ABSTRACTDrug delivery using metal-organic frameworks (MOF) has elicited interest in their biocompatibility; however, few studies have been conducted on their stability in common buffers, cell media, and blood proteins. In particular, the use of ZIF-8, a MOF interconnected by Zn and methylimidazole, has been frequently employed. In this study, we tested single crystals of ZIF-8 with common laboratory buffers, cell media, and serum, and noted several issues. Buffers containing phosphate and bicarbonate alter the appearance and composition of ZIF-8; however, these buffers do not appear to cause cargo to leak out even when the ZIF-8 itself is displaced by phosphates. On the other hand, serum dissolves ZIF-8, causing premature cargo release. Our results show that ZIF-8 undergoes surface chemistry changes that may affect the interpretation of cellular uptake and cargo release data. On the other hand, it provides a rational explanation as to how ZIF-8 neatly dissolves in vivo. 相似文献

The structure of two classes of water molecule frameworks built up of 512(D), 51262(T), 51263(P), and 51264(H) polyhedra is discussed. Polyhedral layers can be distinguished in the frameworks. The centers of the polyhedra belonging to a layer are at the nodes of planar networks consisting of triangular, pentagonal, and hexagonal meshes. The structure of one network determines exclusively the topology of the entire framework. Frameworks on 3–6 nets can be constructed of two types of polyhedral blocks: D3T2P2and D2T6. Frameworks on 3–5–6 nets might include both specific blocks and the blocks involved in the frameworks on 3–5 and 3–6 nets. The paper analyzes the structure of frameworks on the nets built as a series of rows, each of these rows being constructed of pentagons or hexagons exclusively. Increased attention is being focused on metal-organic frameworks as candidates for hydrogen storage materials. This is a result of their many favorable attributes, such as high porosity, reproducible and facile syntheses, amenability to scale-up, and chemical modification for targeting desired properties. A discussion of several strategies aimed at improving hydrogen uptake in these materials is presented. These strategies include the optimization of pore size and adsorption energy by linker modification, impregnation, catenation, and the inclusion of open metal sites and lighter metals. 相似文献

Pd nanoparticles have been successfully supported on nanoscale metal-organic frameworks (NMOFs) by using a simple and effective microwave-assisted impregnation process. The resulting composite, representing as a highly active NMOFs supported metal nanoparticles catalyst for the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction between aryl/heteroaryl halides and arylboronic acids, is well characterized, and its high activity and good recyclability are discussed in details. As an important member of crystalline porous polymers, acylhydrazone-linked covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have gained much attention in recent years. However, the low structural stability imparts a limit on their practical applications. To tackle this problem, we report a simple strategy to increase the chemical stability of acylhydrazone-linked COFs by incorporating azobenzene groups in the conjugated framework. Through reinforcing the π-π stacking interactions between the adjacent layers with increased π-surface, it is surprising to find that the resulting materials exhibit extreme stability in harsh environments, such as in strong acid, strong base, aqueous educing agent and boiling water, even exposed to air for one year. As a proof-of-concept, such frameworks have been used to remove various organic micropollutants such as antibiotics, plastic components, endocrine disruptors, and carcinogens from water with high capacity, fast speed and excellent reusability over a wide pH range at environmentally relevant concentrations. The results provide a new avenue to significantly enhance the stability of COFs for practical applications. 相似文献
