Reaction between palladium(II) and gallium(III) halogenides in arenes: influence of halogen nature on the formation of binuclear palladium(I) clusters

Palladium(II) bromide reacts with gallium(III) bromide in the presence of arenes yielding binuclear palladium(I) complexes [Pd₂(GaBr₄)₂(arene)₂], where arene=benzene (1), toluene (2) and p-xylene (3). Reaction of palladium(II) chloride with gallium(III) chloride in p-xylene leads to the analogous palladium(I) compound [Pd₂(GaCl₄)₂(p-xylene)₂] (4); the X-ray structures of 1-4 were determined.     

Structural difference between a superconducting sodium cobalt oxide and its related phase

Monolayer hydrate (MLH) Na_xCoO₂·y′H₂O was obtained from superconducting bilayer hydrate (BLH) Na_xCoO₂·yH₂O by partial extraction of H₂O molecules between the CoO₂ layers. Magnetization measurements indicated that electron densities in the CoO₂ layer of the MLH phase remained unchanged after the water extraction. Nevertheless, superconductivity was completely suppressed in the MLH phase. This strongly suggests that the highly 2D nature in the BLH phase due to its thick insulating layers consisting of H₂O molecules and Na⁺ ions plays an important role for inducing superconductivity.     

Synthesis of cationic complexes [(C<Subscript>4</Subscript>Me<Subscript>4</Subscript>)CoL]<Superscript>+</Superscript> (L is naphthalene,phenanthrene, and anthracene)

Cationic arene complexes [Cb*Co(naphthalene)]⁺ (2, Cb* = C₄Me₄) and [Cb*Co(phenanthrene)]⁺ were synthesized by the reactions of [Cb*Co(MeCN)₃]⁺ with arenes. The [Cb*Co(anthracene)]⁺ complex was synthesized by the abstraction of the iodide ion from [Cb*CoI]₂ by TIBF₄ in the presence of anthracene. Complex 2 exchanges the naphthalene ligand for other arenes at room temperature. Dedicated to Academician G. A. Abakumov on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Highly Regioselective Sequential 1,1‐Dihydrosilylation of Terminal Aliphatic Alkynes with Primary Silanes

A regioselective double 1,1‐hydrosilylation of terminal aliphatic alkynes with primary silanes catalyzed by one cobalt catalyst has been developed. gem‐Bis(dihydrosilyl)alkanes containing four silicon‐hydrogen bonds are efficiently constructed in an atom‐economical manner. Tolerated substrates include simplest alkyne‐ethyne, a complicated drug derivative and various functionalized terminal aliphatic alkynes. Asymmetric approach using two catalysts is achieved with excellent enantioselectivities to access corresponding chiral products. The transformations of Si—H bonds into Si—C, Si—O, and Si—F bonds and the synthesis of enantioriched α‐hydroxysilane show synthetic utility.     

Two-Dimensional Supramolecular from the Self-Assembly of Dissymmetrical Oxamidato-Bridged Heterometallic Trinuclear Building Blocks: Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Magnetic Properties

Two heterometallic trinuclear complexes {[Cu(oxbp)]₂Co(H₂O)₂}1.5DMF0.5H₂O (complex 1) and {[Cu(oxbm)]₂Co(H₂O)₂}2DMF (complex 2) were obtained from the self-organization of two new dissymmetrical oxamidato-bridged copper(II) building blocks [Cu(oxbp)]^– and [Cu(oxbm)]^–[H₃oxbp=N-benzoato-N'-(3-aminopropyl)oxamido, H₃oxbm=N-benzoato-N'-(2-amino-2-methylethyl)oxamido, DMF=dimethylformamide]. The crystal structure of complex 1 has been determined. Complex 1 crystallize in triclinic system, space group P-1, a=8.0609(16) Å, b=10.661(2) Å, c=22.279(5) Å, =85.32(3), =86.64(3), =70.90(3), and Z=1. The crystal structure of complex 1 consists of neutral trinuclear complex units, and hydrogen bond involved DMF and water molecules. Through the hydrogen bonds, weak coordination and CuCu weak interactions, complex 1 features a 2-D supramolecular structure. Magnetic susceptibility measurements (5–100 K) indicate that the central Co(II) and terminal copper metal ions are antiferromagnetically coupled with J=–28.09 and J=–29.70 cm^–1 for complex 1 and 2, respectively.     

Molecular recognition and host-guest interactions in complexes of O-bistren,C-bistren,and bisdien

The host-guest relationships of the complexes of the cryptand ligands O-BISTREN and C-BISTREN, and of the analogous macrocyclic ligand BISDIEN are compared. The affinities of their binuclear copper(II) complexes for the bridging ligands (OH^–, F^–) as cascade type guests (i.e., guests of guests) are reported. The ability of the dicobalt(II)-BISDIEN complex to coordinate dioxygen and an additional bifunctional guest simultaneously, leads to the possibility of a new type of catalysis occurring within the cavity of a macrocyclic complex.     

Syntheses and Crystal Structures of Some CCo3 Clusters Containing PPh3 or dppm Ligands

Molecular structural determinations are reported for six Co₃C carbonyl cluster complexes containing tertiary phosphines, which have been isolated as by-products from a variety of reactions. Structural features are similar to those of related complexes already reported. Some discussion of apparent orientational preferences of the CH₂ group of dppm ligands, which appear to enter into H-bonding interactions with amido or carboxylate substituents, is given. Appropriate comparisons are made with unsubstituted analogues.

Direct spectrophotometric method for the determination of cobalt with indane 1,2,3-trionetrioxime in aqueous medium

A simple, sensitive and selective Spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of cobalt using indane 1,2,3-trionetrioxime (ITT): The method is based on the colour reaction between ITT and cobalt(II) in sodium acetate-acetic acid buffer (pH 4.5–7.5) medium. The calibration graph for measurement at 320 nm is linear in the range 1.18–23.60g of cobalt per 25 ml, with molar absorptivity of 5.32×10⁴1mol^–1 cm^–1. The effect of interfering ions has been studied and the method was applied to the determination of cobalt in alloys, with good results.
