Isotopes of the water molecule (δ18O and δ2H) are a well-used tool for investigating groundwater origin and history (i.e. tracing the recharge conditions over time, processes occurring during infiltration of rainwater towards aquifers and those involved in the water-rock interaction, and mixing of different waters).This review covers several large European aquifers (Portugal, France, UK, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, and Poland), which were investigated in terms of their recharge conditions, and the story of the groundwater at a large scale, involving recent, Holocene and Pleistocene components and their eventual mixing.  相似文献

In order to ascertain water quality for human consumption, the evaluation of trace and ultra-trace elements in drinking waters of two Italian cities, Rome and Florence, is investigated together with the potabilization processes involved and the relative human exposure to the contaminants. Through a multi-elemental detection with no chemical treatment using Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis and Proton-Induced X-ray Emission the concentration of 40 elements is determined. Basically, the concentrations of the investigated parameters in drinking waters were within the permissible limits of the World Health Organization drinking water quality guidelines and the Water Pollution Control legislation of Italian authorities. The Rome drinking water shows a chemical water composition quite similar to uncontaminated natural water: potentially toxic elements (e.g., Cr, Hg, Ni, and Sb) are present at very low concentrations whereas the levels of nutritionally essential elements are adequate and low levels of I and Se cannot be considered a cause of deficiency diseases. A multivariate statistical approach was used to identify both the origins and correlations among elements and the six different apportionments contributing to the water supply in Rome. For the drinking waters distributed in Florence, the element levels show a sufficiently good situation, except for Al (range 103–267 μg/L) that is present at reasonable concentrations for almost the entire population due to the hard potabilization procedure involving aluminum salts. The values of Metal Index (MI), that helps to quickly evaluate the overall quality of drinking waters, show a good drinking water quality in Rome (Fe is the only element to be considered critical) whereas in Florence the situation is influenced by Al levels. No relevant differences are found among Rome and Florence water composition and other Italian and world potable waters.This study can be considered a useful reference for studies aimed to highlighting toxicological, nutritional and environmental disease patterns.  相似文献

In this work, the new polyamine bisnaphthalimidopropyl‐4,4’‐diaminodiphenylmethane is proposed as a new ionophore for perchlorate potentiometric sensors. The optimal formulation for the membrane comprised of 12 mmol kg?1 of the ionophore, and 68 % (w/w) of 2‐nitrophenyl phenyl ether as plasticizer and 31 % (w/w) of high molecular weight PVC. The sensors were soaked in water for a week to allow leakage of anionic impurities and for one day in a perchlorate solution (10?4 mol L?1) to improve reproducibility due to its first usage. The stability constant for the ionophore‐perchlorate association in the membrane, log βIL1=3.18±0.04, ensured a performance characterized by the slope of 54.1 (±0.7) mV dec?1 to perchlorate solutions with concentrations between 1.24×10?7 and 1.00×10?3 mol L?1. The sensors are insensitive to pH between 3.5 to 11.0, they have a practical detection limit of 7.66 (±0.42) ×10?8 mol L?1 and a response time below 60 s for solutions with perchlorate concentrations above 5×10?6 mol L?1. The accuracy of the results was confirmed by the analysis of the contaminant in a certified reference water sample.  相似文献

UV filters, contained in sunscreens and other cosmetic products, as well as in some plastics and industrial products, are nowadays considered contaminants of emerging concern because their widespread and increasing use has lead to their presence in the environment. Furthermore, some UV filters are suspected to have endocrine disruption activity. In the present work, we developed an analytical method based on liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry for the determination of UV filters in tap and lake waters. Sixteen UV filters were extracted from water samples by solid‐phase extraction employing graphitized carbon black as adsorbent material. Handling 200 mL of water sample, satisfactory recoveries were obtained for almost all the analytes. The limits of detection and quantification of the method were comparable to those reported in other works, and ranged between 0.7–3.5 and 1.9–11.8 ng/L, respectively; however in our case the number of investigated compounds was larger. The major encountered problem in method development was to identify the background contamination sources and reduce their contribution. UV filters were not detected in tap water samples, whereas the analyses conducted on samples collected from three different lakes showed that the swimming areas are most subject to UV filter contamination.  相似文献

A solid phase extraction technique for the determination of platinum(IV) at trace levels by inductively coupled plasma mass spectromA solid phase extraction technique for the determination of platinum(IV) at trace levels by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was developed. The method was based on retention of platinum in a sample on silica gel modified with aminepropyl groups. The retention of platinum(IV) from the sample solution and the recovery of platinum with 1.0 mol L−1 thiourea solution were quantitative. The relative standard deviation (RSD) was calculated as 5% (n = 7) at the 10 ng L−1 level. The enrichment factor was found to be (50-fold) for 250 mL of water sample. Under optimum conditions, the method detection limit (MDL) was found to be 1 ng L−1 for platinum in water matrices. Recoveries of Pt from spike addition to atmospheric water samples were quantitative (80–95%). The present method was used for the determination of platinum in precipitation, throughfall and runoff water samples.   相似文献

Abstract

The performance of a flow-through mercury coated reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC) electrode in the potentiometric stripping analysis (PSA) of trace metals has been examined. A wall-jet glassy carbon cell was used for the comparative experiments. Experimental parameters influencing the stripping signals have been optimised in order to use the stripping analysis after the preconcentration and matrix isolation by supported liquid membrane (SLM) technique. The SLM with di-2-ethylhexyl-phosphoric acid (DEHPA) as the extractant in the membrane liquid for proton driven transport of trace metals across the membrane has been chosen. Results presented for lead determination in river water demonstrate the analytical advantages of coupled technique SLM-PSA.  相似文献

The adsorption capacities of commercial and Brazilian natural clays were evaluated to test their applications in wastewater control. We investigated the process of sorption of manganese(II) and cadmium(II) present in synthetic aqueous effluents, by calculating the adsorption isotherms at 298 K using batch experiments. The influence of temperature and pH on the adsorption process was also studied. Adsorption of metals was best described by a Langmuir isotherm, with values of Q 0 parameter, which is related to the sorption capacity, corresponding to 6.3 mg g− 1 for K-10/Cd(II), 4.8 mg g− 1 for K-10/Mn(II), 11.2 mg g− 1 for NT-25/Cd(II) and 6.0 mg g− 1 for NT-25/Mn(II). We observed two distinct adsorption mechanisms that may influence adsorption. At the first 5 min of interaction, a cation exchange mechanism that takes place at exchange sites located on (001) basal planes is predominant. This process is inhibited by low pH values. After this first and fast step, a second sorption mechanism can be related to formation of inner-sphere surface complexes, which is formed at edges of the clay. The rate constants and the initial sorption rates correlate positively with temperature in all studied systems, denoting the predominance of a physisorption process. The addition of complexing agents that are incorporated within the K10 structure, enhance metal uptake by the adsorbent. The results have shown that both Cd(II) and Mn(II) were totally retained from a 50 mg L− 1 solution when K10 grafted with ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC) was used as adsorbent.  相似文献

Kinetic speciation of uranium in model solutions containing uranium and humic acid (HA) and in natural waters has been investigated by Competitive Ligand Exchange Method (CLEM). In alkaline freshwaters, most of uranium species were uranium-carbonate species, which were labile in the CLEM experiment. The uranium speciation of every sample was characterized either as “labile” or “non-labile” uranium complexes depending on the dissociation rate coefficients of the complexes. The results showed that as the U(VI)/HA ratio was decreased, the dissociation rate coefficients decreased and the labile fraction decreased as well. When the U(VI)/HA ratio was 0.1, the labile fraction of the U(VI)-HA increased with increasing pH; however, there was no pH effect on the dissociation of U(VI)-HA complexes at lower U(VI)/HA ratios. Chelex-100 had some limitations in its use for the study of dissociation of U(VI)-HA complex at very low U(VI)/HA ratios. By developing an analytical method and procedure for quantitative determination of kinetic parameters for the dissociation of uranium-HA complexes in model solutions and natural waters, this work has made a substantial contribution to analytical chemistry.  相似文献

An investigation on filtration procedures and SPE sorbents used for the determination of traces of the most common veterinary fluoroquinolones (FQs), marbofloxacin (MAR) and enrofloxacin (ENR) used as antibacterial agents in cattle and swine farms in the province of Pavia (Italy), was performed in natural waters. The filter composition and the sorbent used in the SPE strongly influence the correct recovery, both in terms of total and dissolved FQs concentration. An accurate comparison among different filters and SPE sorbents showed that a full determination of analytes was possible on nylon filters followed by anionic (WAX) and hydrophilic–lipophilic balance (HLB) resins as SPE. Quantitative analysis was done by chromatography with fluorescence detection (HPLC‐FD). Fluoroquinolones recovery was between 90 and 116% with RSD not greater than 10% (sample volume 250 mL). The developed method allowed to determine both dissolved and NOM‐absorbed fractions of FQs, therefore a full determination of the analytes was possible. Limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were, respectively, 0.7 and 2.2 ng/L for ENR and 2 and 6 ng/L for MAR. The kinetics of degradation under solar light was explored.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to study the effects of the following Ligands: Chelex-100, Dowex MAC-3 and Dowex 50WX-8 using Competing Ligand Exchange Method. This objective was achieved by investigating complex dissociation kinetics of trace metals: Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Mn(II) and Pb(II) of a well-characterized Laurentian Fulvic Acid (LFA) in model solutions and in a natural waters of Lake Heva (Québec, Canada). The effects of variation in the competing ligands (including their quantities) on the complex dissociation kinetics were quantitatively characterized by their first-order dissociation rate coefficients. The kinetic lability of the metal complexes varied with the metal-to-LFA ratio, as expected from the theory of metal complexes of the chemically and physically heterogeneous complexants, LFA. The general trend in the metal-binding by the above competing ligands was: Dowex 50WX-8 > Chelex-100 > Dowex MAC-3. However, no difference was found between the Dowex 50WX-8 and Chelex-100 for Cd(II), Zn(II), and Co(II). The results revealed the importance of the quantity of Chelex-100 as a competing ligand in the metal(II)-LFA complexation, on the dissociation kinetics of these complexes in model solutions. By developing Competing Ligand Exchange Method as an analytical technique, for studying the relative affinities of the above competing ligands for metals complexation in natural waters this work has made a substantial contribution to analytical chemistry.  相似文献
