On the exceptional set in Goldbach’s problem in short intervals

Let 1/5 < θ ≤ 1. We prove that there exists a positive constant δ such that the number of even integers in the interval [X, X + X ^θ] which are not a sum of two primes is 《 X ^θ−δ. The proof uses the circle method, a sieve method, exponential sum estimates and zero-density estimates for L-functions. Current address: Department of Mathematics, 20014 University of Turku, Finland. Principal eigenvalues and the Dirichlet problem for fully nonlinear elliptic operators

We study uniformly elliptic fully nonlinear equations of the type F(D²u,Du,u,x)=f(x). We show that convex positively 1-homogeneous operators possess two principal eigenvalues and eigenfunctions, and study these objects; we obtain existence and uniqueness results for nonproper operators whose principal eigenvalues (in some cases, only one of them) are positive; finally, we obtain an existence result for nonproper Isaac's equations.     

Generating functions of multi-symplectic RK methods via DW Hamilton–Jacobi equations

The De Donder–Weyl (DW) Hamilton–Jacobi equation is investigated in this paper, and the connection between the DW Hamilton–Jacobi equation and multi-symplectic Hamiltonian system is established. Based on the DW Hamilton–Jacobi theory, generating functions for multi-symplectic Runge–Kutta (RK) methods and partitioned Runge–Kutta (PRK) methods are presented. Ideals of varieties parameterized by certain symmetric tensors

The ideal of a Segre variety P^n₁×?×P^n_t?P^{(n₁+1)?(n_t+1)−1} is generated by the 2-minors of a generic hypermatrix of indeterminates (see [H.T. Hà, Box-shaped matrices and the defining ideal of certain blowup surface, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 167 (2-3) (2002) 203-224. MR1874542 (2002h:13020)] and [R. Grone, Decomposable tensors as a quadratic variety, Proc. Amer. Math. 43 (2) (1977) 227-230. MR0472853 (57 #12542)]). We extend this result to the case of Segre-Veronese varieties. The main tool is the concept of “weak generic hypermatrix” which allows us to treat also the case of projection of Veronese surfaces from a set of general points and of Veronese varieties from a Cohen-Macaulay subvariety of codimension 2.

非线性互补问题的一种全局收敛的显式光滑Newton方法

本针对Po函数非线性互补问题，给出了一种显式光滑Newton方法，该方法将光滑参数μ进行显式迭代而不依赖于Newton方向的搜索过程，并在适当的假设条件下，证明了算法的全局收敛性。     

Large set of P3‐decompositions

Let G=(V(G),E(G)) be a graph. A (n,G, λ)‐GD is a partition of the edges of λK_n into subgraphs (G‐blocks), each of which is isomorphic to G. The (n,G,λ)‐GD is named as graph design for G or G‐decomposition. The large set of (n,G,λ)‐GD is denoted by (n,G,λ)‐LGD. Existence and instability of spike layer solutions to singular perturbation problems

An abstract framework is given to establish the existence and compute the Morse index of spike layer solutions of singularly perturbed semilinear elliptic equations. A nonlinear Lyapunov-Schmidt scheme is used to reduce the problem to one on a normally hyperbolic manifold, and the related linearized problem is also analyzed using this reduction. As an application, we show the existence of a multi-peak spike layer solution with peaks on the boundary of the domain, and we also obtain precise estimates of the small eigenvalues of the operator obtained by linearizing at a spike layer solution.     

Rigidity of the scattering length spectrum

In this paper we consider properties of obstacles satisfying some non-degeneracy conditions that can be recovered from the scattering length spectrum (SLS). Clearly the latter tells us whether the obstacle K is trapping or non-trapping. If the set of trapped points is relatively small, then the SLS also determines the volume of the obstacle, the number of its connected components, and whether its boundary is convex everywhere or it has non-trivial concavities. Under the additional assumption that the curvature of the obstacle does not vanish of infinite order, it is proved that from the SLS one can recover certain information about the number of reflection points of any simply reflecting ray in the exterior of the obstacle. Finally, for some special classes of obstacles (e.g. star-shaped ones), it is shown that the SLS completely determines the obstacle.
