The M/M/c with critical jobs

We consider theM/M/c queue, where customers transfer to a critical state when their queueing (sojourn) time exceeds a random time. Lower and upper bounds for the distribution of the number of critical jobs are derived from two modifications of the original system. The two modified systems can be efficiently solved. Numerical calculations indicate the power of the approach.     

Flavour democracy calls for the fourth generation

It is argued with the help of an illustrative model, that the inter species hierarchy among the fermion masses and the quark mixing angles can be accommodated naturally in the standard model with (approximate) flavor democracy provided there are three exactly massless neutrinos and four families of sequential quark-leptons with all members of the fourth family having roughly equal masses. The special problem of light neutrino masses (if any) and possible solutions are also discussed.     

Direct and inverse multichannel scattering problems

We consider small oscillations of a system of pairwise interacting particles in an external field near a stable equilibrium. The system is assumed to consist of finitely many channels, i.e., semi-infinite linear chains of particles, attached to a scatterer, which is a finite system of interacting particles. Direct and inverse scattering problems are considered. In particular, an algorithm finding characteristics of the channels on the basis of scattering data is given.     

Biotechnological production of two new 8,4′-oxynorneolignans by elicitation of Echinacea purpurea cell cultures

Two new 8,4′-oxynorneolignans were produced by elicitation of Echinacea purpurea cell suspension cultures with yeast elicitor. Their structures with an unusual (hydroxy)acetyl group were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including gas chromatography (GC) and electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry.

给出了算子T=∑_(n=1)~∞T_n在H_B~p和BMO_(p,B)~-上有界的一些充分条件,其中T_n(n∈P)为具有Δ性质的算子.作为应用,借助于算子值鞅变换得到了关于鞅的矩型极大算子的强(p,p)型不等式和弱(1,1)型不等式,以及其在BMO_(p,B)~-上的有界性.这些结果与经典H~p鞅论中极大算子的性质相对应.

On tridiagonal conjugate-normal matrices

Conjugate-normal matrices play the same role in the theory of unitary congruences as conventional normal matrices do with respect to unitary similarities. Naturally, the properties of both matrix classes are fairly similar up to the distinction between the congruence and similarity. However, in certain respects, conjugate-normal matrices differ substantially from normal ones. Our goal in this paper is to indicate one of such distinctions. It is shown that none of the familiar characterizations of normal matrices having the irreducible tridiagonal form has a natural counterpart in the case of conjugate-normal matrices.
