³C, COSY, HSQC, and HMBC). The self-assembling properties and morphology of triads samples prepared by drop-drying method were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Preliminary in vitro antioxidant activity was studied by Ferrous ion Oxidation-Xylenol orange (FOX) method.     

Asymmetric synthesis of the four stereoisomers of 5-deoxystrigol

Two approaches to the strigolactone tricyclic lactone skeleton 2 were investigated using ketene/ketene-iminium cycloaddition to olefins. Finally, the first enantioselective access to the four stereoisomers of 5-deoxystrigol 1 is reported using an intramolecular [2+2] cycloaddition of homochiral ketene-iminium salts 5. Very high asymmetric control was achieved with C-2 symmetric pyrrolidines as chiral auxiliary.     

Titanocene-catalyzed metallation of propargylic acetates in homopropargyl alcohol synthesis

The titanium-catalyzed metallation and subsequent carbonyl addition of propargylic acetates enable the direct formation of homopropargylic alcohols in good yields. The corresponding products were obtained as single regioisomers without the corresponding allene adducts observed.     

BF3·OEt2-catalyzed synthesis of 1-(tetrahydropyran-3-yl)-1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran and trans-fused hexahydropyrano[3,2-c]chromene derivatives

A novel intramolecular Prins cyclization of (E)-5-(2-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl)pent-4-en-1-ol with aldehydes has been achieved using 10 mol % BF₃·Et₂O to produce 1-(tetrahydropyran-3-yl)-1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran derivatives in good to excellent yields with high selectivity. Similar type of coupling with salicylaldehydes provides the trans-fused hexahydropyrano[3,2-c]chromene derivatives in excellent yields.     

Synthesis of structurally diverse diarylketones through the diarylmethyl sp CH oxidation

Under open-flask conditions, an efficient method to assemble a series of diversely functionalized diarylketones in the presence of commercially available NBS has been developed. Yields of up to 99% have been achieved employing diarylmethanes as starting material. Based on ¹⁸O-labeled experiment, the addition of stoichiometric water eventually leads to excellent yields in all carbonylation cases.     

An evidence of contact ion pair in β-(acyloxy)alkyl radical heterolysis during copper(I)-mediated synthesis of trisubstituted alkenes

The first evidence for a unified mechanism of heterolysis in β-(acyloxy)alkyl radical involving contact ion pair (CIP) is presented for both fragmentation and rearrangement of the acyloxy group in the reaction of 1-alkoxy-2,2,2-trichloroethyl acetate with 2 mol equiv each of CuCl and bpy in refluxing DCE under a N₂ atmosphere and availed this reaction for the synthesis of Z-stereoselective trisubstituted alkenes. The stereochemistry of the trisubstituted alkenes was assigned by the uniform pattern of the chemical shift values of some relevant signals in ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectra. This assignment was further supported by the X-ray diffraction spectroscopy of Z-1-chloro-2-(4-nitrobenzyloxy)vinyl acetates.
