We investigate the electronic properties of multiwalled carbon nanotubes both before and after acid treatment with concentrated sulphuric and nitric acids. Magnetic susceptibility measurements were performed using a SQUID magnetometer and show that there is a considerable enhancement in the density of states at the Fermi level. The data shows that the diamagnetic influence from the graphitic nanotubes dominates. We experimentally observe, after acid treatment, that the diamagnetic susceptibility remains unchanged at 5 K but notably decreases at 77 K. We propose the acid treatment has increased the Van Vleck paramagnetic contribution lowering the diamagnetic response from the π-electron orbital magnetisation. The Van Vleck paramagnetic contribution is finite-temperature dependent with a diminishing contribution at higher fields. 相似文献

Abstract A continuous dual 13CO2 and 15NH4 15NO3 labelling experimental set-up is presented that was used to investigate the C and N uptake and allocation within 3-year old beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) during one growing season. The C and N allocation pattern was determined after six, twelve and eighteen weeks of growth. The carbon uptake was distinctly different in the three phases examined: The first six weeks after budbreak were dedicated to leaf growth with a R/S (root to shoot) ratio of 0.14 for the new carbon. The second growth phase showed a balanced R/S ratio of C allocation and after week 13, the root compartment was the main carbon sink (R/S = 6.97). Nitrogen allocation was more basipetal as compared to carbon. In the second growth phase, R/S of Nnew was 5.57 but fell to 3.54 for the third growth phase probably due to formation of reserves in buds and stem. 相似文献

We present a novel protocol for deterministic secure quantum communication by using the lour-qubit cluster state as quantum channel. It is shown that two legitimate users can directly transmit the secret messages based on Bellbasis measurements and classical communication. The present protocol makes use of the ideas of block transmission and decoy particle checking technique. It has a high capacity as each cluster state can carry two 5its of information, and has a high intrinsic efficieney 5ecause almost all the instances except the decoy checking particles (its numSer is negligible) are useful. ABSTRACTFunctionalized modified SiO2 was prepared by a mild and simple dip coating method, and a layer of functionalized modified SiO2 coating was introduced onto the carbon fiber surfaces not only to improve the surface wettability and activity of carbon fiber, but also strengthen the interphase of the carbon fiber/polyimide composite. The successful functionalization of SiO2 by bis[3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl] tetrasulfide (TESPT) silane was confirmed. Moreover, a uniform coating with well-dispersed particles on a carbon fiber surface was achieved with a 1.0 wt% addition of TESPT-modified SiO2 (TESPT@SiO2) particles. Under this condition it was observed that the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and interfacial shear strength (IFSS) augmentation was 26.37% and 38.27%, respectively, in comparison with carbon fiber composite coated only with polyimide resin. The functionalized modified SiO2 coating could effectively heal the surface defects of fiber, and the fiber tensile strength increased by more than 10.61%. ABSTRACTThis paper will investigate wavelet packet transform of acoustic emission (AE) signal processing in order to identify failure mechanisms of unidirectional carbon/epoxy composites. For this purpose, carbon/epoxy composites were tested in tensile test by two different loading conditions. For the first specimen, the load was applied through fiber direction (T0) and for the second specimen, the load was applied perpendicular to the fiber direction (T90), AE signals were collected during experimental test procedure and the signal’s waveforms were decomposed into various wavelet levels that each includes details and approximations so-called. Each data is related to a specific frequency range. The results show that type and percentage of failure mechanisms in various loadings are different. In T0, four micro-failure mechanisms of matrix cracking, fiber/matrix debonding, fiber pull-out and fiber breakage were observed and Fiber pull-out was determined as main inter-phase failure mechanism. Multiwalled carbon nanotubes, CNTs (0.3–1.0 wt.%), were incorporated in the ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) matrix by solid state dry mixing in order to avoid the use of high temperature, solvents, and materials pretreatments. Physical, morphological, and mechanical tests were performed on both the pristine materials and the nanocomposites. Experimental results showed that the CNTs are homogeneously dispersed into the polymeric matrix but no close interaction occurs between the two components. In fact, no appreciable mechanical or thermal improvement was observed.
