Existence results for a degenerated nonlinear elliptic partial differential equation

The aim of this paper is to establish the existence of weak solutions to a steady state two-dimensional irrotational compressible flow around a thin profile. This flow is described by the small disturbance equations. If the speed of sound exceeds the fluid one, the governing equations remain elliptic. But when the fluid speed is beyond the sound one, the flow becomes locally hyperbolic and shock waves arise. For a modified elliptic model, using convexity arguments, we prove the existence of a solution which is the solution to the first model when the flow remains subsonic.     

Bifractional inequalities and convex cones

In this paper we give a systematic study of a class of linear inequalities related to convex cones in linear spaces. In particular, Chebyshev and Andersson type inequalities are discussed. Some classical and new inequalities are derived from the results.     

Dual decomposition of a single-machine scheduling problem

We design a fast ascent direction algorithm for the Lagrangian dual problem of the single-machine scheduling problem of minimizing total weighted completion time subject to precedence constraints. We show that designing such an algorithm is relatively simple if a scheduling problem is formulated in terms of the job completion times rather than as an 0–1 linear program. Also, we show that upon termination of such an ascent direction algorithm we get a dual decomposition of the original problem, which can be exploited to develop approximative and enumerative approaches for it. Computational results exhibit that in our application the ascent direction leads to good Lagrangian lower and upper bounds.

含三角函数的一般形式复杂对偶积分方程组的理论解

本文基于Gopson法，进行研究，改进，推广，应用于一般形式，复杂的对偶积分方程组的求解，首先引入函数进行方程组变换，其次引入未知函数的积分变换实现退耦，应用Abel反演变换，使方程组正则化为Fredholm第二类积分方程组，并由此给出对偶积分方程组的一般性解，本文给出的解法和理论解，可供求解复杂的数学，物理，力学中的混合边值问题参考，选用．同时也提供求解复杂的对偶积分方程组另一种有效的解法。     

Characteristic Elements of Unimodular -lattices

Characteristic elements have been useful in the classification of unimodular lattices over the integers. This article gives an explicit formula for characteristic elements of a lattice in terms of a basis for the lattice and the dual of that basis.     

Operational characteristics of dual gain single cavity Nd:YVO4 laser

Operational characteristics of a dual gain single cavity Nd:YVO₄ laser have been investigated. With semiconductor diode laser pump power of 2 W, 800 mW output was obtained with a slope efficiency of 49%. Further, by changing the relative orientation of the two crystals the polarization characteristics of the output could be varied. In particular by keeping the two Nd:YVO₄ crystals with their c-axes orthogonal to each other and adjusting the gain of the crystals so that both operate at approximately the same power level, completely unpolarized beams could be obtained.

On an Isomorphism Problem of Some Dual Hyperovals in PG(2d + 1, q) with q even

Let q = 2^l with l≥ 1 and d ≥ 2. We prove that any automorphism of the d-dimensional dual hyperoval over GF(q), constructed in [3] for any (d + 1)-dimensional GF(q)-vector subspace V in GF(qⁿ) with n≥ d + 1 and for any generator σ of the Galois group of GF(qⁿ) over GF(q), always fixes the special member X(∞). Moreover, we prove that, in case V = GF(q^d+1), two dual hyperovals and in PG(2d + 1,q), where σ and τ are generators of the Galois group of GF(q^d+1) over GF(q), are isomorphic if and only if (1) σ = τ or (2) σ τ = id. Therefore, we have proved that, even in the case q > 2, there exist non isomorphic d-dimensional dual hyperovals in PG(2d + 1,q) for d ≥ 3.
