The magnetic separation technique based on magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MNPs) has potential applications in protein adsorption and purification, enzyme immobilization, cell sorting, nucleic acid detachment, and drug release. However, the naked MNPs are often insufficient for their hydrophilicity, colloidal stability, and further functionalization. To overcome these limitations, chitosan was firstly carboxymethylated and then covalently conjugated on the surface of the MNPs ranging in size from about 5 to 15 nm, which were prepared by co-precipitating iron (II) and iron (III) in alkaline solution and then treating under hydrothermal conditions. It was found that such modification did not result in the phase change of the MNPs, and the resultant modified nanoparticles were still superparamagnetic. In particular, the colloidal stability of MNPs in aqueous suspension was improved after the surface modification. By investigating the adsorption of bovine serum albumin (BSA) on the modified MNPs, it was observed that the adsorption capacity of the BSA on the modified MNPs increased rapidly within several minutes and then reached the maximum value at about 10 min. The adsorption equilibrium isotherm could be fitted well by the Langmuir model. The medium pH affected greatly the adsorption of the BSA. The maximum adsorption of the BSA occurred at the pH value close to the isoelectric point of the BSA, with a saturation adsorption amount of 94.45 mg/g (25 °C). For the BSA feed concentration of 1.017 mg/ml, a high desorption percentage of 91.5% could be achieved under an alkaline condition (pH 9.4).  相似文献

The adsorption isosteres and isotherms of methane on the microporous carbon adsorbent PAU-10 were calculated using the Dubinin—Radushkevich equation taking into account nonideality of the gas phase. The conditions under which the adsorption isosteres are linear were outlined. The calculated and experimentally found adsorption isosteres were compared for the methane—PAU-10 system. In this article, the adsorption of cytosine and guanine molecules on the surface of Cr-doped C20 fullerene (C19Cr) and Ni-doped C20 fullerene (C19Ni) are studied using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations. In order to thoroughly comprehend the influences of the molecules on the metal-fullerene complexes, the geometric parameters, the binding energies, transferred charges, the magnitude of dipole moments, thermochemical parameters, frontier molecular orbitals, and the global indices of activities are calculated. The results highlighted that the interactions of both cytosine and guanine molecules with metal-fullerene complexes are highly exothermic, suggesting that these molecules might be chemisorbed on their adsorbents. The C19Cr exhibits a better adsorption behavior toward the molecules compared to C19Ni, and cytosine has the higher binding energies with metal-fullerene complexes in comparison with guanine. Further analyses showed that the C19Cr experiences significant changes in its electronic properties upon adsorption of the cytosine molecule. However, the small variations in the electronic properties of C19Ni after complexation with guanine indicate that this complex is not sensitive to the guanine. Furthermore, the results of frontier molecular orbital reveal the strong (moderate) interactions between the C19Cr with the cytosine (guanine) molecule and moderate (weak) interactions between the C19Ni with the cytosine (guanine) molecule. Therefore, the C19Cr and C19Ni have moderate sensitivities to cytosine and guanine molecules. More excitingly, our findings divulge promising potential of the Cr-fullerene complex as a biochemical adsorbent for cytosine.  相似文献
