The repulsive force originating from steric hindrance of polymers in aqueous solvent was investigated using scanning probe microscopy (SPM). The contact angle (CA) of ammonium poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) solution on the Si surface was measured to estimate the state of the Si substrate. Results of CA measurement show that the Si surface was fully covered with PAA at 0.1 mass% in aqueous solution. The interaction force between the Si tip and the wafer was estimated using the SPM force curve mode. The force curve measured in the ion-exchanged purified water showed the typical relation predicted by Derjaguin-Landau-Verway-Overbeek (DLVO) theory. However, the force curve shape in the 0.1 mass% PAA solution was significantly different. Only a repulsive force was observed at less than about 4 nm of separation distance between the Si wafer and cantilever tip. This distance originated from the steric repulsions of PAA adsorbed onto the Si wafer and cantilever tip.  相似文献

We use density functional theory to evaluate the stability of molybdenum disilicide coatings on a nickel substrate, as a possible bond coat alloy for high temperature coating applications. We consider the MoSi2(0 0 1)/Ni(1 1 1), MoSi2(1 0 0)/Ni(1 1 1), and MoSi2(1 1 0)/Ni(1 1 1) interfaces and predict quite strong (3.5-3.8 J/m2) adhesion of this metal-silicide ceramic to nickel. The origin of this strong adhesion is elucidated by examining the geometric and electronic structure of the interfaces. We predict that Mo and Si atoms at the interface primarily occupy Ni 3-fold hollow sites, the typical adsorption site on Ni(1 1 1). Projected local densities of states and electron density difference plots reveal a mixture of localized, covalent Si-Ni bonds and more delocalized metallic Mo-Ni bonding, as the origin of the strong interfacial bonding. As emphasized in our earlier work, creation of strong covalent bonds at interfaces results in very strong adhesion. Such strong adhesion makes MoSi2 a potential candidate for use in thermal barrier applications, in conjunction with a yttria-stabilized zirconia topcoat.  相似文献

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Thermal Analysis have been used to study the thermal and termooxidative degradation of polysiloxane coatings obtained by treating E-glass fiber with aqueous solutions of 3-chloropropyltriethoxysilane. Initial weight losses were due to polymerization of the coatings. Severe oxidative degradations were observed at temperatures above 180°C. At 550°C the residue of the coating was found to be silica with free silanol groups.  相似文献

The inner and the outer walls of hollow tubing with an inner diameter of 0.4-0.9 cm and an outer diameter of 0.6-1.3 cm were coated with silver nanoparticles (NPs) by a one-step process using ultrasound irradiation. The structure and morphology of the nanoparticles (NPs) inside the hollow tubing and on the outer surface were characterized using methods such as XRD, TEM, HR-TEM, and HRSEM. The inner surface of the tubing was found to be coated with more silver than the outer surface. The coating was done on tubing made of rubber, PVC, Teflon and polyethylene. Sonochemistry is demonstrated as a method for depositing nanoparticles on the inner wall of a tube.  相似文献

A comparison of steric and anchimeric effects on the hydrolytic stability of polyesters was studied. Twelve monomers were selected based on their propensity toward steric and anchimeric interactions: adipic acid, isophthalic acid, phthalic anhydride, hexahydrophthalic anhydride, 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, maleic anhydride, ethylene glycol, 1,2-propanediol, 1,3-propanediol 1,4-butanediol, 1,5-pentanediol, and neopentyl glycol. Hydroxyl terminated oligoesters consisting of one diacid and one diol and one hydroxyl terminated oligoester consisting of two diacids and one diol were prepared. The hydrolytic stability was evaluated in an acetone/water solution. The acid number was monitored as a function of time. It was found that telechelic groups favor anchimeric interactions, while steric groups determine the rate of hydrolysis for the main chain.  相似文献

Over the years the optimization of water-borne emulsion polymers has resulted in water-borne coatings with excellent exterior durability and significantly reduced solvent emissions versus solvent-borne coatings. In recent years, pressure to further reduce emissions has necessitated the use of softer polymer compositions which can negatively impact gloss and tint retention, and dirt pick up resistance. The use of heterogeneous polymer morphologies are addressing these short comings; however care must still be taken not to affect paint durability. The development of low solvent emission thickeners and mildewcides has allowed further reduction in paint emissions.  相似文献

Titanium/chromium interfaces produced by titanium thin film deposition on chromium substrates have been reactively mixed using ion-beams of 2 and 3 keV at room temperature (RT). The ion-beam mixing (IBM) has been analysed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), angle-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ARXPS) and Monte Carlo TRIDYN simulations. Below ∼2 × 1016 ions/cm2, the IBM kinetic is characterised by a strong decrease of the Ti concentration along with a fast nitrogen incorporation, that can be explained mainly by Ti sputtering and nitrogen implantation. Above that ion dose, the Ti/Cr ratio can be varied in a broad range maintaining nearly constant the nitrogen concentration (∼50%), as a consequence of sputtering, nitruration and mixing effects taking place simultaneously. ARXPS results show that the composition of the ternary films formed by reactive IBM is rather uniform in the near surface region. The comparison of experimental results with those obtained from TRIDYN, that uses pure ballistic mechanisms, suggests that the chemical reaction with the nitrogen partial pressure and processes driven by residual defects are the rate-controlling mechanisms during the reactive IBM of Ti/Cr interfaces.  相似文献

The development of electrodeposited materials with improved technological properties has been attracting the attention of researchers and companies from different industrial sectors. Many studies have demonstrated that the electrodeposition and synthesis of alloys and composite materials assisted by ultrasound may promote the de-agglomeration of particles in the electrolytic solution due to microturbulence, microjets, shock waves, and breaking of Van der Waals forces. The sonoelectrochemical technique, in which the ultrasound probe acts as a working electrode, also has been used for the formation of nanostructures in greater quantity, in addition to accelerating the electrolysis process and eliminating the reaction products on the electrode surface. Regarding the morphological aspects, the acoustic cavitation promotes the formation of smooth and uniform surfaces with incorporated particles homogeneously distributed. These changes have a direct impact on the composition and physical properties of the material, such as corrosion resistance, magnetization, wear, and microhardness. Despite the widespread use of acoustic cavitation in the synthesis of nanostructured materials, the discussion of how process variables such as acoustic power, frequency, and type of ultrasound device, as well as their effects still are scarce. In this sense, this review discusses the influence of ultrasound technology on obtaining electrodeposited coatings. The trends and challenges in this research field were reviewed from 2014 to 2019. Moreover, the effects of process variables in electrodeposition and how these ones change the technological properties of these materials were evaluated.  相似文献
