Imidazol(in)ium carboxylates as N-heterocyclic carbene ligand precursors for Suzuki-Miyaura reactions

Simple catalysts formed in situ from palladium acetate and a variety of imidazolium and imidazolinium carboxylates and dithiocarboxylates have been screened in the coupling of aryl halides with trans-2-phenylvinylboronic acid. Imidazol(in)ium carboxylates show an excellent activity, which compares to that displayed by the parent imidazol(in)ium chlorides, whereas imidazol(in)ium dithiocarboxylates are poorly efficient. Interestingly, the base employed exerts a profound influence on the trans/cis stereochemistry of the coupling product.     

VUV-UV excited luminescent properties of LnCa4O(BO3)3:RE (Ln=Y, La, Gd; Re=Eu, Tb, Dy, Ce)

Calcium lanthanide oxyborate doped with rare-earth ions LnCa₄O(BO₃)₃:RE³⁺ (LnCOB:RE, Ln=Y, La, Gd, RE=Eu, Tb, Dy, Ce) was synthesized by the method of solid-state reaction at high temperature. Their fluorescent spectra were measured from vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) to visible region at room temperature. Their excitation spectra all have a broadband center at about 188 nm, which is ascribed to host absorption. Using Dorenbos’ and Jφrgensen's work [P. Dorenbos, J. Lumin. 91 (2000) 91, R. Resfeld, C.K. Jφrgensen, Lasers and Excite States of Rare Earth [M], Springer, Berlin, 1977, p. 45], the position of the lowest 5d levels E(Ln,A) and charge transfer band E_ct were calculated and compared with their excitation spectra.Eu³⁺ and Tb³⁺ ions doped into LnCOB show efficient luminescence under VUV and UV irradiation. In this system, Ce³⁺ ions do not show efficient luminescence and quench the luminescence of Tb³⁺ ions when Tb³⁺ and Ce³⁺ ions are co-doped into LnCOB. GdCOB doped with Dy³⁺ shows yellowish white light under irradiation of 254 nm light for the reason that Gd³⁺ ions transfer the energy from itself to Dy³⁺. Because of the existence of Gd³⁺, the samples of GdCOB:RE³⁺ show higher excitation efficiency than LaCOB:RE³⁺ and YCOB:RE³⁺, around 188 nm, which indicates that the Gd³⁺ ions have an effect on the host absorption and can transfer the excitation energy to the luminescent center such as Tb³⁺, Dy³⁺ and Eu³⁺.     

Controlled structure and density of “living” polystyrene brushes on flat silica surfaces

Thin layers of polystyrene were grown from surface-grafted nitroxide initiators via controlled “living” free radical polymerization. The “reactive” Langmuir-Blodgett deposition method allowed an effective control of the initiator layer density leading to PS brushes with different and high grafting density and stretching. The influence of the grafting density on the layer structure was studied. Comparison with theoretical predictions for monodispersed brushes in bad solvent was discussed. The thickness was found to vary linearly with molecular weight and the density dependence was shown using wetting measurements. Special features of controlled radical nitroxide polymerization from a surface were discussed. A direct comparison of the molecular weight and polydispersity between surface and bulk polymers was made by de-grafting the brushes into a toluene/HF solution. Finally, some evidence of a “surface Fischer” effect was shown from re-initiated layers. Received 20 December 2001     

Vancomycin Analogues Containing Monosaccharides Exhibit Improved Antibiotic Activity: A Combined One‐Pot Enzymatic Glycosylation and Chemical Diversification Strategy

Many natural products contain carbohydrate moieties that contribute to their biological activity. Manipulation of the carbohydrate domain of natural products through multiple glycosylations to identify new derivatives with novel biological activities has been a difficult and impractical process. We report a practical one‐pot enzymatic approach with regeneration of cosubstrates to synthesize analogues of vancomycin that contain an N‐alkyl glucosamine, which exhibited marked improvement in antibiotic activity against a vancomycin‐resistant strain of Enterococcus.     

光电光谱法分析钢中钙

本文研究了用光电光谱法测定钢中钙的方法 ,确定了最佳分析条件 ,分析了共存元素的干扰情况。用本方法测定钢中钙 ,具有良好的准确度和精密度 ,结果令人满意。     

Preparation of silane-grafted pellets: silica bound reagents in a very convenient form

High surface area silica pellets are excellent supports for the preparation of silica supported reagents and solid-phase basal linkers through reaction with (RO)₃Si(CH₂)₃FG (FG=NH₂, NHMe, Cl, NHC(O)NH₂, OC(O)CMe(CH₂), NCO, NEt₂). High loadings (0.66-2.15 mmol g⁻¹) of grafted silane materials are realised at synthetically useful loadings per pellet (ca. 0.06 mmol). Preliminary trials show that trial linker chemistry and ligand synthesis can be carried out on these materials and that these reactions can be monitored by solid state ¹³C NMR studies on individual pellets.

An efficient phosphine-free palladium coupling for the synthesis of new 2-arylbenzo[b]thiophenes

Straightforward and rapid access to 2-arylbenzo[b]thiophenes has been developed. It involved a catalytic coupling of 3-activated benzo[b]thiophenes with several aryl halides in the presence of a phosphine-free palladium system. In case of fragile functional groups such as aldehydes, a quaternary ammonium was used as an additive as with the other substrates, the coupling performed better and faster in the presence of a crown ether, the best one being DCH-18-C-6, with good yields and low reaction times. This method would provide a direct access to novel structures of biological interest.
