We study infinitesimal properties of nonsmooth (nondifferentiable) functions on smooth manifolds. The eigenvalue function of a matrix on the manifold of symmetric matrices gives a natural example of such a nonsmooth function.
A subdifferential calculus for lower semicontinuous functions is developed here for studying constrained optimization problems, nonclassical problems of calculus of variations, and generalized solutions of first-order partial differential equations on manifolds. We also establish criteria for monotonicity and invariance of functions and sets with respect to solutions of differential inclusions.

This paper presents two differential systems, involving first and second order derivatives of problem functions, respectively, for solving equality-constrained optimization problems. Local minimizers to the optimization problems are proved to be asymptotically stable equilibrium points of the two differential systems. First, the Euler discrete schemes with constant stepsizes for the two differential systems are presented and their convergence theorems are demonstrated. Second, we construct algorithms in which directions are computed by these two systems and the stepsizes are generated by Armijo line search to solve the original equality-constrained optimization problem. The constructed algorithms and the Runge–Kutta method are employed to solve the Euler discrete schemes and the differential equation systems, respectively. We prove that the discrete scheme based on the differential equation system with the second order information has the locally quadratic convergence rate under the local Lipschitz condition. The numerical results given here show that Runge–Kutta method has better stability and higher precision and the numerical method based on the differential equation system with the second information is faster than the other one. 相似文献

is singular. For these systems we introduce a uniform differential time index and a differential space index. We show that in contrast to problems with regular matrices A and B the initial conditions and/or boundary conditions for problems with singular matrices A and B have to fulfill certain consistency conditions. Furthermore, two numerical methods for solving PDAEs are considered. In two theorems it is shown that there is a strong dependence of the order of convergence on these indexes. A planar constant-speed pursuit-evasion problem with dynamic model similar to the one of the homicidal chauffeur game and with prescribed angular constraints in the capture criterion is analyzed as a differential game of kind. Because of the angular constraints, the target set of the game has the shape of a circular angular sector. Conditions for the existence of the game barrier (closed) are obtained. Using these conditions, a necessary and sufficient condition for capture of a slower evader from any initial state of the game is established. This condition is represented by an expression for the minimal nondimensional capture radius, normalized by the pursuer minimal turning radius, which guarantees capture of all slower evaders. This minimal capture radius depends on the angular constraints. Capture from any initial state implies that the barrier of the game does not exist and vice versa. In this game, two types of barrier are derived, with termination at either points of smoothness or points of nonsmoothness (corner points) of the boundary of the target set. A dynamically adaptive numerical method for solving multi-dimensional evolution problems with localized structures is developed. The method is based on the general class of multi-dimensional second-generation wavelets and is an extension of the second-generation wavelet collocation method of Vasilyev and Bowman to two and higher dimensions and irregular sampling intervals. Wavelet decomposition is used for grid adaptation and interpolation, while O ( N ) hierarchical finite difference scheme, which takes advantage of wavelet multilevel decomposition, is used for derivative calculations.
