Polyadic codes of prime power length

Polyadic codes constitute a special class of cyclic codes and are generalizations of quadratic residue codes, duadic codes, triadic codes, m-adic residue codes and split group codes, which have good error-correcting properties. In this paper, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of polyadic codes of prime power length. Examples of some good codes arising from the family of polyadic codes of prime power length are also given.     

New classes of 2-weight cyclic codes

We introduce new classes of 2-weight cyclic codes which are direct sums of 1-weight irreducible cyclic codes      

Representations, convolution square roots and spherical vectors

We extend results on square integrable representations of a locally compact group to subrepresentations of a representations induced from a character of a closed subgroup. We do so working in the framework of quotient representations of ∗-algebras.     

The effect of ITO films thickness on the properties of flexible organic light emitting diode

Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films were deposited on cyclic olefin copolymer substrate at room temperature by an inverse target sputtering system. The crystal structure and the surface morphology of the deposited ITO films were examined by X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy, separately. The electrical properties of the conductive films were explored by four-point probing. Visible spectrometer was used to measure the optical properties of ITO-coated films. The performance of the flexible organic light emitting diode device with different thickness anode was investigated in this study.     

Cyclic cohomology and algebra extensions

We construct a spectral sequence to study cyclic cohomology for an extension A = R/I of algebras. When R is a free algebra we describe the cyclic cohomology of A in terms of traces defined on R or powers of I. Explicit cyclic cocycles representing the cyclic cohomology class belonging to the trace are constructed as analogues of Chern character and Chern-Simons forms.Dedicated to Alexander Grothendieck     

Cyclic networks with general blocking and starvation

We introducegeneral starvation and consider cyclic networks withgeneral blocking and starvation (GBS). The mechanism of general blocking allows the server to process a limited number of jobs when the buffer downstream is full, and that of general starvation allows the server to perform a limited number of services in anticipation of jobs that are yet to arrive. The two main goals of this paper are to investigate how the throughput of cyclic GBS networks is affected by varying (1) the total number of jobsJ, and (2) the buffer allocationk=(k₁..., k_m) subject to a fixed total buffer capacityK=k ₁ +... + k_m. In particular, we obtain sufficient conditions for the throughput to be symmetric inJ and to be maximized whenJ=K/2. We also show that the equal buffer allocation is optimal under the two regimes of light or heavy usage. In order to establish these results, we obtain several intermediate structural properties of the throughput, using duality, reversibility, and concavity, which are of independent interest.Research supported in part by NSF Grant No. ECS-8919818.     

Noncommutative differential geometry on the quantum SU(2), I: An algebraic viewpoint

We compute the cyclic homology of the coordinate ring A(SL_q(2)) of the quantum algebraic group SL _q (2). We observe a degeneration of the noncommutative de Rham complex. The results are also verified from the point of view of Connes' noncommutative differential geometry.     

Synthesis and electrochemistry of Group 6 tetracarbonyl (N,N′-bis(ferrocenylmethylene)ethylenediamine)metal(0) complexes

Thermal substitution reaction of Cr(CO)₄(η^2:2-1,5-cyclooctadiene), Mo(CO)₄(η^2:2-norbornadiene), and W(CO)₅(η²-bis(trimethylsilyl)ethyne) with N,N′-bis(ferrocenylmethylene)ethylenediamine (bfeda) yields M(CO)₄(bfeda) complexes which could be isolated from the reaction solution and characterized by elemental analysis, MS, IR, and NMR spectroscopy. In the case of tungsten, W(CO)₅(bfeda) is formed as intermediate and then undergoes the ring closure reaction yielding the ultimate product W(CO)₄(bfeda). The electrochemical behavior of the M(CO)₄(bfeda) complexes was studied by using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in dichloromethane with tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate as electrolyte. Constant potential electrolysis of the complexes was performed successively at their peak potentials at 0 °C in their CH₂Cl₂ solution and the electrolysis was followed by in situ recording the electronic absorption spectra in every 5 mC. In the electrolysis of Cr(CO)₄(bfeda), the central Cr(0) is oxidized first and electrolysis continues with oxidations of two ferrocenyl groups until the end of totally three moles of electron passage per mole of complex. In the electrolysis of Mo(CO)₄(bfeda) and W(CO)₄(bfeda) the first oxidation occurs on the central atom forming a short-lived species which undergoes an intramolecular one-electron transfer and is reduced back to M(0) while one of the ferrocene units is oxidized to the ferrocenium cation at the same time. This indicates that the electron is transferred from iron to the central metal atom.     

Voltammetric determination of hafnium with calconcarboxylic acid

The interaction of Hf(IV) with calconcarboxylic acid (1-(2-hydroxy-4-sulfo-1-naphtylazo)-3-naphtolic acid) was investigated by cyclic voltammetry varying various factors (pH, ionic strength, contents of ethanol and scan rate). Optimal conditions of Hf(IV) determination in the presence of calconcarboxylic acid were found: acetic buffer solution pH 2.6, scan rate 0.5 Vs⁻¹. The detection limit of Hf(IV) concentration was 2.46 × 10⁻⁷ mol L⁻¹. The influence of foreign ions on the Hf(IV) determination was studied. It was established that some metals like cadmium, nickel, zinc, copper and titanium could be determined with Hf(IV) simultaneously. The method of voltammetric determination of hafnium was tested on model solutions and used in the determination of Hf(IV) in terbium-base alloy.     

Nilpotency of Connes'' periodicity operator and the idempotent conjectures

For certain classes of discrete groups we verify the idempotent conjectures for various group algebras by the method of cyclic cohomology. In particular, the Banach ¹ (G) of a torsion free word hyperbolic groupG of Gromov contains no nontrivial idempotents.
