Synthesis of Derivatives of of Δ2-Imidazolin-5-one and Imidazolidine Containing Residues of Sterically-hindered Phenols

1-Substituted 4-benzylidene-2-{-[3,5-di(tert-butyl)-4-hydroxyphenyl]vinyl}-4-benzylidene-²-imidazolin-5-ones have been synthesized by the interaction of azomethines and N-acylhydrazones (derivatives of 3,5-di(tert-butyl)-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde) with 4-benzylidene-2-methyloxazol-5-one. The acylation of 1,2-bis[3,5-di(tert-butyl)-4-hydroxybenzylideneamino]ethane with acid chlorides in acetonitrile in the presence of triethylamine leads to 1,3-diacyl-2-[3,5-di(tert-butyl)-4-hydroxyphenyl]imidazolidine.     

On the Existence and Hydrolytic Stability of Titanosiloxane Bonds in the System: Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane-Water-Titaniumtetraethoxide

Heterometal materials based on glycidoxypropyltrialkoxysilane and titaniumalkoxide are used for optical applications and require a high homogeneity on the molecular level. The presence of heterometal titanosiloxanes, their distribution and hydrolytic stability should influence the homogeneity of these materials. 29Si and 17O NMR spectroscopy has been used to investigate sols with molar ratios Si : Ti = 1 and H2O : OR (H) = 0.5 – 2.0 and their gels after heat treatment at 130°C. The presence of Si—O—Ti bonds in sols with a low water content (H < 0.2) and in the corresponding gels was identified by the high-field shift of the 29Si NMR signals of T1 and T2 units of up to 2–3 ppm compared to corresponding signals of homo-condensed Si—O—Si bonds. The existence of Si—O—Ti bonds in the sols is supported by 17O NMR spectra which show a characteristic signal around 340 ppm. A cleavage of the Si—O—Ti bonds occurs with increasing water/OR ratio in the sols. The cleavage of the heterometal bonds and the building up of homo-condensed species leads to a separation into areas with predominantly Ti—O—Ti and Si—O—Si bonds resulting in a decreased molecular homogeneity of the materials.     

Cluster Chemsitry. 96. Penta- and hexa-nuclear ruthenium cluster complexes derived from reactions of cyclopentadienes with Ru5(μ5-C2PPh2)(μ-PPh2)(CO)13

The reactions between Ru₅( ₅-C₂PPh₂)(gm-PPh₂(CO)₁₃ (1) and cyclopentadienes afforded the hexanuclear clusters Ru₆( ₆-C)( ₃-PPh₂)₂(CO)₁₀(-C₅ R ₅) [R ₅ = H₅ (2), H₄Me (3), Me₅ (4)] which contain an encapsulated carbide and a face-capping ₃-CH group, formed by cleavage of CC and CP bonds of the C₂PPh₂ moiety in1. In the reaction with cyclopentadiene, the unusual ligand C₁₃H₁₂O, formed by combination of C₂, CO and two molecules of C₅H₆ (or one molecule of dicyclopentadien), was characterized in the complex Ru₅( ₄-PPh) ( ₄-C₁₃H₁₂O)(-PPh₂(CO)₁₁(-C₅H₅) (5). In the reaction with pentamethylcyclopentadiene, the vinylidene complex Ru₅( ₃-CCHPh)( ₄-PPh)( ₄-PPh) (-PPh₂)(CO)₉(-C₅Me₅) (6) was also formed.     

The Mitsunobu Reaction: Origin,Mechanism, Improvements,and Applications

The Mitsunobu reaction is a widely used and versatile method for the dehydrative oxidation–reduction condensation of an acid/pronucleophile usually with a primary or secondary alcohol that requires the combination of a reducing phosphine reagent together with an oxidizing azo reagent. The utility of this reaction stems from the fact that it is generally highly stereoselective and occurs with inversion of the stereochemical configuration of the alcohol starting material. Furthermore, as carboxylic acids, phenols, imides, sulfonamides, and other compounds can be used as the acid/pronucleophile, this reaction is useful for the preparation of a wide variety of functional groups. This Focus Review of the Mitsunobu reaction summarizes its origins, the current understanding of its mechanism, and recent improvements and applications.     

17O NMR Investigation of Chemical Homogeneity in Hybrid Systems

¹⁷O NMR experiments using enriched water were performed to followthe hydrolysis-condensation process of dimethyldiethoxysilanetetraethoxysilane and a 1/1 mixture of dimethyldiethoxysilane andtetraethoxysilane (H₂O/OEt = 0.5; pH = 2). The spectrarecorded over several hours time period were simulated to followquantitatively the variations of residual water, hydroxyl groups(Si–¹⁷ H) and oxo bridges (Si–¹⁷ –Si). Presence of a resonance signal due oxo bridges between di- andtetrafunctional Si units clearly demonstrates that co-condensationreactions occur to a large extent between the two alkoxides, and that thesebonds are stable during the aging period.

Synthesis of pyrido[3,4-<Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis>]pyrimidines by condensation of ethyl 1-benzyl-3-oxopiperidine-4-carboxylate with morpholine-4-carboxamidine

Synthesis and Reactions of Polyhedral Compounds. 27. Development of a Synthetic Route for 2- Spiro-substituted 6-Hydroxy-5,7-dimethyl-1,3-diazaadamantanes

Alternative methods for the synthesis of 2-spiro-substituted 6-hydroxy-5,7-dimethyl-1,3-diazaadamantanes have been developed. These are the reduction of the ketone group to hydroxyl in the corresponding 6-oxo-1,3-diazaadamantanes and the condensation of 9-hydroxy-1,5-dimethyl-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane (obtained by different routes from 5,7-dimethyl-6-oxo-1,3-diazaadamantane) in reaction with cyclic ketones.
