A dynamic supramolecular approach is developed to promote the π-dimerization of viologen radicals at room temperature and in standard concentration ranges. The approach involves cis- or trans-protected palladium centers serving as inorganic hinges linking two functionalized viologens endowed with metal-ion coordinating properties. Based on detailed spectroscopic, electrochemical and computational data, we show that the one-electron electrochemical reduction of the viologen units in different dynamic metal/ligand mixtures leads to the formation of the same intramolecular π-dimer, regardless of the initial environment around the metallic precursor and of the relative ratio between metal and ligand initially introduced in solution. The large-scale electron-triggered reorganization of the building blocks introduced in solution thus involves drastic changes in the stoichiometry and stereochemistry of the palladium/viologen complexes proceeding in some cases through a palladium centered trans→cis isomerization of the coordinated ligands. 相似文献

A series of new push–pull organic dyes ( BT‐I – VI ), incorporating electron‐withdrawing bithiazole with a thiophene, furan, benzene, or cyano moiety, as π spacer have been synthesized, characterized, and used as the sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In comparison with the model compound T1 , these dyes containing a thiophene moiety between triphenylamine and bithiazole display enhanced spectral responses in the red portion of the solar spectrum. Electrochemical measurement data indicate that the HOMO and LUMO energy levels can be tuned by introducing different π spacers between the bithiazole moiety and cyanoacrylic acid acceptor. The incorporation of bithiazole substituted with two hexyl groups is highly beneficial to prevent close π–π aggregation, thus favorably suppressing charge recombination and intermolecular interaction. The overall conversion efficiencies of DSSCs based on bithiazole dyes are in the range of 3.58 to 7.51 %, in which BT‐I ‐based DSSCs showed the best photovoltaic performance: a maximum monochromatic incident photon‐to‐current conversion efficiency (IPCE) of 81.1 %, a short‐circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) of 15.69 mA cm?2, an open‐circuit photovoltage (Voc) of 778 mV, and a fill factor (ff) of 0.61, which correspond to an overall conversion efficiency of 7.51 % under standard global AM 1.5 solar light conditions. Most importantly, long‐term stability of the BT‐I – III ‐based DSSCs with ionic‐liquid electrolytes under 1000 h of light soaking was demonstrated and BT‐II with a furan moiety exhibited better photovoltaic performance of up to 5.75 % power conversion efficiency. 相似文献

New, strongly fluorescent benzo[1,2‐d:4,5‐d′]bisimidazoles have been prepared by the reaction of Bandrowski′s base with various aldehydes. Their structures were carefully designed to achieve efficient excited‐state intramolecular proton transfer and good two‐photon‐absorption (2PA) cross‐sections. Functional dyes that possessed both high fluorescence quantum yields and large Stokes shifts were prepared. A π‐expanded D‐A‐D derivative that possessed Φfl=50 % and σ2=230 GM in the spectroscopic area of interest for biological imaging is an excellent candidate as a fluorescent probe. Thanks to the presence of two reactive amino groups, such compounds can be easily transformed into probes for bioconjugation. All of these benzo[1,2‐d:4,5‐d′]bisimidazoles were also strongly fluorescent in the solid state. 相似文献

Two donor–acceptor molecular tweezers incorporating the 10‐(1,3‐dithiol‐2‐ylidene)anthracene unit as donor group and two cyanoacrylic units as accepting/anchoring groups are reported as metal‐free sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells. By changing the phenyl spacer with 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) units, the absorption spectrum of the sensitizer is red‐shifted with a corresponding increase in the molar absorptivity. Density functional calculations confirmed the intramolecular charge‐transfer nature of the lowest‐energy absorption bands. The new dyes are highly distorted from planarity and are bound to the TiO2 surface through the two anchoring groups in a unidentate binding form. A power‐conversion efficiency of 3.7 % was obtained with a volatile CH3CN‐based electrolyte, under air mass 1.5 global sunlight. Photovoltage decay transients and ATR‐FTIR measurements allowed us to understand the photovoltaic performance, as well as the surface binding, of these new sensitizers. 相似文献

This article describes a series of nine complexes of boron difluoride with 2′‐hydroxychacone derivatives. These dyes were synthesized very simply and exhibited intense NIR emission in the solid state. Complexation with boron was shown to impart very strong donor–acceptor character into the excited state of these dyes, which further shifted their emission towards the NIR region (up to 855 nm for dye 5 b , which contained the strongly donating triphenylamine group). Strikingly, these optical features were obtained for crystalline solids, which are characterized by high molecular order and tight packing, two features that are conventionally believed to be detrimental to luminescence in organic crystals. Remarkably, the emission of light from the π‐stacked molecules did not occur at the expense of the emission quantum yield. Indeed, in the case of pyrene‐containing dye 4 , for example, a fluorescence quantum yield of about 15 % with a fluorescence emission maximum at 755 nm were obtained in the solid state. Moreover, dye 3 a and acetonaphthone‐based compounds 1 b , 2 b , and 3 b showed no evidence of degradation as solutions in CH2Cl2 that contained EtOH. In particular, solutions of brightly fluorescent compound 3 a (brightness: ε×Φf=45 000 M ?1 cm?1) could be stored for long periods without any detectable changes in its optical properties. All together, these new dyes possess a set of very interesting properties that make them promising solid‐state NIR fluorophores for applications in materials science. 相似文献

Dye‐sensitized graphene oxide is able to generate hydrogen from water/methanol mixtures (80:20) by using visible or solar light. The most efficient photocatalyst tested contained a tris(2,2‐bipyridyl) ruthenium(II) complex incorporated in the interlayer spaces of a few layers of graphene oxide with a moderate degree of oxidation. The graphene oxide‐based photocatalyst does not contain noble metals and we have determined that it is two orders of magnitude more active than catalysts based on conventional titania. 相似文献

Photostable and bright fluorescent dyes with large Stokes shifts are widely used as markers in far‐field optical microscopy, but the variety of useful dyes is limited. The present study introduces new 3‐heteroaryl coumarins decorated with a primary phosphate group (OP(O)(OH)2) attached to C‐4 in 2,2,4‐trimethyl‐1,2‐dihydroquinoline fragment fused with the coumarin fluorophore. The general synthetic route is based on the Suzuki reaction of 3‐bromocoumarines with hetarylboronic acids followed by oxidation of the methyl group at the C?C bond with SeO2 (to an aldehyde), reduction with NaBH4 (to an alcohol), and conversion into a primary phosphate. The 4 position in the coumarin system may be unsubstituted or bear a methyl group. Phosphorylated coumarins were found to have high fluorescence quantum yields in the free state and after conjugation with proteins (in aqueous buffers). In super‐resolution light microscopy with stimulated emission depletion (STED), the new coumarin dyes provide an optical resolution of 40–60 nm with a low background signal. Due to their large Stokes shifts and high photostability, phosphorylated coumarins enable to combine multilabel imaging (using one detector and several excitation sources) with diffraction unlimited optical resolution. 相似文献

A new series of aza‐BODIPY derivatives ( 4 a – 4 c , 5 a , c , and 6 b , c ) were synthesized and their excited‐state properties, such as their triplet excited state and the yield of singlet‐oxygen generation, were tuned by substituting with heavy atoms, such as bromine and iodine. The effect of substitution has been studied in detail by varying the position of halogenation. The core‐substituted dyes showed high yields of the triplet excited state and high efficiencies of singlet‐oxygen generation when compared to the peripheral‐substituted systems. The dye 6 c , which was substituted with six iodine atoms on the core and peripheral phenyl ring, showed the highest quantum yields of the triplet excited state (ΦT=0.86) and of the efficiency of singlet‐oxygen generation (ΦΔ=0.80). Interestingly, these dyes were highly efficient as photooxygenation catalysts under artificial light, as well as under normal sunlight conditions. The uniqueness of these aza‐BODIPY systems is that they are stable under irradiation conditions, possess strong red‐light absorption (620–680 nm), exhibit high yields of singlet‐oxygen generation, and act as efficient and sustainable catalysts for photooxygenation reactions. 相似文献

In order to form suitable systems designed for resonance energy transfer, a series of monodisperse methacrylate‐based monomers containing rigid π‐conjugated oligo(phenylene ethynylenes) with different sizes of the conjugated systems ( M1 – M3 ), and therefore different optoelectronic properties, were synthesized and subsequently polymerized using the reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization technique ( P1 – P3 ). In addition, these oligomers were also copolymerized with methyl methacrylate. The obtained polymers were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography, and analytical ultracentrifugation. The photophysical properties of the polymers were studied by UV–vis absorption and emission spectroscopy in diluted solutions as well as in thin films and compared to the photophysics of the corresponding monomers. Thereby, changes going from monomeric to polymeric systems could be detected in fluorescence quantum yields and lifetimes pointing to energy trapping, e.g., energy transfer. Donor–acceptor copolymers containing different numbers of monomeric units within the side chain exhibit differences in the emission spectra, indicating that energy trapping in polymers is very sensitive to structural properties such as the chain length. UV–vis absorption spectroscopy as well as time‐resolved lifetime studies indicate intrapolymer and interpolymer energy transfer. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The focus of this review is on host-guest composites with photonic antenna properties. The material generally consists of cylindrical zeolite L crystals the channels of which are filled with dye molecules. The synthesis is based on the fact that molecules can diffuse into individual channels. This means that, under the appropriate conditions, they can also leave the zeolite by the same way. In some cases, however, it is desirable to block their way out by adding a closure molecule. Functionalization of the closure molecules allows tuning of, for example, wettability, refractive index, and chemical reactivity. The supramolecular organization of the dyes inside the channels is a first stage of organization. It allows light harvesting within a certain volume of a dye-loaded nanocrystalline zeolite and radiationless transport to both ends of the cylinder or from the ends to the center. The second stage of organization is the coupling to an external acceptor or donor stopcock fluorophore at the ends of the channels, which can trap or inject electronic excitation energy. The third stage of organization is the coupling to an external device through a stopcock molecule. The wide-ranging tunability of these highly organized materials offers fascinating new possibilities for exploring excitation-energy-transfer phenomena, and challenges for developing new photonic devices. 相似文献
